Wolves and War

Geraldine and Jsei were not the only two who had acted in tandem to fight off the Larg. Robert Lutterell turned to Ustinya and Louis.

“Can you tell others of that Lindar to fight closer to the infantry?”

Ustinya considered the question carefully. She looked at Louis to translate. It was often much easier that way. “Yes,” she said at last.

“Ustinya says that those who wish to fight alongside the humans will do so. The Lindar has noted what is happening too. Lind watch out for their rtathen fighting at their side in the ryz. One warrior attacks the Larg head, the other goes underneath.”

“You want me order them to help humans?” asked Ustinya of Robert, a wary eye on what was happening in front of her.

“If they can,” he answered. The duos can guard the infantry flanks that are susceptible to breakthrough. They can stop any incursions.”

Ustinya’s eyes became unfocused as she endeavoured to make telepathic contact with the Ratvei Susa. Robert watched as some of the pack detached themselves from their own ryz and placed themselves in position amongst the infantry. The men and women without a Lind beside them formed up in between the twosomes, tightening the shield wall.

They waited, silent and unmoving, for the third assault that day. The infantry took large gulps of water from their canisters. Fighting was dry work. Those standing beside the Lind offered them some as well, an offer gratefully accepted, although the Lind took but little.
