The Alpha's Assassin Page 6

by Rain Itika

Before Mary could walk away, Lara shook her leg, letting the noise of the chain be heard.

Mary looked down with a shock, her mouth agape, "My grandson locked you up. The future Luna of this pack." Her eyes glazed black, but something in her face made Lara more scared of her than Roland.

Trying to change the mood, Lara said, "Well technically I did try to kill him. What is a Luna?"

Those words drew Mary back to normal, "I, uh, I think Roland should explain. Let us just focus on getting those horrible things off of you." She was back to being the smiling old lady.

She left the room to go get help, leaving Lara with her thoughts. So, Mary was his grandmother and not his mother. She wondered if his whole family lived here.

"Why would he do this?" Mary demanded angrily as she stepped back into the room with a man following. The same man who she had used to try and escape.

"It was the Alpha's orders." He explained, looking down at his feet, ashamed.

"I do not care. You will unlock this girl now. Or should I give you the same beating as when you were a child, boy." She put emphasis on the last word, to show him she is his elder.

Without saying a word, he bent down in front of Lara, produced a key and unlocked it. She was finally able to move freely.

"What if she tries to run away, or hurt the Alpha?" He asked.

"Nonsense, she would not try to do that." Mary looked at her, waiting for a reply.

"Of course not." She answered, telling the truth for now. She had to find a car before she could escape, and playing the innocent party will help her achieve it.

Mary clapped her hands, "There you go, satisfied. Now let us go have some breakfast. I made waffles."

Lara stood up, about to follow her when the man grabbed her arm, keeping her behind.

"I will keep a close eye on you. She might trust you, but I do not."

  "Whatever floats your boat, Mr..."

  "Mark."

"Whatever floats your boat, Mark." She said with an innocent smile and pulled her arm out of his grasp. Without looking back, she followed Mary down the stairs into the kitchen. Every time she sees it, the beauty just amazes her.

"Sit down, love. I'll just grab you a plate. " Mary points at an open chair.

As she waited, she looked around, now that she had the time. The center island where she was sitting looked like a black marble with eight chairs around. The whole place looked modern, suited for a big family.

"Is there anyone else here, or is it just us?" Lara asked.

As Mary placed a massive portion of waffles in front of her, she replied, "The pack lives here, about thirty of them, but Roland had sent them away for a couple of days. Most likely to get to know his Luna better." She winked at her.

The comment made her blush, feeling like Mary knew what had happened in the woods yesterday. She took a big bite out of the waffles to hide her face.

"Wow. This is delicious." She said, with her mouth still full.

  Mary just laughed.

As she was eating, her mind wandered back to Roland. Wondering if he was still upset. For reasons unknown to her, she was worried about him. She knew she had to get out soon before she did not want to.

"What the fuck is going on here?"

Lara turned around to look at who was shouting but came face to face with his black eyes and furious expression.

Well, that at least answers one question.

  CHAPTER 16

The shouting was heard all around the house. It echoed throughout the empty rooms, leaving one to wonder what was being said. Lara tried to focus, but her hearing was not that of a wolf. Mark, on the other hand, was able to hear as he was chuckling from time to time.

"What are they saying?" She curiously asked.

With a smile, he answered, "Just that even though he is the Alpha, she will pull him over her legs and give him a spanking."

She laughed. The idea of the big man hunched over the old lady, allowing her to beat him, was just plain hilarious.

She kept up the smile and started eating again. She felt Mark's eyes bore into her sides, making her feel uncomfortable. After a couple of seconds, it started to really piss her off. She turned and look him straight in the eyes.

"Can I help you with something?" She demanded.

He kept quiet for a while until "What are you?"

She was taken aback by what he said, "What do you mean?"

"You have to understand. Humans and wolf have different scents, in fact, all magical creatures have different scents, so it is easy to tell them apart, but you are different. Your scent is a mix of wolf and human."

She did not know what was more shocking. The fact that there were other creatures in the world or that she smelled like a wolf.

"How is that possible?" She questioned.

"It is unheard of. The only thing that can mask or even change a scent is witches' blood."

She thought about what he said.

"So, what exactly are you trying to say?"

He stood up and walked up to her, stopping right next to her. He bent down and whispered in her ear, "I am saying that I know you are using magic to fool my Alpha, and I will not accept it. So, I am warning you, when the truth comes out, I will be the first in line to kill you."

His remark shocked her, unable to answer him before he walked off. He left her all alone, thinking about what he had said.

She was taken aback by it that her appetite vanished the same time he left. She pushed the plate away, got up, and went to the living room, sitting on one of the couches.

