The Last Blow Page 16

  - You know, I would take you to dinner, but the smell of that pancake is wonderful!

She looked up at him and the easy smile reached them.

  - I have my talents, Sir. Blackcastle ...

  - Urgh! He made a disgusted sound and started walking over to her. - You can call me that when I'm inside you, because I'll be too upset to care, other than that don't give me this "Sir.", No more!

Gisele burst out laughing at the same time the Baron reached her, giving her a kiss on the back of the neck, which made her shiver.

  - You are a Baron, I am being respectful.

  - Is it the same woman who threw whiskey in my face? - He looked at her amused.

  - Precisely, but now I'm a little dazzled ...

She commented pointing to his bare chest, as he wore only the pants he had arrived with earlier, and it was absolutely spectacular.

  - Now, if I were shirtless, would you have been more friendly?

  - Maybe ... You'll never know! The Baron smiled at the provocation. - Now stop distracting me before I burn everything I'm doing ...

  - Can I help you? - His look said he had no idea how.

  - Set the table, I don't want to risk a fire.

  - It flatters me dear. - He said sarcastically.

  - I let you find a wine too, I bet you know how to do it!

James laughed looking in the kitchen for the pieces to set the table, he had never actually done that, the most he came close to when he tried to make tea and burned himself, Pottes has since forbidden him to dare to do any housework.

  - Actually, I'm very good at it, my uncle was a wine buff and made me learn everything, like a child who learns multiplication tables.

  - How was your childhood?

She took the opportunity to ask, seeing that James was once again accessible. He shrugged, turning to put the dishes, they were the wrong ones for that meal, but he let it go.

  - Privileged ... - The answer was evasive, she realized.

  - Is it a prohibited topic? James looked at her impassively, then gave a short smile.

  - No, just no details, my parents died, my uncle took care of me and gave me everything the money could buy, he also gave me affection and he was a good man as far as possible, I had no trauma, I was happy, really really privileged ... End of story.

James did not have a beautiful story to tell, his childhood was good, his adolescence not so much and then his whole life turned into that big pool of blood that he started to hide. He didn't want to talk about his past, or even about the future, only the present mattered and after all it was finite, and Gisele wouldn't be part of his world and that was a blessing, because he had already hurt someone, he didn't want to repeat again the same error.

  - You did an edited summary, but that's okay, I suppose knowing you is not part of our agreement, is it?

Those green eyes had the power to make James feel exposed, he sighed, but kept looking at Gisele's resigned face.

  - Affection, I have nothing good to offer, so it will always be better for you to listen to my edited stories.

  - It's a great way to say you'll lie ... - Her smile was weak.

  - Please, let's not fight, will we?

No, they weren't going, Gisele just made her "offended girl" point so she could divert the Baron's attention.

  - No ... - She paused rehearsed. - Better change the subject, I almost forgot, could you sign the paper requesting the mail? It seems that here it needs to be signed by the owner of the house and the resident ...

  - Didn't Bartor take care of that? He frowned and she shrugged.

  - I don't think so, because I went to ask to deliver books from New York and I had this problem.

  - Where are the papers?

  - On the living room table on this floor ...

  - I'll sign! - James said. - And I go to the cellar and bring our wine, do you want it strong or soft?

  - Smooth ... - Gisele replied with an innocent air.

The Baron left the kitchen, only then did a satisfied smile form on the woman's lips, the papers he was going to sign were manipulated, his original signature would go on a contract and not on a simple request for a mailing address, which would give the Gisele owns that mansion.

Paths do not cross by coincidence, every meeting has a purpose; That was what Lowe believed, so with each passing day his obsession with finding the woman who struck him only increased, and not for a second did his thirst for revenge stand out from the desire to have her for himself. She stole it, but deep down, the feeling that she belonged and ran away was much stronger than anything else.

  - Mr. Carter?

A knock on his office door took him out of the depths of those thoughts that involved Gisele.

  - In between!

His security guard found him carrying a black folder that he held out as soon as he reached it.

  - Detective Magnus asked to deliver it to you.

Lowe took the folder from the man's hand and dismissed him with a hard look, sat on the nearby sofa opening the folder, there were notes of schedules, as well as the name of a hotel, with photos of the place, as well as the car that he had given it to Gisele, at the end they had a note at hand.

“We tracked his car and his location, it seems that the scammer sold it, we are collecting information, but apparently, she stayed at this hotel and left a few days ago, because she met a man named James Watts, Baron of Blackcastle, my bet is that it will be your next target, there is a photo of it attached! ”

The pages in Lowe's hand were completely wrinkled in demonstration, he found the photo that suffered the same fate, while the man stood up violently, throwing his chair against the nearest wall. Gisele was his, regardless of whether he had dealt a blow or not, that woman would be his and now more than ever he had to find her, even if he had to pass over a London Baron. He was going to end the circus she was setting up, no matter what.

