But Nicolas didn’t flinch. “It doesn’t matter what you feel. You are still my soulmate.” he was calm, and so sure in what he was saying.
I had no more words. I took the mug of coffee and took a deep drink. Everything was fucked. I was fucked. This world was fucked. “So, tomorrow I go home?” I asked Nicolas over the mug. Home. I wasn’t sure where that was anymore, or what I was returning to.
“Yes,” Nicolas answered.
“Can’t we just kill her?” Elena’s words had the mug nearly tumbling from my fingers.
“No. It wouldn’t work. They are guarding the gates heavily now. The moment she steps through, they would take her. The only way now is to get her home and hide her.”
I took another deep gulp of coffee, feeling grateful that they couldn’t kill me. I wanted to die, then I wanted to live; they wanted to kill me, now I must be kept safe. My head was spinning.
Cathy was still stuck down here, and so was Daniel. Guilt gnawed at my stomach once again. Would I see Father Peter? Was he even alive? And what of my mother? Going back had too many ifs and buts, but staying here wasn’t something I wanted to do either. I took another deep gulp of my coffee. “What about my mother?” I asked. Nicolas had made a promise, and I hoped he would keep it.
“Elena is going to search for her.” I glanced at Elena. She nodded at me angrily, her resentment simmering. I didn’t blame her, but there was also nothing I could do about it, either.
“Thank you,” I found myself saying. Not just to Elena, but Nicolas and Cecelia too. I wasn’t fixed, but at least I knew how I was broken. My eyes met Nicolas’s.
“Are you okay?” he questioned.
“Yes.” I was okay right now.

Reviews are the most powerful tools in my arsenal when it comes to getting attention for my books. Much as I’d like to, I don’t have the financial muscle of a New York publisher.
(Not yet, anyway).
But I do have something much more powerful and effective than that, and it’s something that those publishers would kill to get their hands on.
A committed and loyal bunch of readers.
Honest reviews of my book help bring them to the attention of other readers.
So if you’ve enjoyed this book I would be very grateful if you could spend just five minutes leaving a review. (It can be as short as you like) on the book’s Amazon page.
Thank you very much!
