“It’s blue,” she said, almost unable to breathe. “Can you really see it? Can you really see me?”
He reached out and touched her face. “Just the faintest outline, but yes. I know where you are.”
Tears began to pour down her cheeks, and she thought she might burst from the tidal wave of sudden emotion. “All this happened just now?”
“Over the last several minutes. At first, I thought I was imagining things, but no, I could really see blue. Or purple.”
“Blue.” She grinned. “Have you always struggled with the names of the colors, Mr. Turner, or is this a new thing?”
“You have to admit, that blue does have some purple in it,” he insisted. “I’m not going to complain, though. The fact that I can see it at all is a miracle.”
“Yes, it is. A miracle I’ll remember the rest of my life.” She went up on her tiptoes and kissed him, overwhelmed with gratitude not only for having this man in her life, but the fact that they could take this journey together, whatever it might bring them.
“I wonder how long it will be before I can see even more,” he said, wrapping his arms around her waist. “What kind of progress will we have tomorrow, or the day after that?”
She looked up into his eyes. “I can’t wait for tomorrow so we can find out. In the meantime, I’m enjoying today quite a lot.”
“Every day with you is a blessing, Helen. Every single day.”
She buried her face in his shirtfront, the tears beginning to flow again. He could see blue. Or purple. It didn’t matter—whatever color it was, he could see it. Anything was possible now—absolutely anything.

About Amelia C. Adams
Amelia traces her family tree right back to the settlement of the Old West—her great-great-grandmother even drove a wagon to her new home. Amelia is a wife, a mother, and a novelist. She spends her days dreaming up stories and her nights writing them down. Her biggest hero is her husband, and you might just see bits and pieces of him as you read her novels. She loves all things historical and enjoys learning about days gone by, but she's glad she was born in modern times because the Internet is awesome, and she's glad she doesn't have to wash her clothes by hand in a galvanized tub. She’s an eater of tacos, a taker of naps, and a dreamer of dreams.
You can reach Amelia at [email protected].
