Training a Wife

Beth turned to Lucas. “You asked me to give them a chance. I’ve listened and if it is at all possible, I’m even more furious then I was before. I’m going to my room now because I need to lie down. You deal with them, because I’m done.” Beth stormed out of the room, ignoring all of them and heading for her sanctuary.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she closed the door behind her and leaned against it. She knew her emotions were all over the place, but what Dred did felt so much like betrayal that her heart actually hurt not to mention that Edward had totally ignored her. The love letters were not his. She flipped the switch to open the outer wall, exposing her bedroom. Beth was on autopilot, crawling onto the bed. The air in the room still smelled of her mother as Beth curled up around the pillow that her mother had laid on the night before she was killed.
“I sure could use a hug now, Momma,” she whispered and stiffened when Beth heard her door open. “Go away,” she said as she buried her face into the pillow, knowing it was Dred. The bed dipped and he curled up behind her. His arms embraced her, as he hugged her tight.
“I did nothing, Beth, I swear. Being in the same room with her made me sick, but I had to inform her that she was released from that contract my parents had made with her a long time ago.” Dred turned her around and sighed. “Don’t cry, baby. Don’t you know how important you are to me?” He wiped the tears away and kissed each eyelid. “I’ve called my parents and told them to go home. If they can’t accept you, then they don’t need to be here. Edward has agreed it would be for the best.” He brushed her hair out of her face.
“What is the test, Dred?” she asked and noticed him flinch.
“Don’t worry about it Beth. We’ve all agreed you will not be taking it.” Dred looked towards the door and she followed his gaze to see Edward at the end of the bed.
“We are married, you have been claimed in front of the pack and you carry our children. There will be no other tests. You have been put through enough.” He held up his hand with one of the letters in it. “I know who wrote these and I’ll deal with them later, and I do have a few men watching him.” The letter burst into flames.
“It’s not happening, Edward. Remember you guys have stopped taking me together once you found out I was carrying a child. Plus, I have no desire to be with you two right now. Just because you both have excuses for what happened, you don’t have one for not touching or talking to me the last month.” She rolled over and curled up around the pillow. “At least with the letters there was something,” Beth mumbled into the pillow.
Once again the bed dipped and she sighed. “Can’t you just leave me alone?” Beth glanced at Edward as he lay down in front of her.
“No, and it hasn’t been a month. Has it?” he asked as he looked over at Dred.
“Yes, it has. The last time you touched me was at breakfast when one of your men stared at me too long. Now go away. I’ll take a nap and finish what I was going to do later on.”
“I spoke with the doctor before coming in here.” He reached down and cupped her breast, his thumb rubbing over her nipple. “As long as we are careful, the doctor said we can resume our activities.”
“And you think that will change the fact that you two totally acted like I didn’t exist? I counted on you, Edward, even if was just for reassurance, but you weren’t there. Even when I had my first ultrasound, I believed you would be there, but you weren’t. I needed you two weeks ago when it was the fifth anniversary of my parents’ death. Didn’t you even miss me that night when we were gone? Or did you not notice it? You know something, forget it all. It doesn’t matter. You taught me one thing Edward. To depend more on myself.” She stared into his dark eyes.
“I love you, but I was wrong to expect you to be there. It won’t happen again.” She closed her eyes. “Go to sleep, Edward. I know for a fact you haven’t slept that much lately,” she mumbled, getting comfortable and ignoring the sexual desires that were stirring inside her.
* * *
Her breathing evened out as Edward watched his woman. He had no idea where to start to repair the damage they had done to their relationship. Lucas was right. She had pulled back into herself again and Edward could only blame himself. He rolled over and stared up at the ceiling.
“We’ve fucked up big time. Any idea how we get back her trust?” Dred asked telepathically.
“For now, just be there for her. Time and patience. Her emotions are all over the place, she’s been locked up in the castle, she can’t go outside and she’s going to need us all,” Lucas said.
“I can hear you in my head and I’m trying to sleep here. Edward, Dred, it will take time, but I can’t promise the trust that we had will come back. I’m not going anywhere either so there is time. Now go to sleep.” She reached over and patted his chest. “Oh, and tell Rock I like my meat well done. Last time I saw blood and it made me sick.”
Edward rolled towards her. “There are no words I can say to make up for what I’ve done. I haven’t been there for you when I should have been, but I can promise I will try harder. I guess I’m not as perfect as everyone thinks I am,” he muttered and she laughed, opening her eyes.
“You perfect? Who said that?” she teased and shook her head. “Tell you what, since it’s obvious I’m not going to sleep, why don’t we go over the spell book and then we can go upstairs for dinner. Maybe we can have a picnic on the sun porch? It’s enclosed. Plus, this whole place is protected.”
She was willing to start anew, but was it safe to go outside? “Lucas?”
The bedroom door opened and Lucas came into the room. “What exactly do you hope to do with the book? I want honesty, Beth. You are keeping something from us,” Lucas said crossing his arms as he stood at the edge of the bed.
