“Ugh, can I take a sick day? I just prevented my massive black hole from absorbing everyone’s powers and trapped the Cold Soul.” I watched her shift the laundry basket to her other arm, full of the clean clothes that had been stained with blue blood from Saturday. I panicked as she reached for the closet door. “Hey, never mind. I’ll wear that to school today. No need to put it away.”
She spun to look at me, her eyes narrowed. “I thought you wanted a sick day?” She sighed and shook her head. “Nathaniel Beckett, where is that girl hiding?”
Clara fell out of the closet behind her, tripping before catching her balance on the wall. She leaned against it like nothing was wrong. “Hi there, Angie. Nice morning,” she said sweetly.
My mom was not amused. “Clara, you have a concussion. And you shouldn’t be here anyway.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Clara replied. “I’m perfectly fine, and as far as you know, I just got here.”
Yup. Finnley-level psycho. Clara shot me a look as my mom dropped the clothes basket on my desk.
“Ellie is going to kill you,” she sighed, shaking her head as she walked out the door. Clara closed it behind her and cheered silently.
“You’re out of your mind,” I laughed as she jumped back into bed.
“I know, and you’re stuck with this Finnley-level psycho. Now tell me…” Clara said, holding her face just inches from mine. “Do you think this concussion matches my explosive supernova power?”
I snagged her collar and pulled her into my kiss before leaning my chin back just enough to speak. “I think it complements my black hole power perfectly.”
I barely finished the sentence before she pushed me back down to the bed. I heard the speaker click on.
