The Alpha Vampire's Proposal: An Mpreg Paranormal Romance (Flickering Shadows Book 1) Page 12

The omega lifted his hips and groaned. “I want to feel all of you.”

Gulping mouthfuls of air, Alexander closed his eyes while his mate gripped his cock, sending waves of pleasure crashing over him. He’s so tight. Tremors wracked this body as he pushed the blood lust deep inside him, wanting to share this journey with Declan as partners.

He shoved in further, and the omega clamped around him causing a burst of energy to pulse through the alpha. His body hummed and sizzled and desire seared his flesh, marking him as he had done to Declan in front of the vampire coven.

This was a first for the alpha. Coming together, caring about the person beneath him, and not just mindless fucking. An aching tension built inside him as he tussled with competing forces. One wanting to take the omega as his true mate and the other demanding he drain the human.

  “Harder, Alexander.”

Yes. His mate’s trust gave him the strength to wrestle the blood lust and stamp on it. I can do this. He gritted his teeth and plowed into his mate. Declan yelped as Alexander buried his dick in the omega’s warm slick passage. The alpha ran his tongue over his teeth, but the urge to bite Declan was now little more than a whimper.

He pulled out, and his mate groaned.

“I’m just getting started.” Alexander thrust into Declan again, and the omega almost lifted off the bed. Too hard. Take it easy.

“Plunging into the omega’s tight hole, their combined sweat and Declan’s slick blanketed them both. The continuous slapping of his body against his mate breached his defences and with his head down he rammed his cock in again. And again!

  “Alexander! Harder.”

The alpha pushed in and out, the brutal strength of his passion spurring him on, while a deep primitive tug that signaled a climax was building inside his belly had him cry out, “Declan!”

“I can’t hold on much longer,” the omega yelled. He tossed his head from side to side and groaned with each thrust.

“Wait. For. Me.” Alexander arched his back as his body convulsed. His mind was spiraling and he couldn’t control the spasms as the room spun around. But Declan’s voice yelling his name brought him to his senses. With his head back, he savored his mate’s scent and let go. He released inside the omega as Declan came, and his mate’s strangled cry accompanied the creamy cum spurting over both their bodies.

The alpha collapsed beside his mate, drained and yet complete. He dragged Declan to his side and wrapped his arms around him. I’ll never let you go.

Declan lay curled beside Alexander and the alpha placed a light kiss on his mate’s lips.

The omega sat up and his voice was hesitant as he asked, “Does this change everything? Do you expect me to… become like you? Because I can’t. Finn…”

Alexander placed a finger on his mate’s lips. “Definitely not. Finn must have a human parent.”

“So, that’s settled. We don’t discuss this again until our son is an adult.”

  “Agreed.”

“In the meantime, I’ll get lines on my face and my jowls might sag.” The omega grinned.

“If I can put up with the drool, I can deal with a bit of wattle on the neck.”

“Fine, on the condition you never say ‘wattle’ again.”

  “You remind me of Pierce.”

  “Like father, like son.”

  Declan

“I want to sprinkle Ian’s ashes on the lake.”

“Are you sure?” Alexander brought Declan’s hands to his lips and kissed them.

“Yeah.” The omega rested his head on his mate’s shoulder. “It’s time to say goodbye.”

  “Okay.”

“Today, Alexander. And we’ll take a bottle of champagne. I want to toast my former life.”

  “It’s a big step.”

“I’m a bit wobbly. It’s taken me a long time to understand I can revere Ian’s memory but I don’t have to live in the shadow of that relationship. By moving on, I’m not disrespecting it, but putting it in a special place I can visit whenever I want.”

Pierce grumbled about being pulled away from his video game. “I’m in the middle of an epic battle, Dad.”

“You’re part of this family and that means supporting everyone even when you don’t want to. Get in the car.”

The teenager stormed outside, yelling, “Fine, but if I lose my place on the team, I’m leaving home.”

“I’ll help you pack,” Declan shouted back.

  Alexander shrugged. “Teenagers.”

“We’ll have two of them at some point.”

  “Don’t remind me.”

The omega gripped the car door handle and leaned forward as they got closer to the lake. He hadn’t been back since the house was destroyed, though Alexander had had the site cleared. As they turned the last corner, the omega was reminded of the day his mate had driven him home from the courthouse. The day of Finn’s birth.

  “Breathe, Declan.”

“Wow! This is beautiful.” Pierce stood on the back seat with his arms outstretched, and Finn squealed and gurgled at his big brother.

“You’re right. I’d forgotten just how much.” But as the car drew up to the house site, the omega’s heart flip-flopped. Alexander squeezed his hand, and Pierce rubbed his dad’s shoulder.

“We can do this another time.”

‘No.” The omega inhaled the familiar aroma of pine needles and opened the door. “I’m ready.”

Pierce held Finn while Declan and Alexander wandered through the overgrown site.

“It’s hard to believe there was a house here.” The omega picked up a piece of a broken crockery and rubbed his finger over it, remembering how he and Ian had eaten their meals from those plates.

The alpha stood behind his mate and enveloped him in his arms. “So many memories.”

The pair stood in silence until Pierce stuck his head in the boat house and yelled, “Is that a kayak?”

“I’m surprised no one stole it.”

“People don’t come to this part of the lake any more, Declan.”

  “So they know…”

The alpha shook his head. “There were many rumors—none of them good.”

