When he offered her the chance of taking the pick of the horses out to New South Wales, and a new life in the care of Mr. Russell's nephew William Bower, Jane gladly accepted; at least she could still be with the beloved horses, although she accepted that it would mean once again running into Rodden Gair, the man who had jilted her.
