Her physician father, who has long disapproved of his daughter’s line of work, finds his reputation in jeopardy when he’s wrongfully linked to an American patient’s death. Charlie’s father may have a cold demeanor, but his skills as an orthopedic surgeon are beyond dispute. Who would want to discredit him—and why? The subsequent kidnapping of Charlie’s mother offers some answers and ignites a cat-and-mouse game, in which Charlie and her security-agent boyfriend seek to protect Charlie’s parents at all costs. Fox is a satisfyingly complex character, the survivor of a brutal gang rape and multiple gunshots that have wounded both her body and mind.
