On The Right Side Page 31

by Tom Sears

Maybe he finally quit because of the 4,200 pages of evidence the committee had. Maybe it was because the committee attorney presenting the case said there wasn’t even the need to call any witnesses since the evidence was so damning.

Whatever the reason, the embarrassment should now switch to the House itself and its members. The evidence was so stacked against him the House should have been voting for expulsion rather than censure, but it circled the wagons around a colleague and only voted to censure him. Even then there were 79 representatives who voted to not even hit him with censure, even when the evidence so clearly proved his guilt. These people are going to have to be the next to be evicted from Congress in 2012. I’m sure some of them also served on the O.J. Simpson jury and voted not guilty.

We the people are going to have to continue to take matters into our own hands and take out the trash ourselves come election time. Charlie Rangel is an embarrassment to himself, his colleagues, and his country, and should be sitting in jail this very moment. Let’s hope this still could happen.

Atheists’ Numbers Doom Them To Irrelevance

Atheists are once again trying to bring attention to themselves by attempting to denigrate, insult or demean religions and, in particular, Christianity and therefore Christians.

This time it is a billboard advertising stunt in New Jersey; the billboard was placed there by some atheist activist group that calls itself American Atheists. Once again their attempt to put down Christianity will be doomed to irrelevance.

Polls show atheists to be 3 percent or less of the total population of the United States, a number that has remained about the same over past years. However, in a desperate attempt to make the number appear higher, the president of this organization now claims that there are many more “closet atheists.” He goes so far to say that there are many who attend religious services during the holidays but don’t believe in them. Kind of pathetic if you ask me.

Fortunately, the country is headed back on the right track to sanity. A few years ago only 20 percent of the nation’s top companies dared to make any mention of Christmas in their stores. A great many were simply intimidated by the ACLU or similar organizations. The number mentioning Christmas has reversed itself and is now up to 80 percent and continuing to rise. It’s also nice to see the Salvation Army bell ringers back in places where they were previously banned.

Why are atheists so afraid of Christianity that they feel they have to go out and aggressively attack it every year around this time? Why don’t you instead proudly proclaim your “atheistic religion” and explain all the reasons and research that led you to your stance. Maybe you can’t? Maybe your choice was made out of laziness and you didn’t even give religion a chance? Are you going to give your children the right to choose?

Tell you what; why don’t you pick a day, any day, call it Atheist Day, and spend the day celebrating your atheism. Get yourself an atheist tree, exchange atheist gifts and have a great atheist meal. Call all the other atheists you know (won’t take long) or send them a card and exchange happy atheist wishes.

Since you believe that there is no being more supreme than yourself (a rather egocentric viewpoint), you can celebrate you by staring at yourself (or small groups staring at each other) in the mirror all day. Isn’t this a better idea than going around and putting other religions down? At least you are doing something more positive for yourself if you follow my strategy for you.

We Christians are on the Right Side of this issue. Atheists have no real beliefs; they just want to tear down one more long standing tradition and belief. How can they claim that a baby in a manger, a Cross, a Christmas tree or some innocent Christmas songs cause them untold suffering and still keep a straight face? And then they tell the rest of us to be more sensitive to their feelings. Wrong atheists; you are the ones who need the sensitivity training sessions. Your claims of hurt and pain are bordering on the side of ridiculousness.

As has been shown over the past few years, Christians can make their feelings known by voting with their feet and their wallets. As much as the atheists hate to admit it, their impact is becoming smaller each year. Remember the movie “The Passion of The Christ”? It is now No. 15 of the top 1,000 grossing films of all time in the United States. On the other hand, Bill Maher and his classic film, “Religulous,” is number….well, I can’t find it on the list. As a matter of fact, I wonder if it even covered its costs. I think it was popular for about three weekends. Examples like this abound.

The same thing holds true for retailers. Whose business do they want? Do they want 3 percent of the population frequenting their stores or a much larger percentage? I think the answer is obvious when you look at all the establishments who realized they made a huge mistake a few years back and have since rethought their positions.

Even though I do push back hard against you atheists, I still hope you will rethink your position and change before it’s too late. You are making the biggest mistake of your lives by not at least giving religion a serious try. In the meantime I wish you a Merry Christmas and I will be praying for you.

Taxing the Rich A Poor Idea

It’s getting rather tiresome to hear the same old chanting from the left, the liberals, and the free spending politicians. “Tax the rich! Tax the rich!

I’ve got a better mantra for you. How about “It’s not my money”?

Aren’t you a little ashamed of the self-demeaning characteristic of being jealous or envious of those people who have worked hard, sacrificed or had good fortune?

Are you also envious of people who have nicer homes, drive nicer cars, and take better vacations? It’s time to focus more on yourself and stop being so bitter. I know lots of entrepreneurs who have sacrificed, taken risks and who have succeeded and yes, some who have failed. I, for one, look up to those individuals.