Pierce handed Finn to Declan and dragged the kayak to the water’s edge. “Can I take it out?”

Without thinking, the omega pointed to the life jackets hanging on the wall. “You’re not going out without one.”

Alexander nudged his mate. “There’s no need.”

“You’re right.” Declan smacked his forehead. “But he should wear one as an example to Finn. I don’t want the baby growing up thinking he can go without a seatbelt.” He glared at the alpha. “Or not wear sunscreen or drive on the wrong side of the road.”

“Who does that?” Alexander’s head swiveled to the left, right and up above.

  The omega grinned. “I wonder.”

  Pierce shrugged on a lifejacket.

“Be back in 30 minutes. I want to spread the ashes, and you promised you’d roast that pork loin for my dinner.”

With Pierce paddling onto the lake, Declan lay on his back, his feet dangling in the water while Alexander entertained Finn. The baby’s giggles, water splashing and the sun on his face had the omega’s lids grow heavy.

He woke with a start, his fingers trailing in the water.

  “Enjoy your nap?”

“Mmmm.” The omega rubbed his eyes and glanced at his watch. “You should have woken me. Where’s Pierce?” He shaded his eyes. “Can you see him?”

Alexander handed the baby to the omega. “I’ll take the canoe and look for him.”

Declan glanced behind him at the place where his house one stood. “It’s silly, but I don’t want to be left alone here.” He shivered. “Memories of that night are too fresh. We’ll come with you.”

The alpha’s strength had them in the middle of the lake in a few minutes but by the time they discovered Pierce, who reluctantly agreed to return, the sun was sinking behind the hills.
r />   Standing knee deep in the water, Declan held the urn up to the setting sun. “Rest well, Ian. Part of me will always love you. I’ll tell our son about you when he’s older. Know that he and I are happy, and he has a big brother and two dads who adore him. Farewell.”

With tears streaming over his cheeks, the omega upturned the urn and watched the breeze cradle the ashes and whisk them away.

Alexander popped the champagne cork and handed both his mate and Pierce a glass. “To Ian.”

It was dark as the family started for home. There was a chill in the air, and Declan had Alexander put up the top.

But as they wound their way through the pine forest, the car vibrated, followed by a humming. One of the tires emitted a sharp squeal and Sunshine lurched to one side.

“Damn.” Alexander righted the car and pulled over.

  “A flat?”

  “Don’t worry. I’ll change it.”

The omega made to get out.

“Stay here with Finn.” The alpha glanced at the sleeping baby. “He’s worn out.”

“Isn’t it dangerous to stay in a car when the tire…”

The alpha put his fingers to Declan’s lips. “Trust me. Pierce and I have got this.”

“This is so cool. I’ve never lifted a car before.” The teenager leapt outside.

“If you tip us over, you’re grounded for a month,” Declan huffed.

The omega checked his phone while Alexander and Pierce chatted. But when their voices faded and a tool clattered onto the road, he stuck his head outside. Anxiety pulsed through his veins as he studied his mate and son’s expressions.

Declan followed their gaze and squinted into the flickering shadows. Figures outlined in a sliver of light moved through the trees. He inhaled their odor. Vampires. But some of the shapes were bowed over, while others limped.

  “Alexander?”

“Pierce, stay with your father and brother. Declan get in the driver’s seat.”

The omega opened his mouth but one glance at his mate’s face told him not to question him. He scrambled over the gearshift and clutched the steering wheel while Pierce sat beside Finn and put an arm over the baby carrier.

“Alexander Fletcher. Fancy meeting you here.”

  “Seamus.”

Hearing the relief in his mate’s voice, Declan exhaled and released his grip. I thought Fergal’s friends had regrouped.

“What’s going on?” Alexander’s voice rang out as he nodded toward the humans.

Declan rested his chin on the steering wheel and studied the mortals’ thin bodies and pale skin, along with their vacant stares.

“Nothing to see here. Take your family and go home.”

“Why so secretive?” Alexander pointed to the humans. “And why are you dragging these people through the woods when they’re ill? They should be seen by a doctor.”

“Don’t concern yourself. They’ll get what they deserve.”

A shiver shot up the omega’s spine at the vampire’s words.

  “I’m calling Ambrose.”

The alpha pulled out his phone but Seamus’s hand pounced on the device. His polite expression faded and was replaced with something more threatening.

“No need to disturb him.” The coven’s second-in-command glanced at the car. “You have a beautiful family, Alexander.” He sneered at the teenager. “Minus the mutt.”

Pierce yelped, and Declan hissed at his older son before he could make a move. “Stay. Right. There.”

  “But…”

  “Do it!”

“Get back in the car, Alexander, and forget what you’ve seen. Enjoy the rest of your evening.” He tipped an imaginary hat at Declan and strode away. The forest swallowed the group but Alexander stood motionless.

Declan and Pierce joined him, and the omega threaded his fingers through his mate’s. “What was that about?”

“I’m going to find out. I’ll drop you three at home before heading to Ambrose’s.”

“Those humans have lost hope.” The omega peered over his shoulder, but the group had vanished.

  “They’ve been drained. Many times.”

“Thank you for that observation, Pierce.” Alexander clapped a hand on his son’s shoulder.

  “It’s obvious.”

  “Not to everyone.”

Declan took note of Alexander’s strained voice. “Meaning me?”

“I didn’t want you to worry.”

  “Too late.”
