Twisted Affair: Dark Taboo Romance (Eddie and Heaven Book 1)

A Twisted Beginning
Blurb:
Over twelve years ago I saw the girl who was going to change my life forever.
Heaven Jones.
Heaven completely changed my life around. She turned me from a life of crime, from being someone who was selfish and only thought about himself, to being someone who wanted to make the world a better place for others.
She did that for me.
And though everyone around us thinks we’re too young for a forever love, we’ve both experienced tragedy and we know life is too short to question oneself. So we’re going to grab this love with both hands.
Even with someone we both trust making plans to split us up.
Chapter One
Eddie
2014
I saw her first.
“Dibs,” I told my best friend, Zander O’Sullivan, and shoved him slightly when we both caught sight of the beautiful brown-skinned goddess being escorted down the hallway by our principal.
“Hey! No fair. Why do you get dibs?” Zander whined and I rolled my eyes and turned to him.
“Couple reasons. One, I called it. Two, I saw her first. Three, I called it. Four, she’ll look much better on my arm than on yours. Five, I called it. Oh, and did I mention?” I shrugged.
“I called it.”
“You’re such an a-hole,” Zander grumbled, and I laughed before punching him in the shoulder, and heading towards the girl whose life I was about to change with five little words.
I strolled up to Principal Roberts, whose daughter, Mrs. Olivia, was my favorite teacher, and flashed the older woman a smile.
“Hello, Principal Roberts. How are you today?” I asked, giving her my most charming grin.
“Hello Edward,” the nice, older black woman greeted me. My mom and I agreed that Principal Roberts looked a lot like Cicely Tyson, but slightly younger. Which meant she was due the utmost respect. At least that’s what my mom said.
“What sort of misbehavior are you coming to admit to so early in the morning?” She questioned, quirking her sculpted, pencil-thin, black, left eyebrow. I shivered internally. The look she was giving me now always made me feel guilty, no matter if I was innocent or hadn’t done anything to get in trouble for… yet, one look from Principal Roberts and I wanted to go and stand in a corner.
Or maybe go with my mom to church and see if that God she was always praying to would forgive me if I went to the altar. Which was crazy, because I couldn’t think of a person who was more of an atheist than I was. Except perhaps my dad. But that was a story for another time: the way my mother, a devout Christian, met and fell in love with a man who was a hardcore atheist.
“I’m not here to tell you about anything I’ve done wrong, Principal Roberts,” I told her and though my gaze was focused on hers, I was watching the gorgeous new student out of the corner of my eyes. Holy shit, she was amazing. With skin that looked a bit like her almost black skin had been lightly sprayed with golden flecks or a golden aura, she also had black hair that fell in big waves to her shoulders.
I considered myself a bit of an expert on finding beautiful women. And usually, I didn’t just find them, but I dated them as well. That part wasn’t so hard. Everyone wanted to date the captain and quarterback of the football team. I wasn’t exactly sure what made me so desirable to them, beyond my good looks, my muscled frame, and my status on the football team, but I wasn’t going to complain. My dad always told me to appreciate my popularity now, because there would come a day when I didn’t have it and I’d have to fend for myself. Have to get people to like me based on my personality, but… he was an old man. What did he know? Back when he was my age, people were marching for racial and gender equality, there was a racist in the White House, people were barely making enough to feed their families, the country had just left one war and was on the verge of another one…
Wait…
Maybe my dad did know what he was talking about.
“Well, if your confession is not what you want to give me, then why are you here?” Principal Roberts asked.
My eyes slid over in the direction of the new student and Principal Roberts huffed.
“Edward Steele, you are not your brother Logan. Had it been him not so subtly asking for me to introduce him to the new, pretty girl in school, I would have been happy to do so, but, since it’s you, very much the bad seed of the Steele family? I am going to say, make your own introductions,” Principal Roberts said with a slight scowl on her face.
My face heated only slightly at the reprimand from the principal. Yes, it was true that I was the troublemaking Steele son. My older brother—half-brother—had talked about going off to the military, repeatedly, had a great girlfriend, Parker, who was a teacher, whose adopted parents were rich, and even though he and my father didn’t see eye-to-eye, whenever Logan wasn’t around, the old man was always asking me why I couldn’t be more like Logan. It seems that everyone wanted that.
