  Chapter 9 – Rewind

We arrived at the bus station that we were at when we last left the base. We traveled down the same path we took before as well and up to the base. We got through the halls of the base and into our quarters and unpacked.

“Feels good to be back again,” Revolver spoke.

I looked around for a moment and replied, “I guess so.”

Revolver gave me a look then went to get his assassin’s robes. I did the same and we both suited up. As soon as we finished, there was a loud knock on the door. We looked at each other as the door was forced open. We saw Phantom standing in the doorway with one foot up in the air. It looked like she kicked the door down. The odd thing was that I thought I saw some sort of dark aura radiating off her leg for a moment. She looked extremely mad as she put her leg down and approached us.

Revolver got irritated and questioned, “What the hell, Phantom?”

“What the hell is right. Where were you two?” she asked.

  “A mission, obviously,” Revolver answered.

I then said, “Well, we went on a vacation too. Remember, you ran into us.”

Revolver looked at me with the same irritated face, “That doesn’t matter.”

Phantom shook her head then put her hand up to motion us to follow her.

“Come. We’re going to the common room. There is something you need to see,” she ordered us.

She turned and exited the room. We followed her. Phantom then led us through the halls and to the common room. We stopped at the bar and Phantom motioned to the bartender.

“Turn on the news. Channel 8, RFN News. Now,” she demanded.

The bartender nodded, pulled out a remote from behind the bar and pointed to the TV mounted on the wall. It was tuned to the channel and the RFN News came up.

The reporter spoke, “…Now to national news. In Prism City, there has been a new sighting of Evo. He was seen stopping a gang of criminals trying to take out the city’s power from the power plant. It’s been years since his last sighting.”

“What does this have to do with anything?” I asked.

Phantom turned to us and respond, “Keep watching,”

The reporter continued, “In other news, two days ago, there was an attack in the Central Union. Black, Shadow-like creatures appeared and terrorized citizens near an intersection. The attack was led by an unknown man. The suspect disappeared after getting in a fight with two other men. Police are currently searching for them. “

“Well, they couldn’t possibly know who we are,” I thought.

The report continued, “Thanks to an anonymous source, they provided a Comphone video. The video shows who these men are,” footage of our fight against Crynux was playing while the reporter continued, “The men are still being identified but the clothes that they are both wearing matches close to a group of assassins that are also being investigated into.”

My heart sank, and my mouth dropped. The clothes we were wearing did look very similar to our assassins’ outfit. I looked at Revolver who looked pale and scared with wide eyes. Phantom looked furious with her arms crossed.

“You know what this means, right?” she asked us in annoyance.

I tried to figure out what she was talking about. The report was still going on in the background. “…Yul Traven was found murder by his wife and daughter two nights ago. Police confirmed the murder happened right before the terrorist attack. Police are also investigating to see if there was a connection with the terrorist attack. Yul was suspected of physical abuse against his family but was never confirmed. Police think this was the motive behind his murder.”

My attention turned back to Phantom as I started to notice something about her. Something about her eyes was telling me she was struggling to stay mad. Suddenly, Revolver spun around and ran out of the room. I was quick to do the same thing and followed him. I turned around as I was running and saw several assassins running after us, led by Phantom. It was a scary sight and my heart was racing.

I sprinted to catch up to Revolver who ran into our room. I ran in too, and Revolver quickly slammed the door behind me. He then pushed one of the drawers nearby up against the door. I bent over and put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. I was breathing heavy, along with Revolver.

“We need a plan to get out of this,” Revolver said.

There was yelling and banging at the door.

“I’m thinking,” I responded, looking around.

My breathing started to calm. Revolver put his hands on his head while looking up to the ceiling.

Revolver sighed, “I should have looked to see if there were onlookers. Now the H.N.A, is going to be taken down, and it’s all our fault.”

“It’s not like you could go back and…,” I said back before it hit me.

