BORN IN VANCOUVER, SHAYNE MORROW holds a BFA and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. In 1994, he relocated to Port Alberni with plans of writing a novel, but as fate would have it, he landed a job as a reporter and photographer at the Alberni Valley Times. During his fifteen-year stint with the paper, Morrow developed a strong working relationship with Port Alberni RCMP, obtained high security clearance, and gained real-time access to investigators and lab scientists as the Carolyn Lee and Jessica States cases unfolded.

After retiring in late 2011, Morrow worked as a freelance contributor to Ha-Shilth-Sa (the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council news service), Windspeaker (Aboriginal Multi-Media Society), and for several years wrote public affairs articles for Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences. He is married, with one daughter, and still lives in Port Alberni.
