The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths & Magic Page 25

by F. T. Lukens

I can’t help but compare the way I felt riding that roller coaster as a kid with the way that Bridger experiences being a teenager—lots of stomach-swooping feelings and eager anticipation for what comes next.

So, in a way, I feel like the first person I need to thank for the existence of this book is whoever came up with the idea of having a Loch Ness themed rollercoaster in the middle of the historic triangle of Virginia. (I would like to point out that the first roller coaster I did ride at Busch Gardens was The Big Bad Wolf, which is another folk tale, and has since been removed from the park. That ride was accompanied by lots of howls and staff members who ominously invited you to ride “at the speed of fright.”)

I need to thank my husband, Keith, who grew up in a small town in Michigan, which inspired the setting of the book (though Midden is fictional), and assisted with details and vocabulary. I also have to thank Keith for all the hard work he puts in to our household and our three children that allows me the time to actually write books.

I’d like to thank my brother, Rob, who encourages me and buys several copies of my books to hand out to his friends. He’s pretty much my role model when it comes to adulting and gives great advice, most of the time. I’d also like to thank my niece, Lauren, for the use of her son’s name. Leo is based on my great-nephew, Leonidas. I wanted to create a character that Leo could see himself in when he grows up. Also, Leo is an amazing hero name.

I need to thank my writing buddy and best friend, Kristinn, who cheers me on and makes me stick to timelines and plans. Without Kristinn, there would be infinitely more typos and bad dialogue.

I’d also like to thank my IP friend gang – C.B. Lee, Rachel Davidson Leigh, and Carrie Pack. Hanging out with these awesome people at DragonCon last year was the highlight of my year.

I would also like to thank Anna Muse who assisted me with naming Bridger’s mentor, Pavel Chudinov.

And always thank you to my amazing friends from The W&M Sci-Fi and Fantasy Club.

Lastly, I must thank the wonderful team at Interlude Press for the support, patience, and opportunity to write this book.
