Well This Sucks

“I don’t think women will like something so cheesy,” she said while wrinkling her nose.

I was just about to murder Graham when the door was violently opened, and Diego came crashing in.

I was thankful he was here, but sucking hell! My power suit was wasted thanks to Graham. These vamps were seriously a bunch of cock blocks.

  Drew

Diego had the entire room compelled within minutes. As far as they were concerned, I shared the perfect pitch. We would be going into production to expand the Out of This World line in two months, and I would oversee the marketing. It was a dream come true, but the victory felt hollow. I wanted to earn it on my own, but Graham sucked that up when he started compelling the board.

Diego cleared the conference room and shut all the blinds so he could speak with Graham personally.

“How did you know I was here? Weren’t you in royal court this morning? No cell phones allowed, hmm,” Graham asked. “Why hide that you’re mates when it’s so obvious?”

“What Drew and I do is none of your concern. Your obsession with her is starting to piss me off. And as far as where I was, you’re right. I was in royal court this morning, along with the rest of the council. Except for you. Did you forget that today’s meeting included council members? I was going to announce our bond there, but I was pulled here to deal with you.” Diego deflected. “I’m sure Claire will be very interested to hear that you found Drew’s pitch meeting to be more worthwhile than being in court. I know I did.”

Graham’s already pale face drained of the rest of its color. He fumbled with his phone for a minute, cursed under his breath, and then mumbled some lame excuse. Without a trace of his usual arrogance, Graham apologized. “I’m sorry, Diego. I had the wrong day in my calendar. It won’t happen again.”

“Why are you here, Graham?” Diego asked. “You’re harassing my mate at every turn. Invading her place of work. Overstepping at the DVM.”

Graham’s nostrils flared, and I stared wide-eyed at the two powerful vamps. “She’s not worthy,” Graham growled.

“That’s rich coming from you,” Diego spat. “The only unworthy person in this room is you. Don’t let your prejudice get you killed, Graham.”

“Is that a threat?” he asked, his face turning red with anger.

“It is. I’ll behead you without a second thought. You might have a handful of vampires that would miss you, but make no mistake, I am king. My people will support me. And they will love their future queen.”

Graham cackled. “You’re so sure, huh? You have fewer supporters than you think, your majesty.”

They stared at one another for a long moment. It was Diego who spoke first. “You better go talk to Claire before I do,” Diego commanded. I felt his power echo through the room. “Walk home, Graham. The forty blocks will help clear your mind.” Graham reluctantly nodded his head and ran out of the room. When the door shut behind Graham, I looked back to Diego and Rocky, who were having a silent conversation with their eyes.

“What happened?” I asked, completely confused.

“At least he’s freaked out about missing court,” Rocky offered, making them both laugh.

“I don’t get the joke,” I said once their chuckles dissolved to silence.

“The royal court meets with the council members twice a year. It helps to balance out the power of the ruling king. It’s very important for all council members to attend—missing one for any reason could result in dismissal.”

“Okay, so why are the two of you over there cackling?”

“Because that particular meeting is next month, and Graham is going to be pissed when he figures it out.”

I wanted to be amused, I really did, but I was still hung up on the fact that Graham showed up to my work. Today was supposed to be normal. And what was with that threatening pissing match between him and Diego. “Why is he obsessed with me?”

“Graham doesn’t like anything or anyone that will make me more powerful than him.” Diego looked at Rocky and nodded, excusing my bodyguard from the conference room. When the door closed, Diego continued. “I know it’s frustrating, but Graham sees you as a threat.”

Diego wrapped his arms around me, and I melted into them. The hug was everything I needed. “Thank you for coming to save the day.”

“I think maybe we need to increase your security.” I scowled at that, and Diego continued. “I’m sorry that he ruined your pitch. I know you have been working hard on it.”

I pulled away and shrugged before grabbing a pair of black handcuffs on top of the table. “It was a really epic pitch,” I said with a sigh.

