I was only vaguely aware that Gertie was now standing with her back to me, holding her phone in the air. She was taking a selfie with Celia and I in the background, capturing this special moment for all time.
When Celia realized she wasn’t dead, she began yelling and flailing about, demanding I put her down, but I was still numb from the experience and made no immediate move. I just continued to hold her as she flopped around like a fish on a line.