With a sigh, Beth sat up and hugged the pillow. “I want you to promise not to yell and to allow me to finish what I’m going to say. I don’t think it will be dangerous if I’m in my father’s office. It’s the strongest place I know that is shielded.” She looked at him, then at Dred.
“Why do I get the feeling I’m going to really hate this?” Dred grumbled but nodded his head. “OK, agreed.”
She turned and looked at him.
“Of course I’ll hear you out, but don’t get angry if we say no,” Edward sat up and nodded. “Go on, tell us.”
“When my folks threw my brother out, they knew he would be able to see into our lives. Knowing where we were, what we were going to do, Dad had to come up with something to protect me from him. If my brother knew where I was in school, or when I was alone, he could have done something. So my father worked for a week in his office to create a spell that would break the blood bond. I want to use it for your brother, Lucas. It would break the connection he has on me, but before I do that, I would like to try and reverse this connection.”
“What do you mean by reverse the connection? What exactly do you want to do?” Edward stood and stretched.
“I want to try and connect with Lucas’ brother without him knowing. To see if I can spot where they are, or what they are planning. If he can connect with me, I should be able to do the same,” Beth said, holding her head up and waiting for their reaction.
“Lucas, could your brother harm her if she did this? Is there any danger to the babies?” Edward asked and held out his hand to Beth.
She looked at him, then at his hand, sighing. “There shouldn’t be any danger to the babies, but then again, I know nothing of Lucas brother and what he can do. For that matter, I know little about what you can really do Lucas.” She looked at him and he laughed.
“All you have to do is ask. As for my brother and the danger to the babies, no, there won’t be. But the thought of you roaming around in his head is just plain scary.” Lucas frowned. “Okay what else Beth. You can’t just spit half of it out. We’re all here to help.” Lucas stated.
She sighed. “You know having you read me like that is a real pain in the ass.” She turned and looked at Edward. “I’m going to need
all of your help at the end, but especially yours. You are now connected to this house as I stated before. You have all the knowledge from my father up here.” She reached up and touched the side of his head.
“When I go in, it will be up to you to actually pull me back and say the spell when we find it. It takes a lot of energy to do what I’m going to do. I’m going to need you four to help bring me back and keep him from following me back here. He’s going to know I’m there when I start to retreat.” She looked down at the ground, her shoulders tense as if waiting for him to explode.
He placed his hand under her chin and applied a little pressure. “Look at me, Little Witch.” He waited till she was staring up at him. “Have I ever yelled at you? Because right now you’re acting like you’re waiting for an explosion.”
She peeked at Dred and he groaned. “I do not yell. I might growl a little, but Beth I would never yell. I don’t need to, do I?” Dred asked as he stepped behind her and nipped her shoulder.
“No, you never have yelled at me.” She leaned back against Dred and looked up at him. “Can we do this together? I really think it will help us. He won’t know what I’ve seen, so we’ll still have the advantage. There’s also the fact that I’ll be able to look deeper into his mind to see what he has planned, if I do it right.”
“I don’t like the idea of you snooping around my brother’s head. Who knows what he’s done?” Lucas said, and looked at Edward. “How are you on this? You’re the one who is going to have to go in and bring her back all the while saying the words when she is clear.”
Edward guided them all into the office where Rock was waiting for them. “I don’t like it one bit, but we haven’t had any breaks yet since the last attack in New York. The fact that I’m actually using my wife really pisses me off, but do we have a choice? Even you haven’t been able to help find your brother and your parents won’t get in between even though they have forbidden him from harming Beth and the babies. Do you think your brother will listen to your father’s decree?” Edward said, holding out his hands waiting for the book to come to him.
“Yes and no. He’ll have someone else do his deed. From what Nail has informed me, my brother has been busy everywhere and my parents are trying to fix some of his past mistakes. But I’m afraid even they won’t be able to stop the Dizoolexa, if it’s ordered.” Lucas sat down on the couch next to Dred who had Beth on his lap.
“Okay, I’ve got to ask, What is a Dizoolexa and will it help us?” Edward leaned against the desk holding the book as it flipped the pages, knowing what he needed.
“There are a total of 16 planets that you could call supreme with what you Earth people would say are God-like people. Their knowledge and power are far beyond even mine. They control the planets more or less. If something or someone it threatening the major flow of the universe, this Dizoolexa can be ordered.” Lucas frowned and leaned his elbows on his knees, looking at him. “Even though I want my brother stopped, I would not want this on him or anyone. When this is called upon, you are not only killed, but there is no way to be reborn somewhere else. In other words, this creature eats your spirit or soul. From what I’ve heard, no one has escaped it.”
“Has this thing killed anyone else in the process? If it’s that dangerous, should it be allowed to roam?” Dred asked.
“This thing as we call it because no one knows of its origin is quite rational and can speak. When the death hit is called, the governing body gets word to this thing. They’ve only called on it three times in the past 6,000 years. To answer your question, Dred, no. Of course I’m sure if it was attacked, like anyone of us, it would protect itself but it’s never taken an innocent life.”
“So when we die our spirit or soul moves on to another world out there?” Beth asked, staring at Lucas.
