Thank you for not only reading this story but our Author Notes in the back as well!

I really don’t have much to say about drinking, neither stopping and starting again nor hoary tales of stupidity during college days.

I have a cool story of a friend who was so drunk (and hungry) that when he wanted food as the party went into the wee hours of the morning, he got a fish from the aquarium and downed it.

While he admits he doesn’t remember doing that, there was a missing fish the next day.

Speaking of drinking stories, I remember one—during college, we played a game of quarters. Basically, take a quarter and bounce it off the table. If it goes in, you tag someone to drink. If it fails, you take a drink.

I only drank Coke at the time, so they didn’t pick me often to drink. I think they hoped I would get stupid and decide to drink due to peer pressure. My secret defense is my taste buds.

I wouldn’t try to eat food I didn’t like to impress a date, so I sure as hell wasn’t going to drink alcohol to impress three buddies who are already having problems sitting down.

One of them was so blitzed, I remember him taking an old cheese grater (the kind with four sides for four different types of grating) and eyeing it. This is during the time of acid-washed and ripped jeans (back in the 1980s, not the present incarnation), and he looked at that grater and then down at his leg.

I was confused. I was not accustomed to being around blitzed young people and their antics, so it came as a total shock when he RUBBED IT ACROSS HIS FOREHEAD.

  I’m staring, open-mouthed at him. He’s staring at the table…pause…wait for it…

  OWWWWW!!!

He reaches up and grabs his forehead, wincing in pain. I’m shocked his forehead doesn’t look like hamburger. It was just red, no blood.

  Thank God.

That game supported my decision to not forsake taste to drink a lot and do stupid things.

So, if you drink, make sure your Kindle is nearby, so when you wake up, the worst thing you might have done is purchase ALL the books in your To Be Read list.

Eventually, you will read yourself out of that mistake!

  Peace!
