Now what?
Nothing he tried would calm her.
If he couldn’t stop it, what could I do?
“Should I pull the nurse’s cord?” I asked loudly, unsure of how else to help.
As her cries grew louder, I became less and less confident of motherhood. Given what just happened between us, I may not even be a decent wife.
No one warned us about this.
I clutched my robe, still coming down from a climax I wouldn’t reach, while Calish abandoned the role of lover to be a father. The quick change worried me. I lowered myself to the edge of the bed and watched the two of them, barely able to hear my own thoughts over the unexplainable noise coming out of the tiniest human I’d ever seen.
I wondered, when would we have an intimate moment again?
Something in Hope’s voice told me it would be a long, long while.
