Selena Rose: Daughter of the Moon Page 14

Selena is walking away from Gabriel’s gravesite with Bath, Kya and Zethes wait for them at the car. They are the last of the attendees from the funeral. “It was a nice funeral Bath, I think he would have liked it.” Bath watches Kya giggling at something Zethes has said. “He would have liked it. He was usually very concerned with things revolving around him. His girlfriend seems very nice. I can’t imagine what she was thinking dating him. You should get to know her, I think the two of you would get on famously.” Selena looks at Bath, “Really?” She smiles, “Yes. For all his faults, he had excellent taste in women. She tried to give me all his things after they found the body. Seemed to think that we should have them. I told her she could keep them or trash them or give them away. I knew you and Kya would not be interested and I don’t need his things to see him,” she taps her head with a finger, “I can go back in time and see his happy moments. Right now, I want to be more of a part of little Kya’s life. We have missed so much being locked away. You expect to see us a lot more and if you need a sitter, you have but to call. I hope to spend more time with you as well. And your fantastic mother, I just love her! Maybe we can do some girls lunches?”

“I would love that so much.” They get to the car and Zethes looks around before helping Kya float gently to the ground from her perch atop the roof of the car. “Bath, now that you mention it, I do have a date coming up. If you are comfortable sitting with Kya while I go on a date?”

Bath steps into Zethes arms and turns to face Selena, “We would be happy to sit for that. Is it that nice Dwayne? He has always been such a sweet boy.”

“Yes, it is. His mom will be watching Nathan and we are looking forward to having a real date. I’m so nervous though.” A strange shadow of a wind kicks up and howls through the cemetery, the shadow moves straight at the group of four. Zethes moves quickly and has a wind of his intercept it and disperse the shadow. Selena grabs Kya up and holds her close. Looking around she says, “I think I need to get home. See you soon,” she leans in, hugs Bath and then Zethes, “love you guys.” Kya parrots her, “Love you guys!” They kiss her little face and Selena quickly walks to her truck. After getting Kya settled in she gets in her seat and quickly leaves. Bath and Zethes stand watching, solemn as she drives away. “What was that?” Zethes looks toward the fresh grave, “It seemed to be a weak shadow of Gabriel.” Bath turns in surprise, “What? How is that even possible?” “I don’t know. In all this time, I have never seen it happen. It is dispersed though. It’ll be fine. I am sure it was just a one off thing.” Bath raises an eyebrow, “Let’s go home.”