Sure, you can think of an example where it seems a person who is undeserving of the wealth he or she possesses. Take, for example, Paris Hilton. Sure, she is a bubblehead. She didn’t even graduate from high school; she dropped out her junior year. Sure, she contributes nothing of any worth to society. But it still has nothing to do with you. She was just fortunate to be born with the right last name.

But for every Paris Hilton there are thousands of individuals who have worked hard and made sound choices to get where they are today, and yes, have probably accumulated a sizeable amount of wealth as a result. Good for them.

Who are you to decide how much that person should earn or how much you think they should be allowed to accumulate or inherit? Well, you say, “the rich can afford to pay more.” That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Take Bill Gates for example. Yes, he is worth a lot but do any of you have any idea of the size of the industry he created, the number of jobs and the amount of wealth he is responsible for? I thought America was supposed to be the land of opportunity. Maybe Mr. Gates shouldn’t pay any taxes at all. And look at all the good things he does for charity, education and other such causes.

Even though the statistics will fall on deaf, liberal, leftist ears, they are worth repeating. The top 1 percent are responsible for 38.2 percent of all personal income taxes paid (tax year 2008 statistics). The top 5 percent pay a total of 58.72 percent. Isn’t that enough?

On the other hand the bottom 50 percent of AGI taxpayers pay only 2.7 percent of the total. Should they decide how much someone else should pay? They are getting all the freedoms, all the liberties, and all the opportunities available in this great country of ours and are paying a ridiculously small amount or nothing for these privileges. I’ll say it again; stop being envious.

You don’t think the federal government taking 35 percent of every dollar earned is enough? Come on, folks, get real, that’s enough. As a matter of fact, it’s way too much.

The problem is on the spending side of the equation. Hopefully, with the new Congress and the 2012 elections coming up in less than two years, we can put a stop to the spending hemorrhaging going on that the present administra
tion and Congress is responsible for. For the next two years I will be proud to be the party of “no” if it means stopping the Obama socialist free spending, big government agenda dead in its tracks.

One more tiresome issue. I can take a second grader and tell him that tax rates are going to be the same this year as they were the previous year. He certainly wouldn’t see that as a tax cut for the rich. And the libs say these “tax cuts” will create an additional $700 billion deficit in our budgets. Only the mind of a leftist liberal thinks this way. The problem is that the Democrat controlled congress has spent the money before the issue was resolved.

I wish I had enough space to talk about the equally ridiculous notion of taxing the rich, mean corporations. Who do you think ends up paying all the corporation taxes? You do.

It has been estimated that 22% of the price we pay for consumer products represents embedded taxes. Our corporate tax rates are already among the highest in the industrial world. Corporations aren’t relocating overseas because of greed. The government’s burdensome regulations, unions, and high tax rates are chasing them away. Come on libs, think before you speak. Get On The Right Side.

  Obama’s Tactics Won’t Work A Second Time

Unfortunately I was in Romania when Obama made his State of The Union Speech. If I wanted to watch it live I would have had to stay up until 4 a.m. I certainly wasn’t about to do that. Maybe for the Super Bowl but definitely not for Barack.

When I returned home I was feeling kind of guilty, so I watched a replay. It was exactly what I expected. Miraculously, he had become a reformed moderate and seemed to promise everyone his far left liberal days were over. It’s the same tactic he took to get himself elected and I guess he thought it would work again. I thought maybe I was watching his first campaign speech for the 2012 elections.

Unfortunately, Barack (for you that is, not for the country) it’s not going to work this time. Your soaring rhetoric and charismatic charm dazzled a lot of people the first time, but you have lost a lot of those prior supporters, simply because they have seen that you were untruthful about everything you were promising in 2008.

It worked the first time when you had people totally ignoring your past track record of being the Senate’s most liberal senator, having no experience, abstaining on many Senate votes (what leadership), and no history that proved you had the competence to sit in the White House. How much of the youth vote do you think you’re going to get this time after they have watched you on your foolish spending spree, which yielded no results but saddled them with an impossible-to-pay future debt burden?

I can’t wait to hear you explain the $3 trillion additional debt you created in only your first two years, bringing the total up to $14 trillion, and most of this debt is owed to the Chinese. I seem to remember when you called the $8.3 trillion debt limit requested by President Bush “a sign of leadership failure.”

How about the $1.4 trillion budget deficit you have saddled the country within just your first year. How about the failed trillion dollar stimulus bill to create jobs yet unemployment went from 7.8 percent to well over 9 percent (I think it peaked at 9.8 percent) with no sign of lessening? The only policies that have worked for you have been those that were a continuation of President Bush’s policies. You remember him don’t you? The guy you loved to blame all your failures on. Rational people are seeing through that strategy as well.

Let me teach you a lesson. Government doesn’t create jobs, Barack, all governments create are bureaucracies.

No, Barack, your days are numbered. You have called in all your chits, and no one trusts you anymore.

You are so caught up with yourself that you don’t even see yourself - or the Democrat leaders of Pelosi and Reid - to blame for the historic shellacking your party took this last November. The three of you gave the Republicans (mostly conservatives) 63 seats in the House of Representatives and six more Senate seats so your majority there went from filibuster-proof to now only 53 to 47.