I sighed dejectedly, prepared to find a way to meet the new, gorgeous, freshman some other time, but before I could walk off, she stepped forward and held out her hand.
“Hi, I’m Heaven. Heaven Jones.”
I took her hand in mine and my eyes widened when I felt what could only be described as an intense static shock through my fingers and all the way down to my groin. Oh yeah, she was definitely Heaven.
“Hey Heaven, I’m Eddie.”
Chapter Two
Heaven
I’d been pretty angry at my older sister Ava when she’d moved us away from our Florida hometown, of Daytona Beach, and up to Baltimore because of her job. Ava and I had grown up in Daytona, the only two daughters of a pastor and her husband, a Police Chief. We’d been expected to get good grades. To excel in everything we did. To always be a positive light in our community and to never do anything that brought shame or dishonor to our family name. And Ava and I had done that. Had maintained our grades, our involvement in the community, and even our virginity our entire lives until both of our parents died in a plane crash on the way back from Baltimore.
And the secrets came out.
My father had an entire second family that my mother knew about, while my mother was a part of an organization of women who had been involved in criminal activity, murder, and drugs. Then there had been the rumors, the accusations, and the evidence of sexual assault by my father upon women he arrested. As well as my mother’s affair with a younger man… an extremely young man. He was 19 to my mother’s 38.
When my parents had passed and everything had been exposed, Ava hadn’t hesitated. She’d gone to her job and asked for a transfer to Baltimore and though she’d told me it was so she could get us far away from all the heartbreak of Florida, I’d had to wonder why we were moving to the city our parents had been coming from when they’d died.
Since moving here, I’d barely seen my sister. She’d met back up with some of her friends from college, who’d introduced her to some other women, and it wasn’t long before my sister was only around for breakfast and dinner, leaving me to my own devices.
She’d actually thought I’d been in school for three weeks, but I hadn’t been. Instead, I’d spent the last few weeks exploring my new city and getting into all kinds of trouble. I’d only decided to finally enroll at the high school because I could actually feel myself getting stupider.
But I’d had no plans of actually sticking around. At least not until I’d seen him.
Edward Steele.
Eddie.
He was absolutely the most gorgeous boy I’d ever seen in my life. With his dirty blonde hair, thin, Romanesque nose, surprisingly full lips, green eyes, and the widest shoulders I’d ever seen on a boy who was younger than 18. The fact that he kept looking at me with what I could only call a predatory gaze definitely made him much more interesting. Growing up in Florida there had been very few boys who’d wanted to try and date “the pastor’s daughter” or to try their luck at the Police Chief’s “baby girl,” so for the most
part, holding onto my virginity hadn’t so much been because I was trying to live the virtuous life my mother had wanted me to… it was more or less the lack of opportunity.
But here was Eddie, who absolutely had to be the cutest boy in the school, who appeared to be interested in me. I saw the way he kept glancing in my direction while talking with Principal Roberts. She’d known my parents and had met my sister when we’d first moved to B-More, so when I’d shown up that morning, ready to start learning again, she’d only quirked an eyebrow at me in reproach, before she got me into some classes.
But now, Principal Roberts was scowling. Though whether it was directed towards Edward—Eddie—Steele or to me I wasn’t entirely certain, all I knew was that the older woman was displeased.
But I couldn’t care less.
“Would you like to show me to my classes, Eddie? I’m sure that Principal Roberts is extremely busy,” I suggested, giving him what I hoped was a flirtatious smile.
I watched as Eddie’s shoulders squared and he lifted his chin. He looked proud that I’d asked him, that I wasn’t playing coy and bashful, too afraid to take what I wanted. I wasn’t some weak, whimpering girl. I’d been through some sh—crap. Dang it. I really thought I was going to curse that time. I’d been trying for months, but never could.
As I stared at Eddie, who was assuring Principal Roberts that he would not lead me “into trouble”, I knew he was the type of boy who could teach me how to use profanity properly.
And maybe he could teach me some other things as well.
“Are you ready, Heaven?” Eddie asked, giving me a smile.
I nodded. “I sure am, Eddie. Lead the way.”