James slept with her, it was the second time, smiled looking at the sleeping woman beside him. Angels seemed overrated near her. He rested his head on one hand and used the other to trace the delicate jaw of the ravishing creature, which moved but did not wake up, a smile passed over his face until he heard his cell phone vibrate.

  - Hell!

He muttered, then carefully got out of bed, picking up the device and going to her closet, carefully pulled the door shut, to answer the damn call.

  - What is it, Jack?

  - We have a problem! - Said the man on the other end of the line.

Gisele woke up with the movement of the Baron getting out of bed, in fact she was already waking up before that, so she realized that he went out to answer a call and cannot help himself, got up quickly in silence, going to the closet door and putting the heard there.

  - What a problem, forward this! James whispered to his partner.

  - The loading team was all shot down last night and there was nothing left of us ...

The Baron wanted to be able to break something and shout at someone, but he was not going to do it, because he controlled himself. Gisele slept outside and nothing she did now to explode would only give her more trouble to explain later.

  - Prepare a team and meet me there in half an hour!

Without another word he hung up and then opened the closet door quickly, and Gisele was still in the same place, sleeping, he looked at her and decided it was best to leave as soon as possible, there was no explanation there at the moment. James walked around the room collecting his things and went out to get dressed. It took about fifteen minutes for Gisele to make sure she was alone, only then did she open her eyes, staring at the ceiling, thinking about the Baron's headless conversation, she had almost been caught, it was close, and she didn't even know if it had been valid, because she was more intrigued than enlightened.

Five SUVs arrived at a shed on the city docks. James got out of his car, wearing glasses, but without being concerned with the men there whether
or not they paid attention to what he was, and he had no reason, Jack always chose the ones he trusted for tasks in which he would have his presence.

  - Someone told us about our operation!

Jack said quietly as he approached as he walked into the damn shed that was soon going to have to be cleaned up or attracted attention, then it would be a decoy for the police.

  - For sure ... - He said without humor. - Has anyone cast for this team been missing?

  - No, they're all there ...

Jack nodded when they entered the room lit up and filled with shotgun bodies, they were men lying on the concrete floor stained with their blood. James took off his glasses, looking up and seeing the snipers on the hanged stairs, whoever had done that had time.

  - The cameras?

  - Fries!

The Baron entered the space more, that team had twenty men and none were alive, which made him think that they would have suffered an attack with a much larger number of men, also much better prepared.

  - I want you to remove the bullets from some of the bodies and send them to ballistics ...

  - Do you think we're going to find anything at all? - Jack said in an unhappy and frustrated tone. - Damn, whoever did this was a professional, he won't leave traces on the bullets ...

  - Do you have a better idea? James turned to him. - Because so far I've only seen you scowling and saying no shit!

  - My men are fucking here, wish I was happy? They are not replaceable toys as everything is for you.

James turned his face away, he didn't care who died, in that business there could be no mercy, much less compassion, he had learned it with great difficulty and knew that some things really could not be replaced, however, there was nothing else in his life that had any value at all, that way it was much easier to deal with the slaughter he faced or any other shit that that dirty world would come to play in his face.

  - I don't have time for sentimentality, neither do you, we have to clean up this mess and find a way to know who got the better of us!

He saw his partner take a deep breath and nods in agreement.

  - The cleaning will start as soon as you leave ...

  - Have you seen works by Italians, can this be their thing in retaliation?

  - I would have more blood and leave someone half alive to give us a message, they love to intimidate, as well as to be recognized for the killings they do ... I don't think it was Italian service.

If it hadn’t been the Italians, that could only mean a big problem, because a robbery wouldn’t be, after all he had already made his fame and robberies didn’t happen in his areas, which led him to the next point, which not only stole , and how they also killed everyone and didn't even leave a message. Whoever did this wanted to hit him and bewildered him in the process.

  - We will operate in red code, I need you to redouble the security teams in our stock bases, talk to the people in America and see how we are with the shipment there, we will not be late, regardless of this shit.

  - Your security will be reinforced too, in fact, if you leave the country for a few days it would be interesting ... - Jack looked away. - I'll do my research the old way!

James knew what that meant and he had no problem, sometimes things had to be done in an old way to get results.

  - I'll think about it, now be careful, take the best ones with you.

  - Don't worry, the son of a bitch who did this will regret it.

  - Of course it will!

The Baron's icy smile did not reflect the savagery he felt inside, but Jack knew as well as anyone who worked for him that James Watts did not make empty promises.

Victoria received Gisele with the team with total joy which made her almost believe she was really a restorer, however, her cynical part laughed at that sitting on a sun lounger with sunglasses. On that first day, they would only evaluate the material that would go through the first restorations, which were the simplest, without high complexity. Several times she found herself badly listening to what they said because she was mentally calculating how much she would earn from each piece of it selling to some of her contacts on the black market, in the guesswork, she supposed a small fortune she would give for a few years, but ruling.

