The Boundary Fence (A Woodlea Novel, #7) Page 30

by Alissa Callen

Ella gazed around the picture-perfect chapel. ‘This will be a hard surprise to ever beat.’

Cressy smiled. ‘It will be. The wedding really was going to be in the summer but Fliss said they couldn’t wait that long. She also wanted everything in place …’ Cressy again placed a hand on her stomach. ‘For when her very active godchild has a naming ceremony.’

  ‘That’s so Fliss.’

The soft strains of classical music filtered into the church and Cressy returned to the front. Ella laced her fingers with Saul’s before turning to see Edna and Noel take a seat a few chairs behind them. From the smugness of Edna’s smile at least one person had worked out why Hewitt had made more frequent visits to the hardware store than usual.

A hush sounded as Lizzie walked down the aisle, her expression serious and eyes sparkling as she tossed white rose petals. Quinn walked beside her, a small green-and-yellow toy tractor clasped in his hand.

Then Fliss appeared. Her coffee-brown hair hung in loose and soft waves with not a trace of Taylor’s trademark hairspray. An elegant, fitted strapless dress was matched with a waist-length veil. In her steady hands was a large bouquet of roses. Ella blew Fliss a kiss as she glided by. She’d never looked more stunning.

While Fliss took her place beside Hewitt, Saul turned to look at Ella, his brows raised in an unspoken question. Vision blurred, she nodded. Her plans for a return trip to England were still going ahead. Except it would be Saul, not Taylor, travelling with her and they’d be staying in honeymoon suites. They’d been talking about a small, intimate wedding and his unspoken question had been to ask if she too thought this chapel ticked all the boxes. She rested her head on his shoulder.

The freshly painted walls surrounding them wouldn’t just bear witness to today’s wedding and baby Rigby’s winter naming ceremony. This little country church, which had been given a second lease on life, would echo with a new generation of laughter and dreams. But most of all it would celebrate everything that made small town Woodlea a town not only of windmills and yarn-bombing, but of belonging and, most of all, love.
