Our mind is meant to protect us from trauma, but like the nightmares that fall upon us when vulnerable and asleep, truths often travel alongside the surreal thoughts.
I have lived without an explanation for the way I am and assumed it was just a part of life. I told myself that there isn’t always a reason for what happens, but I was wrong, and I learned: A stranger sometimes isn’t a stranger, love can unknowingly be standing right in front of us, and lifelong decisions are often made before we’re old enough to understand commitment. However, the most important part was finding out that life is a lesson filled with love and hate, and as it turns out ... the contrasting emotions grow off one another. 
I once needed a man, but it wasn’t until I didn’t need him that I wanted him more than anything.