Revolver looked back at me with a similar expression indicating that he had that same idea. Going back in time; It made sense.

  “Let’s do it,” Revolver pressed.

I shook my head in uncertainty, “I don’t know Revolver. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before.”

I felt like maybe I have but I had no memory of doing so.

Revolver pointed out, “We don’t have a much of a choice, Spex. I think you can do it. Don’t think about it, and just do it.”

I sighed, put my hand up, and Revolver moved to stand next to me. I cleared my head and thought of only the fight against Crynux. A light purple portal then appeared in front of us. It was like the portal that Vlaykre created when he appeared to us in the hotel. Revolver and I looked at each other. I could tell we were second guessing going into the portal. A loud bang at the door made us snap our attention to the door.

“Open this door, or we’ll break it down!” Phantom said from the other side of the door.

We looked at each other and said in unison, “Let’s go.”

We then jumped into the portal. We were surrounded by portal aura. Our jump seemed to slow down. As the light purple aura disappeared time sped back to normal and we landed on the ground. We looked around and it looked like we were in some sort of alley.

“Are we back in the past?” Revolver questioned.

We turned, and I saw the portal had disappeared. Suddenly, I forgot who I was or where I was. I looked at the person next to me who looked confused too.

  “Who are you?” I asked.

“The better question is, who are you?” he asked back.

I nodded, “I don’t know, but I feel like I do know you. Like you’re my best friend or something.”

The person nodded, “Yeah, I kind of feel the same. Where are we?”

  “I don’t really know. Let’s go see,” I suggested.

We walked out of the alley onto the street. There were people running in fear all in the same direction, along with screams. There was a loud crash from the intersection and black creatures were running around causing destruction. In the middle of the intersection was a man who was just standing there. We hid behind a nearby car that was parked on the side of the street.

The person with me spoke, “Why do I feel like I’ve been here before?”

I replied, “I would say Déjà Vu, but I’m feeling the same way somehow.”

“We should move closer. Maybe we could get answers,” he said.

I nodded in agreement, “Yeah, but we should keep low. Those creatures look dangerous.”

  “Agreed,” he said.

We moved quietly and stayed out of sight while working our way towards the intersection. The man looked menacing once I got a better look at him. It looked like he was waiting for something. We hid behind another car that was half on the sidewalk half on the street. Suddenly, two men approached the man in the middle of the intersection and began to fight him. It started to become more familiar.

“I think that is us,” I pointed out.

Memories started to poor in. I remembered who I was, where I was, and that it was Revolver who was right next me.

  “I remember now. Yo
u’re Revolver,” I told him.

A look of realization came on his face, “I remember now. We came here to change the past!”

  “Yeah, that’s right,” I agreed.

Revolver peeked out and saw the past us fighting Crynux. Something dawned on me, and I quickly pulled Revolver down.

He looked confused, “What was that for?”

“We have to be careful not to be seen by our past-selves. I still don’t remember everything, but something is telling me that it could mean the worst thing ever!” I told him in a demanding voice.

“Okay, I’ll be careful,” Revolver assured.

He carefully peeked out slightly and saw something.

He said to me, “Hey look, there’s a girl there. She’s pulling out a comphone to record us.”

I peeked out a little to see the girl, who looked like a teenager, recording the fight.

“Alright, we need to stop her,” I pointed out.

“On it,” Revolver replied, putting his hood on.

I put my hand up to halt him, but he was gone already. I put my hood on as well, ducked around the other way, and carefully made my way to where the girl was. I was about to jump up at her, but Revolver snuck up behind her, and held a water dagger up to the back of her neck.

“Freeze!” he quietly demanded in a deep voice.

The girl flinched and froze with her hands up. The phone then dropped to the ground. She looked frightened.

She then responded, shaking, “What do you want?”

“I need you to delete the video and never speak of this to anyone. Do this and you will be spared,” Revolver ordered, still with a deep voice.