“How about you deliver it to me, huh?” Diego unbuttoned his jacket and sat down in one of the chairs.

“Really?” I asked with a smirk.

  “Really.”

I smiled for a moment before taking the time to appreciate the look of him in the conference room. His suit was tight and pitch black. His hair was slicked back. The slight dusting of facial hair on his jaw looked so scruffy and inviting. I wondered how it would feel against my breasts.

“Well,” I began with a cough. Diego smirked, probably picking up on my naughty thoughts. “I seem to remember you bursting in right as I was finishing up with the Black Veil. I was about to move on, but I think I better use these.” I twirled the handcuffs around my finger for emphasis. “To make sure you stay put.” I snapped one of the fuzzy black handcuff rings around his wrist and the other to his chair, leaving one of his hands free.

“Nice and secure,” I said, bending over to kiss him.

“Are you sure about this?” Diego asked. I traced my tongue along his bottom lip until he parted for me. Diego slid his free hand up my body to cup my breast. He ran his thumb over my nipple, and it hardened at his touch. I flicked my tongue over his fangs and withdrew from him.

“Sure about what?” I teased and walked back to the table. He groaned his displeasure at me leaving him. I picked up the nipple clamps from the table, dangling them off my fingers for Diego to see. I had never used them before, and this set looked more like a torture device than one for pleasure. Aria said she came three times while testing it.

I slid my pink suit jacket off and let it fall to the floor. Then, I slowly unbuttoned my blouse, watching Diego’s steely eyes burn with anticipation as my fingers worked to reveal my white lace bra underneath. After undoing the last button, I let my blouse join my jacket on the floor, and I climbed onto Diego’s lap, straddling him. He wasted no time unhooking the flimsy lace and exposing my breasts. He brought his free hand back to my nipple and took the other one into his mouth, teasing it with his tongue.

I tossed my head back and moaned in pleasure. Diego’s mouth felt so good on my body that I almost forgot the clamps I was holding. I pulled back far enough to connect one clamp to each nipple.

I felt Diego’s cock harden beneath me.

My breasts stung. Yep. This was a fucking torture device.

  “You alright?”

“These things hurt. Holy hell,” I said while squirming.

Diego chuckled as he tugged on one of the clamps, nearly tearing off my nipple in the process. “I think I can help,” he said with a wicked grin. I watched in hungry anticipation as his engorged fangs sunk into my skin. A quick burst of pleasure invaded my senses as he pulled blood into his mouth from my full cleavage.

“Oh fuck,” I whispered. It was an out-of-body experience. I started bucking against his length, seeking out the right rhythm for maximum pleasure. Diego ripped the handcuff from the chair, his hands finding my hips. He started guiding me along, driving me into him as he drank. My head turned dizzy.

He tore away from me, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth. The high I felt as I ground against him was hot. “Your sweet cunt is so needy, grinding up against me. You want me to make you come, baby?”

  “Yes,” I rasped.

Diego tugged himself free from the handcuff with an easy jerk, his super strength making the ent
ire moment feel frantic. After a moment, he lifted me up, then easily set me on the conference table...where I worked...where my boss’s boss was sitting thirty minutes ago...fuck. This was Pornhub material. Diego tore at the slit in my skirt, then rolled up the fabric. Once he ripped my black lace panties from my body, he whispered praises over my heat. “You’re glistening for me.”

Diego dipped his head down and disappeared between my thighs. I moaned as his mouth covered my sex and he flicked his tongue over my clit. I ground against his face, moving in rhythm with Diego sucking and licking.

“I’m getting close,” my voice came out thick with need.

“Come for me,” Diego purred, slipping his fingers inside and bringing me to ecstasy.

My entire body tensed as Diego intensified his movements, allowing the waves of my orgasm to crash over me. When my muscles relaxed, he slowed the motions of his fingers and then withdrew from me.

“That was incredible,” I gasped, still out of breath from the release of pleasure. Diego wasn’t done with me yet, though.

