Every Other Weekend

My hands wanted one last chance to touch her before our moment came to an end. I touched her hips and felt her moving against me. She bit her bottom lip as I felt her climax. I kissed her lips and stayed there, waiting for her to kiss me back. When she did, she darted her tongue into my mouth, sending my body into a wild state of shock. So much so that as I thrust forward, I held there and grunted, feeling the undeniable urge to finish.

The surge went through my body as Jordyn cried out with pleasure into my mouth and I did the same to her. I stayed with her, inside her, gently loving her as we both came down from the heart racing high.

Our kisses grew scarce, mostly then just teasing each other by stealing one whenever we felt like it.

“I can’t believe I live here,” she whispered as I wrapped my arm around her, pulling her close.

My front to her back. My lips pressing to the middle of her shoulder blades. “Why not?”

  “It just feels… good.”

  “Yes, it does,” I said.

She laughed as I moved my hips against her. “Not only that, Rams.”

  “Oh, right.”

  “I love you.”

“I love you too, darling,” I whispered.

It took her a few minutes to fall asleep.

I snuck out of the bed and stepped into my jeans. I walked down to Sam’s room and opened the door. He was tucked in, a truck nightlight plugged in at the end of his bed, casting a few faded shadows onto the ceiling.

Last week I heard him asking Jordyn if he was supposed to call me Dad. I stopped listening because it wasn’t my business. But it humbled my heart. It would be pretty amazing to hear Sam call me Dad. Even still, Keith was his birth father and that would never change. As much as I hated that guy, I wanted him to be the father Sam needed. Their relationship would be different to ours.

“Goodnight, dude,” I whispered and shut the door.

I went downstairs, got a beer, and studied the plans for a millionth time.

I promised to wait until after the holidays to start work on the house.

It was going to be hectic, messy, and frustrating as hell. But when it was done, the house would be updated and both Jordyn and Sam would have a home. A real home. Their home. And I would just get to live there with them.

I traced my finger along the lines on the paper, picturing how it would all look. Truthfully, I was picking out all the new spots I wanted to make love to Jordyn at. I wanted her everywhere, and I wanted her forever.

She never doubted my word and never questioned my actions in the past. She trusted me and more than that, she trusted my heart. And I wasn’t even sure if I trusted my heart. The only time I did was when I looked at her and I felt it beat a little faster.

  “Hey, what are you doing?”

Jordyn had a sheet wrapped around her body as she shuffled toward me in the dining room.

  “You were sleeping, darling.”

  “So?”

“I wanted to check a few things.”

  “Check what?” she asked.

  I smiled. “I don’t know.”

  “You need sleep, Rams.”

I reached for her and slipped my hand between the sheet to touch her warm and soft skin. “You keep me up. Can’t stop thinking about us.”

“You’re getting all romantic after our bedtime fun, huh?”

“No way, darling. I’m just getting started.”

I lifted her to the dining room table, putting her right on the plans.

  “Rams…”

My fingertips tickled her skin and she squirmed. “Darling…”

“We need to get some sleep,” she said.

“That’s why we have coffee. We’ll be fine.”

She laughed and wrapped her arms around me, dropping the sheet.

I held her and stared into her eyes. “I can’t wait to marry you someday, Jordyn.”

  “Are you sure about that?”

“Oh, I’m fucking sure. I’ll never leave you standing, waiting, alone. Ever.”

“Want to know something crazy?” she asked.

  “What?”

“I believe you. I believe you with all my heart and soul.”

I kissed her lips and smiled. “Yeah, darling, that is pretty crazy.”

  Hey darlin’

Well, here we are. I’m not sure if this will be updated in the future, but right now it’s the start of 2019 and we’re right back at it together darlin’. This book was nothing short of a mess for me. Those who have followed the journey of this story know I wrote it after writing SOMEBODY ELSE. I was in a dark place at the time, feeling emotionally drained from that book. I had no intentions of writing another book … but then this happened.

For the first time in my career, I wrote a novel based on an image. When I saw the picture for this cover, I knew I needed the image and I knew I needed to write the story that was coming to me because of the image. I had been playing with an outline for a single mother novel for a while, but didn’t want to step on the heels of Dear Everly. But this story is so much different than that.

This book saved my life. This book saved my writing career. This book was supposed to be published months ago but there were several factors that kept pushing it back. I really had no idea if this book would ever get published at all.

Your support saved me darlin’ … your words, messages, emails, posts, comments, everything. You stood in my corner day after day, week after week, and month after month. You waited for this book and I truly hope it was worth the wait. Cheers to you darlin’. To this book. To this new year. To everything we’ve done together. To everything we are going to do together. You read. I write. And nothing else in life could be better. Except whiskey.

As always, feel free to email me with comments, questions, your review… or just to say HEY… JaxsonKidman@gmail.com.

AND AS PART OF THE ‘TRUE HEARTS COLLECTION’…

  EVERY OTHER WEEKEND

Every other weekend, my mom gets a break. At least that’s what she tells me. My mom has a new friend too. I’ve only met him a few times. She tells me she only sees him every other weekend. It’s nice to see her smile. She used to be sad after my dad decided he wanted to live somewhere new, by himself, and only see me every other weekend.

My mom’s new friend makes her happy. I think they want to see each other more than every other weekend. Which doesn’t bother me at all. I just want my mom happy. I’m pretty sure everything is going to be okay, like my mom always tells me.

Except now, something happened. My mom is crying again. When I ask her why, she says her new friend won’t be coming around anymore - not even every other weekend. And that my dad is sick again and he won’t see me every other weekend either. I gave her my favorite toy to make her not cry, but I don’t think it’s going to work.

My name is Sam, and I’m just a kid, and maybe this isn’t my story to tell.