Her mind was twirling with information. In a matter of days, her life was thrown upside down. First, she failed to kill a mark, and then he kidnapped her. Secondly, it was the fact that life as she knows it was a lie. Supernaturals existed, and they were keeping her hostage for reasons unknown to her. Thirdly, she was being accused of witchcraft; a species she did not even know were real.

She was so caught up in her own mind that she did not even register the shouting had stopped.

Hands closed over her shoulder, making her instinct kick in. Without a second thought, she grabbed the left side, twirled around underneath it while twisting the arm, forcing the person to cry out in pain.

She saw who it was and immediately let go.

Roland looked at her, amused, rubbing his pained arm.

"Remind me not to get on your bad side." He joked.

  "Too late, you already are."

He smiled at her, "I have a way to make up for it. How about shopping?"

She looked at him, shocked, thinking he was having a stroke.

  "Shopping? Outside."

"Well, yes, you need clothes since you will be staying here. And before you get any ideas, the town is part of the pack territory, so everyone is a wolf."

Her hopes faltered, and trying not to show him, she peeked down at the clothes she was wearing, "You want me to go like this?"

"Yes." He said while walking around the couch and stopping next to her. "My scent is all over it and will inform any unmated wolves that you are mine."

He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her tight against him as he pressed his face into her neck, taking a deep breath. The action made her shiver, the contact sending sparks all over her body. She marveled in the feeling of it for a second and then pushed away from him.

"Fine, then let us go, so I can get out of this stinking clothes sooner." She walked over to the door, hearing a growl behind her. She refused to acknowledge him, keeping her back to him.

The ride was awkward, not a single word spoken. Lara was kind of glad since she could use the time memorizing the way out of this place. She had a day, as little as mere hours before the illness reared its head, and without the injection, she would die a horrible and painful death.

The town was small from what she could see. It had only one main street about 2 miles long, and no traffic light. Small shops lined on both sides, ranging from hardware to grocery stores.

Roland noticed she was fascinated about the town, so he gave her more information. "The town was founded about 50 years ago by my grandfather, but before that, it was the pack land. Still is. We have around 200 wolves from my pack living in town and a couple more in the city."

She was intrigued, "So you own the land."

"No, only where the packhouse is. This land belongs to the pack, and whoever is in charge at the moment, which is me. When the power shifts, so do the land."

"So, what about your business, or was that also a lie my employers told me?"

"That is the only correct part. I started the business when I was young and build it into the shipping empire it is now. All the wolves in the city work for my company. They are in charge of running it when I am not around."

She would never mention it, but she was impressed. Roland was only 28 and already a millionaire in his own right.

They stopped in front of a small shop with mannequins displayed in the window. As they got out, she noticed everybody bending their head towards Roland, a sign of respect. In her case, people were staring and whispers floating around. Being a wolf, they probably smelled a human, and they did not like it. Roland also seemed to not like it because he grabbed her by the waist again and pulled her into him. Showing his pack that she was his.

He let her inside. The first thing she noticed was a head full of pink. The lady had on a full brown skirt and a white tank top. The pink hair was in a messy bun, and the whole look reminded Lara of a free spirit.

"Aaahhhh, Alpha." She said out loud, almost a scream. "What a great surprise to see you. Mary already ran out of wool?"

His face lit up in a real smile, the one you give to family and close friends. He gave the lady a hug.

"No, Tiffany. I am here to buy some clothes for Lara." He pointed at her.

"So the rumors are true. We finally have a Luna." Tiffany's eyes sparkled with joy. "It is about time someone tames this wild beast. My name is Tiffany and welcome to my shop."

She extended out her hand and Lara shook it. "Nice to meet you, my name is Lara."

After all the greetings were done, Roland ushered them to the back, picking up clothes as they went. He pushed Lara into the fitting room, dumping the clothes on a table.

"I will be waiting right outside."

She gave him a sarcastic smile before closing the curtain, making sure there was no way he could see her. As she was trying on the clothes, she thought back to the conversations she had with Mark.

"Roland, can I ask you a question?"

"Depends on the question." She heard his voice right outside.

  "Why am I here?"

  "Because you need clothes."

  "You know what I mean."

He kept silent for a moment before answering, "As a wolf, we have certain traditions and believes. One of them is mates. Mates are, what your people would call it, soulmates. Our other halves. When you find yours, you are complete. It will only happen ones in a lifetime, and when one dies, the other will follow not soon after."

"You called me mate the first time we met, is that what you meant."

Again he went quiet before answering, "Yes, you will know when someone is your mate when you look into their eyes. When I looked into your eyes that first night, I knew you belonged to me."

"But what if I do not feel the same way. Would you force me to stay? Against my will." She hesitantly asked, afraid he will freak out again.

