The Iron Bound

“I’ll be done tomorrow afternoon,” Bran answered.

After a quick go around the circle, Alex confirmed their schedules. Excitement was building in her chest along with a drive to be useful until Merlin returned.

“We can leave Thursday morning then,” Aiden remarked with a smile. “Be in Spokane that afternoon, do the spell and come back via Eugene and Portland. Hopefully, by the time we’re back, Merlin will have Thor’s hammer, giving Alex a few days to practice with it and then we can break the power of the Iron Chain.”

It was a plan, a solid plan, and Alex felt the knot in her chest easing a little bit. They could be useful and protect most of their families before Merlin returned. With a little luck and a favor from Morgana, she might even let them go down to California upon their return. After all, they could be done with the northern cities by the end of the weekend.

Nodding in pleasure, she brought her sandwich up again and took another bite. It tasted no better and when she closed her eyes for a moment there was another flash of the ship hold and someone screaming. Holding in her shiver, Alex forced a smile even as an uneasy worry of just what was ahead now crept through her. It would be alright she promised herself, she and her friends would see that where their families lived was safe, and Merlin would bring her the Iron Hammer. She was the Iron Soul, and she had all of them. As long as she had them, then she could deal with this and they would find a way to stop Arthur and Scáthbás. She had to keep believing that, no matter what Arthur tried next.