“Yes, you are reborn somewhere else. From what Edward has told me, it was time for your parents to go, but they stayed as long as they could to protect you, Little Witch. Their love for you was strong enough to reach through from the other side.” Lucas reached over and squeezed her knee.
“I’ve looked over your father’s words, Little Witch, but I need some guidance here. There are a few passages I don’t understand.” Edward made room for Beth as she stepped in between him and the book, looking down at the pages. Her body almost had a glow around it.
“Pay attention to the spell, Edward, not my body,” she laughed and elbowed him.
“Whose body, Little Witch?” he whispered in her ear before nipping it.
“Fine yours, theirs. Now stop it. I really want this done, Edward. The thought of him watching us make love…” She rubbed her hands up and down her arms as she trembled.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” Edward placed a kiss on her neck and nodded. “This right here.” He pointed to the second to the last paragraph changing the subject, knowing Beth was once more on the verge of breaking into tears. He looked up to see Lucas’ angry face staring at them. All of them felt violated, but they all knew it was hardest on her.
Chapter Four
Sitting between Lucas and Edward on the couch, Beth squeezed both of their hands, while in front of her Dred and Rock sat on the floor, each one of them touching her, connecting with her and ready to loan her their strength at the end. She knew they all had their doubts. Hell, even Beth had them, but this needed to be done if they were going to put an end to the attacks and threats on their lives.
It was like finding a needle in a haystack, but after a few moments, Beth found the connection to Lucas’ brother and carefully followed it back to the original source. At first the journey had her feeling like she was on the twister ride at a carnival, but slowly the spinning stopped and Beth entered his brain. At once she was hit with information overload and some of it made her skin crawl. But before she delved into all the information, Beth wanted to know where they were. Once more Beth moved forward, deeper into his mind, and absorbed the man’s surroundings.
Nothing looked right. There were orange plants, blue grass and strange people surrounding him, but the one person that did stand out was her old friend Nora. She sat across from him, naked on the table, as he watched two strange creatures touch and lick her body with their tongues as she squirmed on the table. Jerking her eyes away from that, Beth took in the surroundings knowing she would have to show Lucas where they were, because it was obvious she wouldn’t know where they were.
When she absorbed everything she could, Beth turned her attention back to the plans he had for Lucas and her. Oh, he didn’t just want to destroy Lucas. He wanted to make Beth a slave to his sick sexual fantasies. As soon as Beth could, she started sending information back to her men who waited for her. After a while, it seemed that mental doors were starting to close around her and Beth panicked, inching back the way she’d come, giving her men the signal to pull her back, but it wasn’t soon enough.
“Do you really think I’d allow you to leave without some kind of punishment? That you are here in my head amazes me. Your power will be greatly appreciated by my side. Our children will be powerful, but for now, you will not carry their children.”
At once she added extra protection to her babies, but it didn’t do a thing. All she could do was scream, tears rolling down her face as her men yanked her back, but it was too late. The pain, both emotional and physical, was too much. Even though she was only two months along, Beth had connected with her babies, but now that bond was gone. She was back in her body, but she refused to open her eyes knowing she was being transported back to the castle and their private rooms.
“Talk to us, Beth. What’s going on? What did my brother do?” Lucas’ voice was frantic and made her open her eyes and stare at him. “He took our babies,” she cried as the two doctors that had been called in to take care of her pushed her men away from the bed and started to work on her.
It was as if she was in a nightmare, watching from the outside. One doctor was between her legs and she knew he was now performing a D and C on her, removing her dead children
which only made her heart break more. Looking behind the bed, her men stood and she flinched, seeing the anger on both Dred and Rock’s faces. Never had they looked at her like that before and Beth knew the damage to their relationship was big.
Not only had she lost her children, but from the looks of things, Beth might have lost her wolves. “Dred, Rock,” she whispered and held out her hand for them, but not one of them moved forward. Dred spun around and left the room while Rock stood there staring at her, his gaze accusing. “I’m sorry I didn’t know he could this. I’m so sorry.” She closed her eyes and felt the bed dip and her body was covered with a blanket after a thick dressing had been put in place.
“We know it’s not your fault, but it will take them time to come to terms with this, Little Witch. We should have known he was stronger, but we didn’t. I’m just grateful you are still with us.” Edward leaned down and kissed the top of her head as Lucas crawled up onto the other side of the bed.
“She needs to rest for the next few days. It was quick whatever was done to her. She’ll be able to have other children, but I would wait at least a couple of days for her to heal inside.” One of the doctors said as Lucas pulled her close to his body.
Both he and Edward held her tight as Rock stood at the edge of the bed and nodded to the doctor’s. “Rock?” she whispered. “I really didn’t know.” She pleaded and he finally nodded.
“I know, Beth, but it still does not change the fact that you shouldn’t have done this at all. When our women are pregnant, the first and the most important thing is her health and safety. Nothing else matters, but you…this should not have happened. I have to find Dred.” He spun around and ran from the room.
“I’ve lost them, haven’t I?” A knot formed in her throat and her heart. Her eyesight was blurry from tears. Her family was falling apart and there was nothing she could do. Beth ran her hand over her stomach and the empty space in her body, shivering.
