Rising Sun (The Red Trilogy Book 1)

“So long as he keeps his distance from me, I have no objections.” Gregory shrugged, the shutters falling back over his expression, as they always did when discussing his brother.
“We’ll take it one day at a time.” Michael brushed off Gregory’s melodramatic display with a wave of his hand. Then, returning his gaze to me, he reached into his jacket. “By the way, Joe left this for you, Gloria. I found it on my desk this morning and took it for safekeeping.”
He pulled out an envelope and waved it in front of me. Despite Michael’s jerky movements, I spotted the official seal on the back. And my name was scrawled on the front in Mr. Kohler’s elegant handwriting.
My breath caught—it had been a month, already. I’d completely forgotten.
“Why in the world do you have that?” I growled, snatching the envelope from Michael’s hands. “That’s my rejection letter. Don’t sully it with your hands.”
Michael shot me a look of forced patience. “It’s not a rejection letter.”
The seal seemed to be intact. I looked at him, suspicious. “How do you know? Did you look already?”
“I didn’t look.” Michael’s mouth curled. “It’s just a feeling.”