“I’m not fucking you for the first time at your work,” he whispered.

“But that sounds like fun,” I whined.

He chuckled while stroking himself over his pants. “Soon, gorgeous.”

I don’t know if it was our emotional connection or the physical attraction, but I had never had sex like this before. Diego knew my body—every kiss, caress, and fuck was like it was designed only for me. I was ready to take this to the next level. I loved oral sex, but if we kept doing this, his lips were going to prune.

A knock on the door made me come crashing down to reality. “Drew? Are you in there? I got the photo of me with Michelle Obama. I can’t find Graham anywhere.” I leaned forward and pressed my forehead against Diego’s.

  “Who is that?” he whispered.

“My boss. She’s been acting super weird today. By the way, thanks for the heads-up that she’s some sort of fang chaser,” I chastised him. “Also, you ripped my skirt! How am I supposed to walk out of here with my skirt ripped?!”

Diego licked his lips and ran his nose along my cheek. “I’ll handle it.”

He got up and cracked open the door. “Hello, Lacey.”

I could hear Lacey choking on air as she took in the sight of my ruffled...boyfriend? Fated mate? Labels were hella complicated. “K-king Diego,” she sputtered.

I had just taken off the nipple clamps and was buttoning up my shirt when I heard Diego chuckle. “No need to bow, Lacey. Would you mind finding Drew a new skirt? We kind of got carried away.” My boss was bowing. What a surreal sucking day.

“Oh, of course. I have a spare in my office. I’ll get it right now. Do you need anything else? Blood? A car?”

“Just some privacy,” Diego replied. I pictured him winking at my boss. Cocky, flirty bastard.

“Yes, of course. Thank you so much for gracing us with your presence. I’ll go get that right now. Thank you!”

It wasn’t until I heard the door shut that I let out the breath I was holding. “That is so strange,” I said while shaking my head.

“What?” Diego asked while picking at his cufflink. Fuck, he was way too damn handsome for his own good.

“That woman is my mentor. She has her graduate degree from Harvard. She’s been in six documentaries. She’s literally the leading lady in our industry. And she becomes a bumbling idiot around vampires. Also, I hope you enjoyed the nipple clamps, because that’s never happening again.” I rubbed my thumbs over my blouse where my poor nipples were tender and throbbing.

“I did.” Diego smirked. His smile faded as he considered my words for a minute. “I’m used to it. Humans are naturally inclined to please predators. It’s a survival instinct. I suppose it’s one of the reasons I like you so much,” he replied. I wasn’t expecting him to say that.

  “What do you mean?”

Diego walked over to me before wrapping me in a hug. We smelled like sex. “We’ve designed our coven to be elite. Most of our existence is built around the fact that people want what we have. Immortality is something most people want.” I mean, sure. The whole living forever thing was damn awesome. But at what cost? Would I have to watch everyone I knew die?

Diego continued, “I’m used to people kissing my ass because I’m the king or because they want their application to become one of us approved. It’s been refreshing to be around you. Not everyone is thrilled about becoming a vampire, but the country club culture we’ve created has been grating on my nerves for the better half of the last decade. Being around you has taught me different ways we can view our lifestyle—different ways we can support people in our coven to make sure they still have a normal life. We’ve been excluding ourselves too much from the rest of the world. We need more variety.”

“I’m so happy that I could help with all of my ordinariness,” I half teased.

“That’s not what I meant, Drew. You are extraordinary. Extraordinary people come from all walks of life, and it’s confirmed my belief that we need a little bit more diversity in our world.”

I was just about to totally swoon at his words when a knock at the door stopped me, as Lacey had returned with a black pencil skirt. Diego grabbed it from her outstretched hands and shut the door before my boss could start rambling again. She was smaller than I was, so I really had to suck it in to pull it over my hips. Diego had to help me zip it and leave the top button open, but it would work for the time it would take for me to get out of the building.

