Before the rest of them disbanded, Liana spun me around to face her. “Can you believe it, S? Can you?” She shook me a little in her excitement. “We’re going to attend the world-famous Magical Creatures Academy! On land. I … wow.”

I grinned, pulling her into a happy embrace before she could squeal and jump any more.

It was an ending I surely hadn’t anticipated, but it was the best kind of ending, because it was actually a whole new beginning.

When Liana turned to continue her celebration with Brogan, Quinn swept me into his arms. “You did it, Selene. You found the way for us to be together.”

I really had. I breathed that reality in, feeling ease finally settle into me, sinking deep into my bones.

“And your eyes aren’t glowing anymore,” he added. “Or, well, maybe just a little bit.”

That’s because the magic inside me had calmed and assimilated, but hadn’t diluted much in the end. I’d simply given it order, and perhaps even learned to control it a little.

There was so much I could say, so much I wanted to consider, but I was tired of talking and deliberating and wondering.

I had the chance at a life with Quinn that I’d wished for. I still had my magic, and he had his. And I was about to embark on a new adventure with him and my best friend.

With the widest grin I believed I’d ever smiled, I wrapped my hands around Quinn’s neck, yanked him down toward me, and pressed my lips to his. Right away, his hands wove around my waist, pulling me flush against him.

Our kiss deepened until it grew hot and passionate, imbued with all our triumphs and desires. We kissed until Egan mumbled something about asking Nancy to drench us in cold water, while Fianna giggled like a crazed fairy in the background.

We’d heal from the traumas of our past, I was sure of it.

Our life together was just beginning, and it was already magical.

Dangers or not, I knew the Magical Creatures Academy was precisely the place for us—there was no place better.

His hands still tight and searing across my waist, I pulled back to stare into Quinn’s eyes. My heart leapt as their abalone colors blazed, seeing only me, and promising a very, very fun summer.

  The Magical Creatures Academy Series

Upper YA Urban Fantasy by Lucía Ashta

Rina Nelle Mont has never been a part of the paranormal world. Until now.

Well, maybe not. The Magical Creatures Academy only accepts supernaturals, and she’s been invited to the school, but she has none of the powers she’s supposed to. Blip. Nada. Not even a spark.

The school hasn’t made a mistake in a century, but she might be the first one. That’s just the kind of thing that would happen to her. Especially since no one has any idea what kind of creature she’ll be … assuming her powers ever decide to make an appearance.

The Academy is the leading institution for paranormal creatures in the world. Its students are the finest of shifters, vampires, and fae.

Speaking of fine fae … Leander Verion, prince of the elves, is off limits. Not only is he arrogant, stubborn, and totally not her style, he’s her brother’s best friend. She will not fall for him. No way. Besides, he’s not interested … is he?

When two men who head the Shifter Alliance, a rebel faction of shapeshifters who seek to escape the control of the Enforcers—the supernatural police force—find out about Rina and her potential for a different kind of magic, they hunt her. For them, the stakes are as personal as they get.

Whether she’s ready or not, Rina is about to find out what she’s made of…

  Acknowledgments

I’d write no matter what, because telling stories is a passion, but the following people make creating worlds (and life) a joy. I’m eternally grateful for the support of my beloved, James, my mother, Elsa, and my three daughters, Catia, Sonia, and Nadia. They’ve always believed in me, even before I published a single word. They help me see the magic in the world around me, and more importantly, within.

I’m thankful for every single one of you who’ve reached out to tell me that one of my stories touched you in one way or another, made you smile or cry, or kept you up long past your bedtime. You’ve given me reason to keep writing.