Even better news is the 2012 elections will allow further gains in the House as conservatives find better candidates to run. The Senate picture is looking pretty rosy also. Of the 33 Senate seats coming up for election in 2012, 23 are Democrats and only 10 are Republican. It is estimated that only 8 of the Democrat seats are safe, and 12 are from states that went Republican in 2008. The other three are toss ups. Do you really think your slim majority in the Senate will hold up in as those vulnerable senators fight for their political lives?

So, Barack, your political career is coming to a rapid end. It does not matter what you say anymore or how well you say it since you have proven yourself to be dishonest. Remember all the times you or your minions have called the Republicans enemies who “should be punished” and arrogantly told them to passively sit in the back? How about when you said they (the Republicans) bring a knife to a fight and you’ll bring a gun? What civility Barack; what bipartisanship.

But we conservatives can’t afford to rest. We have plenty of facts of his failures to keep reminding centrists and independents that they didn’t get what they thought they were getting and not to make the same mistake again. I can assure you that there are vast numbers of individuals who are having voter remorse.

Yes, I became very distrustful and suspicious very early on in his speech. I think it was when his lips started moving.

Riding Into The Sunset While On The Right Side

It’s time. After almost 5½ years and 130-plus columns I am going to call it a career. I had originally considered doing this sooner, but there was no way I was going to miss the fun of the 2010 elections. It’s only fair to let someone else enjoy writing the column for the 2012 celebration.

I would never have imagined that I would get the huge number of supporters and new friends that I have over the last five years. This little local newspaper has an unbelievable reach.

I have received feedback from all 50 states and four foreign countries. Several columns appeared on Lucianne.com; one on illegal aliens was read on national radio, and most enjoyable was when my column was reprinted (without permission) on the website of Mr. atheist, Darwin lover, secular progressive, himself, Richard Dawkins.

Because of that posting, I was able to antagonize a very large number of Dawkins disciples. Just go to his website, type “Sears” in the search window and have a bunch of laughs. His disciples seem to be very unstable people.

I remember when I first bounced the idea of “retiring“ off Daily Star Editor Sam Pollak. It was back in August when I mentioned the idea, and he talked me out of it by saying, “Look at it this way, there are a lot of liberals you haven’t ticked off yet.”

It was a convincing response since it had been a lot of fun causing liberals such apparent angst. My, how they rant and rave. I wonder if they punch the walls and kick their pets around. I know they dislike immensely what I have to say, but they keep on reading, now don’t they? There have been about ten regulars who have provided about 90 percent of the negative feedback.

I have to sincerely thank Sam for giving me the opportunity to write the column. I remember the first time he called me with the offer. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it.

The first person I went to was my brother, who told me I would be crazy not to accept the offer. He was right, but it is rather pathetic that there are individuals who have gotten angry with my family members and relatives simply because of me. Again, very pathetic people.

I hope Sam doesn’t regret his decision to recruit me, but he is a man whose word can be totally counted on. I remember early on when he told me he didn’t agree with me 99 percent (maybe it was 100 percent) of the time, but he would staunchly defend my right to say what I felt was important.

He never once went back on his word. He is an honorable man and a friend I know I can count on. I do have to apologize for the number of angry phone calls and letters he must have received because of me.

Conservatives everywhere should write to Sam and thank him for trying to bring balanc
e to the newspaper. I don’t think people appreciate or realize the efforts he has made to bring more balance to The Daily Star.

Lastly, I couldn’t be happier that Sam, in his wisdom, selected Chuck Pinkey as my replacement. I have known Chuck for about 1½ years, but I have been enjoying his classified ad section mini-columns for a number of years. I have found him to be a very honorable man, a rock-solid conservative who will not be intimidated by anyone (especially a liberal), and a good friend. I would have never met Chuck had it not been for this column. The baton has been passed to a very capable person.

But please don’t take Chuck for granted. I know from experience that support in the form of phone calls, e-mails, and giving feedback in person will be greatly appreciated by him. Remember, he is stepping up to the responsibility of carrying the banner of conservatism publically, and he will certainly receive lots of abuse.

I am leaving with mixed emotions. I know I will miss writing the column but at the same time will appreciate all the free time I will now have. Just remember, fellow conservatives, facts and logic are on our side. The left has nothing to fight back with other than emotions. We will be successful in taking back our country but only if we continue to stay involved and stick together.

Isn’t it a good feeling to know that we are “On The Right Side?”

Part of the fun of writing my columns is the feedback I received. Although 98 percent of the feedback is positive and supportive, I do get some that are pretty vicious. I have had some e-mails run 4 to 5 pages in length and pretty much are simply rabid rantings. Let me give you some examples:

My columns on atheism made it to the web site of Mr. Atheist himself, Richard Dawkins. I received a lot of responses from those people and some were pretty nasty (predictably, they were all unsigned):
