I Will Fight No More Forever

Pete Singer dismounted as ten federal agents flowed from the building—guns pointing and ready to fire. “That’s where you’re wrong. The FBI has jurisdiction over all reservations. As an officer of the state, you should know that.”

The senator sputtered and waved his hands. “You have no right!”

The agents smoothly picked up the weapons littering the ground and handcuffed the men. Sam watched them walk around the building to where she saw a prison bus waiting. Pete gave them a small salute as he climbed into his government issued sedan.

“That’s more like it.” Sam grabbed Henry’s hand and squeezed as the Indians began to disperse.

Thomas and White Cloud approached—Thomas with a glint in his eye. He winked at Sam then pulled on his horse’s reins and galloped away.

“I’ve been wanting to do that all my life.” White Cloud dismounted. “Sometimes an Indian’s just gotta do what an Indian’s gotta do.”

Sam gaped at him. “I never heard you talk like that before.”

“It certainly was effective.” Henry slapped the Native American on his shoulder.

“What did it feel like, making an entrance like that?” Sam asked.

White Cloud grinned. “I now know how Sitting Bull felt when he surrounded Custer.”

Sam’s mouth dropped open. “I never saw you smile like that before, either.”

  About This Book

The title of this book, “I will fight no more forever” is a quote attributed to a speech given by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe as the last few remaining followers surrendered before they were able to reach sanctuary in Canada. Since he did not speak English, whether this was Joseph’s message is debated among historians, but I thought it fitting to use in the book.

If you are interested in learning more about the Nez Perce of Oregon, there is a book titled, “The Last Indian War, The Nez Perce Story” written by Elliot West and published by Oxford University Press. It is available on Amazon.

  About The Author

You may wonder why EB Corbin is the pen name for Edana Corbin. Read on for the (not so) spellbinding (?!) story…

I once read that you need an easy to remember author’s name. My first name “Edana” is not only difficult to remember, it’s difficult to spell and almost impossible to pronounce correctly without instructions (say Ee-donna). It often gets confused with Edna which causes me to cringe—not that there’s anything wrong with Edna, it’s just NOT my name.

So, when kicking around a name to use on my first published novel, I came up with EB Corbin. The E for my first name and the B for Bob, my husband who’s given me tremendous input from page one. I specifically left off the periods after the initials so as not to be confused with E.B. White — I neither write for The New Yorker nor about spiders. And I most definitely do not pretend to be an expert on the Elements of Style.

Anyway, that’s the tale of how EB Corbin came to be. I hope you enjoyed this book and if you get a chance, please try the Roxanne Boudreaux trilogy, which is currently available on Amazon both for Kindle and in paperback.

  Author’s Note

It should be noted that the author does not identify as Native American. Given this, the author is speaking as an outsider on certain issues.

Acknowledging the long history, oppressive policies and other institutional forms of cultural destruction wrought by colonization that continues to this day, the author has tried to maintain the highest level of respect and reverence for the Tribes of Oregon.

Although this is a work of fiction, the author apologizes for any insensitivity or offense caused by this book. Any mistakes and/or nonchalance were not intentional.

Thanks so much for reading about Sam and Henry. I’d love to hear from you. You can leave a review on Amazon or contact me on my website (you can also sign up for my mailing list) at www.ebcorbinbooks.com I promise I won’t spam you or inundate you with emails. I will let you know when the next book in this series is available and perhaps talk a little about my life since I moved to Ecuador.
