Read The Rain Began to Fall Storyline:

Leigh Thompson, the exceptionally beautiful daughter of Cheryl and the late tobacco magnate Austin Thompson, is on a solid life course, her extravagant wedding to rising Charlotte attorney and childhood friend Gene Sykes only three months away. In her capacity as the Human Resources Manager at Falstead Inc., a large electronics parts manufacturer in the Queen City, Leigh regularly takes new employees through the orientation process, a fine tuned procedure she has established that informs and prepares everyone; no surprises, no deviation. None, that is, until the day Kyle Tilston walks through her door. He is new in town, arriving in Charlotte a month earlier behind the wheel of his ’68 Chevy II muscle car, sporting a black leather jacket and exuding a cool confident demeanor. Well built and handsome, he sits across from her, folding his hands and smiling, gazing at her flirtatiously with the most captivating eyes she has ever seen. She begins nervously going over the policies and procedures, experiencing an unknown excitement that rocks her to her core. As she fights to maintain her professional composure, he sits silently, saying nothing; but words aren’t necessary to convey his message; it’s delivered and received as if it were written down and handed to her. After the meeting, she dismisses her reaction to him as a by- product of her monthly visitor, which had rudely arrived, unannounced and two days early, that morning. But she encounters him again in due course of their shared employment, and the swarming butterflies in her stomach do not subside. That she would desire another man so close to her wedding – especially one of Kyle’s stripe - causes a major upheaval in her heart and mind. She struggles to keep her planned life on track, analyzing her emotions, deducing that her wayward thoughts are the result of pre-wedding jitters, and dismissing her attraction to Kyle as a regressive, childish fantasy. But there is more to Kyle Tilston than meets the eye. Beneath the rough boy, devil may care exterior he displays to the world is a prolific writer and deep thinker, with both feet planted firmly on the ground, and both eyes on Leigh Thompson. Before her father passed away six years ago, Leigh was a different girl; independent, adventurous and not at all sure that Gene, whom she had known since childhood, was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. But her vivacious spirit was buried with her father, and in her grief she clung to the familiarity of her lifelong relationship with the budding attorney, never daring to let her heart venture forth. Not until the moment she stared into Kyle’s amazing eyes, and felt a desire she had never known.
