Bound to Her Blood Enemy

Page 24

by Tora Williams

Finally, Huw broke the kiss, and she rested her head in the crook of his neck. When he spoke, she felt the rumble of his voice against her cheek.

“If you insist on paying a blood price, then we must do this properly. The value of these jewels is far more than any blood price. We must ask the king to agree to an amount so you can keep the rest for yourself. He leaned over, and she heard the chime of gems striking gold, then she felt a cold weight settle around her neck. She looked down to see a wondrous necklace of gold and rubies.

Huw fastened it then leaned back to look. “It’s no match for your beauty,” he said, “but you must keep this for yourself. After all, I want my wife to have nothing but the finest jewels to wear at the feast I have planned.”

  “A feast?”

“Yes. To celebrate the return of my wife to Coed Bedwen. It will be even more lavish than our wedding feast.” His eyes darkened, setting her pulse jumping. “Although it will differ from our wedding feast in one important respect.”

“And what’s that?” Huw’s burning gaze made her so breathless she could hardly get the words out.

“I fully intend to bed my wife this time.”

Her heart thumping, light-hearted with joy, she smiled. “It will be my pleasure.” She pulled his head down and covered his mouth with hers, a pledge of her enduring love.

Then Huw pressed her down upon the bed of bluebells and, enveloped in their sweet fragrance, proved to her all over again just how deeply he loved her.

  A word about the author…

Tora lives in Shropshire in the United Kingdom. On childhood holidays her interest in history was fired by exploring castles in Wales and the Welsh borders, and she would make up stories about characters living there. When she started writing, it seemed only natural to turn to the settings that inspired her as a child. In her free time, when she can drag herself away from reading, she enjoys walking and cycling.
