She tilted her head to the side. “Maybe.”

“Like we said in the paper, our emotions are complicated but our basic psychology, what drives us, the way we behave…”

  “Not so much,” she finished.

“Exactly. So maybe the app is just looking for patterns.”

She stopped with a sigh. “So you’re saying you and I got together because we share some compatible behaviors and psychoses?”

I laughed as I brushed some hair back from her face and cupped her face in the palm of my hands. “No. What I was trying to say—badly—was that maybe you and I were inevitable. The people we were, the people we’ve become…it’s all part of a pattern. It’s all been leading me to you, and you to me.”

Her lips parted with surprise and her eyes widened. “Dane, that’s…”

  I arched a brow. “Romantic?”

She laughed. “Yeah. That was really romantic.”

I shrugged. “What can I say? You bring out the romantic in me.”

She smiled and leaned into my touch. “And you bring out the happy in me.”

“See?” I said as I leaned in, my lips brushing over hers. “Inevitable.”