I stared longingly at my favorite pink skirt, torn and on the floor as the black one bit painfully into my hips. That orgasm was worth it, but I really hoped Diego had an elite tailor that could fix it for me.

“You look great, Drew,” Lacey said dryly as Diego and I left the boardroom. Even though her words were complimentary, her tone was dark. Something was seriously weird with her today.

“Thanks, you are one skinny bitch, I could barely get your skirt on. We were going to go grab a skirt that actually fits and then have lunch,” I said, pulling on the skirt to make it more comfortable. Lacey nodded at me curtly and turned her gaze back to Diego.

She walked with us all the way to the elevator while Diego chatted politely with her, smiling and nodding in all the right places. Lacey even boarded the elevator as she soaked up every bit of attention he gave her. She was positively giddy by the time we made it to the lobby. “You know what, Drew? Why don’t you take the rest of the day off.”

I guess dating the king of the undead had its perks after all.

  Diego

“Are you seriously fidgeting right now?” Drew asked while dancing around her kitchen. I liked being at her apartment. We were back at her real apartment on Sunshine Avenue, that way we wouldn’t have to bring humans back into the compound unnecessarily. It also meant we didn’t have to explain to Yaz how a whole apartment suddenly moved buildings.

The apartment wasn’t too ostentatious and mirrored her personality. I was such a chronically uniform person that it was nice to watch her function with mismatched plates and a collection of eclectic art on her walls. However, I didn’t like the nude rendition of Chris Hemsworth in the hallway. I really needed to make that one disappear.

“I’m not fidgeting,” I argued. Okay, maybe I was a little bit.

I was a fucking king. I ate her out on a conference room desk just earlier today. I commanded the undead and my fated mate’s orgasms. But meeting her friends in any official capacity kind of intimidated me.

I didn’t really care if they liked me. My entire career was built upon not caring what people thought. But I did care about Drew. We were doing well. I was completely stunned when she reached out with our mind link today. She was finally starting to open up—and if what happened in the conference room was any indication of the direction our relationship was heading, I absosuckinglutely didn’t want to fuck it up. She wanted more. More of everything.

“There’s no need to be nervous. Yaz is a flirt, and Ryan is a ner
d. They’re like family to me.”

I was curious about seeing Ryan after what happened at the DVM. Was Drew nervous? It was somewhat a rite of passage to be a vampire and have a close call with a loved one. I hated that Graham put her in that position, though.

“Yes,” she answered my thoughts. I hadn’t even realized I was projecting them. I mentally did a fist bump at how in sync we were. “I’m nervous about seeing Ryan. I hate that I almost killed him. But I’m too selfish to let him go. We’re just going to have to have an honest conversation about what I am so that we are safe in the future. Maybe no more one on one lunch dates for the next year, at least until I know for sure that I can handle my cravings.”

“I can help you,” I rushed out. I loved having any excuse for time with Drew. “I can teach you coping skills. You’re already significantly ahead of everyone else, but maybe with a few lessons, you can feel more comfortable around him.”

“That would be great,” Drew replied before bending down to grab something out of the oven. Seeing her ass in the air made me want to rip off her sundress and fuck her on the kitchen counter. “Also. We aren’t telling Yaz, right? She’s bad at keeping secrets, and quite honestly, I don’t want her to be afraid of me. She hates all things scary. We once went to a haunted house, and she pissed herself.”

  Gross.

“I heard that,” Drew said out loud.

“Yes, we can keep it a secret from Yaz. The fewer people who know, the better.”

“Good. I told Ryan pretty early on to keep it to himself.”

There was a loud knock at the door, and I could hear muffled voices on the other side. Drew squealed and ran to the door. When she opened it, Yaz joined in with her own happy shrieks. I think I was starting to get used to all the squealing.

Ryan, Yaz, and Drew talked over each other excitedly, laughing and hugging. I stood there awkwardly watching them until Drew bounced over to me and exclaimed, “This is Diego! I’m so excited for you to finally meet him.”