"Why are you lying." His word came out louder like he was standing right behind her. She turned around and slammed right into his chest. She was going to fall, but he grabbed her by the arm, keeping her secure.

She stared up at him, her breathing shallow.

"You know I am a wolf, which means my senses are heightened. I can hear every heartbeat," he whispered as he ran his fingers over her chest, " I can smell everything."

Being so close to him made her body work overtime. She could feel herself straightening up, pushing out her breasts as if trying to get him to touch them. Her panties were already soaked, and he was not even touching her.

"I am not." She muttered, her mind all over the place.

He gave a small chuckle, "Are you sure."

He lightly brushed her bottom lip, his gaze fixed on them. She automatically opened them wider, Roland not needing another invitation. He bent down and pressed their lips together. It started slowly as Lara got into it. Both of their hunger came bursting thru and they could not get enough.

It was getting rough. Hands were tangled in hair as he lifted up her ass, forcing her to wrap her legs around his waist.

She gasped as she felt his bulge pressing into her soft part. She was eager to try him.

A soft cough brought them to a halt. They both turned to look at Tiffany, who at the moment was looking redder than a tomato.

"I am so sorry to interrupt. I was just checking if everything was going alright." She explained.

"Everything is going great." Roland replied.

As Tiffany walked away, he looked back at Lara, his eyes black again. She ran her fingers over them.

"Why does it turn black like that sometimes."

"Whenever our emotions are running high. Anger, happiness, jealousy, sadness or arousal." He emphasized the last word, making her melt.

Using all of his willpower, he put Lara back down and stepped back.

"So, I ask you again. Are you lying?"

  CHAPTER 17

The drive back to the house was relaxed. Lara was happy. She had some new clothes to wear, and she had gotten closer to Roland. A smile crossed her face when she thought about the moment they had shared in the fitting room. The hot and personal moment.

"What are you thinking about?" Roland intruded her silent moment.

She turned to face him and was taken aback by his beauty. She has known him now for a while, but every time she looks at him, she almost falls in love with him again.

She cleared her throat, knowing the conversation that is to follow will not be an easy one.

"So, let me get this straight. I am your soulmate, your other half. How sure are you about that?"

"From the moment I looked into your beautiful eyes, I knew. It felt like I was taking my first real breath since being born."

He took her hand and squeezed it, trying to show her how he felt. It made her uncomfortable, so she pulled it away.

"Does that mean you care about me, about my health?"

"What is the problem?" He glanced at her sideways. His wolf alerting him to the fact that the conversation was getting personal. The road ahead was empty, so he gave most of his attention to her.

She thought about how to tell him for a moment before replying, "I need to leave. I have a rare blood disease, and if I do not get my medication, I will die. The only place I can get it is at the company."

The car suddenly swerved to the side before coming to a stop. Roland's hands tighten on the wheel, trying to keep his emotions under check.

"What do you mean." He asked, staring blankly ahead.

"I am dying. I need my injection every c
ouple of days. I took one right before you found me. Time is running out. Please." She begged him, hoping he would believe her.

He did not reply, and it made her uncomfortable, so she turned away to look outside. All around them were the woods. Only nature for miles.

She was shocked when Roland grabbed her neck and pulled her to him and before she could say anything, he pushed his face into her and took a deep breath. She froze for a minute, not knowing what to do.

"I do not smell anything." his grip lessened and as he pulled back, she noticed his eyes shifting from black to green.

"What do you mean?" she was confused.

"A wolf's sense of smell is heightened, and because of that, some of our kind become doctors to humans. We can detect illnesses by just smelling them. Same for other wolves."

She pushed him away and he let her, "I am sorry, but I am not going to take the word of some guy who just smelled me to tell me I am not sick. I have lived with this since I was young, and I know how it feels when the symptoms start."

"I am sorry. I cannot let you leave. You might not trust me, but I believe in my ability. We can let Mary do a check-up back at the house."

"Are you fucking kidding me. I am telling the truth." anger spiked as he spoke.

"I cannot risk you leaving the packhouse. I have other enemies outside these lands, and if they know who you are, they will use you to get to me."

She was furious. First, he said she was his mate, and now she is telling him her death is imminent, and he still refuses to listen.

"So, you would let me die instead of listening to me?" She questioned, her voice starting to rise.

"You are my mate, and I will do anything to protect you, but I cannot let you leave." He replied. With a final regretful glance to her, Roland checked the side mirrors for any traffic.

His words broke the seal on her anger, but before she could act on it, the car shot away. The sudden speed pushing her deep into the seat.

"Are you trying to kill us. I am a human, remember. I cannot heal as fast as you can." she screamed over the engine noise.
