The Artist's Alchemy
Page 17
I clapped, and my sisters joined in. Cora went on to read a dozen more cards, and they were very similar to the first. They were submitted by artists and scientists alike, and they all expressed the same appreciative sentiment.
“The weekend was a hit!” Annie said happily after Cora finished reading the last card. She held up her cup of tea. “I propose a toast! I know that the Artist’s Alchemy weekend wasn’t easy, for any of us—” she looked pointedly at me, and so did my witch sisters, “yet I do feel that some deep healing occurred—on many levels. And after all, that’s what the center is for, isn’t it, Marley? To promote deep healing, and the excavation of magic within?”
“I couldn’t have said it better myself,” I said. We clinked glasses. I sipped the chamomile tea, and then set my mug down and lifted my hands with excitement. “Oh! I almost forgot! I got a postcard from Asti in the mail!”
“A postcard in your Earth mailbox?” Penny said, scrunching up her nose. “Why would she use Earth Realm postal service; she’s from the Spirit Realm, isn’t she?”
I grinned as I pulled out the postcard. It had a picture of a lighthouse on it, surrounded by a coastal scene.
“She and Robert Elgin—well, the ghost of Robert Elgin, technically—decided to stay in the Earth Realm for a little while. They rented an RV and they’re touring the states. Looks like this one is from Maine.”
I examined the front of the card for a minute. Curly-cue script along the top said, “Sending Greetings from Belliford, Maine!”
“They rented an RV... together?” Cora said, raising her brows.
“I hope Robert doesn’t try to curse her again!” Azure said.
“They’re on good terms now,” I explained. “I showed Asti how to see the non-physical. I figured I owed it to her, since she taught me so much. Once she could see and hear Robert, they were able to have a really good discussion. I think they moved past a lot of the hurt and pain that was keeping them apart. They forgave each other, and decided that a little road trip was just what they needed. I think they’re even thinking of working on some projects together, for a change.”
Annie clapped. “Oh, goodie! Art and science... finally getting along. It will be fun to see what they can brew up!” she said.
I had to agree.
“What’s the card say?” Penny asked, right before stealing another bite of my pie.
This time I didn’t bother defending my plate. I was curious about Asti’s message. I read it aloud. “You said that you weren’t sure what your art form was, and darling, I have news for you. I’ve felt so good since my stay at your center. It’s called the healing arts for a reason, dear. You’re a healer. I hope you let your light shine.”
As I read these words, I felt my dreamcatcher necklace begin to heat up. The warm metal next to my heart reminded me of the thin veil that separated the world I could see and feel, from the spirit world beyond.
I looked around at my friends, and I knew that I was right where I wanted—and needed—to be.