  - Well folks, let's go to the collection itself, shall we? - Victoria said.

She had already presented our workstations, each one would have a room on the twenty-eighth floor, the collection was on the twenty-ninth, where she took us and we saw a wide range of paintings, vases, sculptures. Ryan really had excellent taste and obviously a lot of money to pay for it all, which in this case would triple the value in his auction, that would be historic.

  - That session that is separate is the one we saw in the room and let's start!

Victoria explained to that team of eight people, three men and five women, from whom she learned the name, but did not lend herself to wanting a bond, because at that moment they had no importance in what Gisele planned, so when they were released and she was invited to go for a drink, she gave a polite smile next to her best friendly face saying that she couldn't go because she already had an appointment, and she really did. As she left Mr. Codes' company, she went to the adjacent street where Benett was waiting for her in his beautiful car that she couldn't be using.

  - So my muse, how was your first day? - He asked.

  - Boring! - Gisele said closing the car door and he started.

  - Too bad, mine was great, using that card!

She punched him in the arm, pouting when looking at his “little gift” being used by another.

  - I will think of a way to explain this car to the Baron and I will start using it, you can be sure!

  - Speaking of which, how did you get rid of your driver to find me?

  - Easy ... - She smiled devilishly. - I sent him to a post office on the other side of the city to pick up a box that I sent from New York, which obviously also served as an alibi for that here ...

She took the deed from the mansion from which she lived and which was now hers, also from Benett, but she felt as if it were mainly hers, after all she was living in the place and did all the dirty work to get the original signature of the Baron who would now go serve her for many other things, as well as his fingerprints that were left in the special pen she left for the man to sign the papers.

  - Holy shit, have you done it? - Benett was amazed.

  - Never doubt me dear ... It was easy, the Baron was distracted and very happy, if you know what I mean!

The man gave him a dirty look and burst out laughing. Gisele turned her face, smiling too, pleased with herself, then for a moment her eyes went to the rearview mirror and she saw a motorcycle. Benett doubled and the bike did the same, she frowned.

  - Benett, do you see a motorcycle in the mirror? - She inquired suspiciously.

  - I just saw ...

  - Slow down! - Commanded, totally serious, he obeyed and saw the bike slow down too. - Speed up again!

As she imagined the bike accelerated, Benett put his foot on the accelerator, but the mysterious biker did not get out of the way, so she soon had no doubts that they were being followed.

  - They are after us ... - His partner said giving voice to his thoughts.

  - Yes, holy shit. We have to lose it!

  - Do you think it could be someone from the Baron? - He said accelerating.

  - Fuck, I don't know. - She looked back. - But who else could it be?

None of them had the answer, so Benett started a sequence of overtaking, running like crazy, walking away from the shopping center, looking for more deserted roads. Gisele held on, putting on her belt, looking back at all times.

  - I put a gun in the glove compartment, get it!

  - What? - She stared at him without hiding her surprise.

  - Put your philosophy aside, we have to erase this guy.

Gisele bit the inside of her cheek when she heard him say "his philosophy", it got on his nerves, because it wasn't just that. She didn
't like to take anyone's life, she had her own ethical code even with her morals so distorted by the standards of today's society.

  - What if it's someone from James?

"You can't take the message ..." Benett made a sharp turn. - In the next corner you will have the perfect angle Gisele, so hurry up, do as we learned!

She took a deep breath, released her belt, moving quickly and picking up the gun, a Glock accompanied by a silencer. Gisele cocked it, then started to lower the car window, looked at Benett at the last moment.

  - Slow down when I say! - He gave a positive nod.

  - Just send ...

With a movement she moved, preparing to climb, when she saw the curve approaching she lifted her body to the window.

  - Now!

Then he screamed in the next minute he was feeling the braking, so he pulled the trigger towards the biker, the shots had a clear range and Gisele missed the first two, but the third hit the nail on the head, and she didn't stop until she saw him collapse with bike and everything on the ground.

  - Did you get it right? - Benett shouted accelerating back.

  - Yes, go, go!

He sped back, there were few cars on the track, but it was enough to get attention. Benett smiled at the wheel as Gisele swallowed and tried to manage the adrenaline in her body.

  - He could be wearing a vest ...

  - Don't worry, I'll be back to finish the job!

Gisele looked at Benett, turning around and heading back to where they had just fled from.

  - Gone mad? - She stared at him, incredulous.

  - It has to be done, we can't take the risk.

Knowing that she would not be heard Gisele let him do what he wanted, if he gave shit, she was already thinking of a way to escape from London as soon as possible, it was not the first time she had to disappear and it would not be the last. They arrived a safe distance from the place and saw the crowd of people, it was too late.

  - We're fucked! - Gisele said.

  - Yes, but only if he is not dead ...

The two looked at each other communicating silently.
