Nicola takes a holiday job in the New Forest, coaching teenage Sarah in French. She is horrified to meet Robert, Sarah's half-brother, with whom she had a serious confrontation about the wrong messages attached to floral gifts. She cannot understand Robert's antagonism towards Sarah's boyfriend, and wonders what his relationship to the glamorous Jane is.