She was still not moving other than shaking in fear. She didn’t respond.

“Am I clear?” Revolver said to her, waiting.

She nodded her head and slowly picked up the comphone. Revolver leaned over to see around her shoulder to watch her delete the video off the phone. Afterwards he crouched back down.

“Good now walk away and don’t look back,” Revolver told her.

She nodded, and tears began to roll down her face, “Alright.”

The girl then turned and ran away. She did not turn back to look at us. Revolver then ducked down next me.

“You didn’t have to be harsh about it,” I said to him.

He gave me a look and responded, “How else did you want me to handle that?”

“Never mind, let’s just get back to the present,” I nodded in displeasure.

We continued to stay low as we turned away from the fight. We both went down a nearby alley. We stood up once we saw that the coast was clear.

Revolver looked at me, “Alright, we’re good. Let’s go.”

I put my hand up, but just as I was about to open a portal. A shadow creature appeared on the wall of one of the buildings. It jumped down and three more Shadow Dwellers appeared. Revolver quickly put his hands up

  “Water Blast!” He exclaimed.

A large Water Blast shot out from both of his hands. It took out two of them, but one leapt high into the air towards us. I unsheathed my sword and slashed at the last one. It dissipated afterwards. We looked around to see if there were anymore.

“Okay, let’s try this again,” I said.

I put my hand up and created a portal that opened. I sheathed my sword as, Revolver and I stepped in. We were surrounded by purple aura once again. It disappeared, and we were back in our quarters, in the base. We looked around with curious looks. The drawer was back where it normally was.

“You think we did it?” Revolver questioned.

There was loud banging at the door suddenly. We looked at each other with uneasy expressions. Revolver then took a deep breath and stood up straight. He walked over to the door and opened it to find Phantom standing in the doorway.

She looked stern, “There you are!”

We both took a step back and put our hands up.

“We’re sorry, okay!” I said, not wanting to fight.

Revolver must have felt the same way. Phantom looked confused.

“What are you apologizing for? That’s not normal for you two,” she confusingly commented.

Revolver and I looked at each with confusion as well.

Revolver looked back at her and asked, “Why are you here?”

“To get on your case for not going to Lord Sharik first for a mission briefing before going to your quarters,” she answered.

I looked at Revolver who looked back at me again. We sighed at the same time.

“Yeah, you’re right. Sorry, Phantom,” Revolver replied.

She shook her head, “It’s fine, and you don’t have to call me Phantom right now. You can call me Lilith.”

“But don’t you prefer Phantom?” I pointed out.

  “Yes and no,” She replied.

She smiled at Revolver then turned and disappeared down the hall. I shut the door and breathed another sigh of relieve.

“It seems like we fixed it,” I pointed out with a smile.

Revolver nodded, “Yeah looks like it. I’ve never seen Lilith act like that.”

“I’ve actually seen her do it once before around you. It was a while ago though,” I told him.

“Huh, I guess I didn’t notice. Anyways, let’s go see Sharik,” Revolver responded.

I nodded, and we exited the room and made our way through the halls. On the way, I started to wonder if I could use time travel easier, like second nature.

Chapter 10 – Welcome to the Jungle

Revolver and I made it to the Hearing Chamber. We walked right in and kneeled. Two people entered and stopped at each end of the throne. One was Phantom, and the other was man that hid his face with black aura. The one who was hiding was lord Sharik’s right hand man. He went by the name of Remnant. He always had his hood up and darkness over his face. All you could see was his glowing yellow eyes. Something about him made me uneasy, like he’d done something to make me mad. To my knowledge he hadn’t done anything other than be bossy to Revolver and me. Just moments later, Lord Sharik appeared and sat in his throne.

“Did you two enjoy your vacation? Sorry for cutting it short,” Sharik asked.

We both nodded, “Yes we did, Lord Sharik.”

I then told Sharik, “My Lord, there was an attack on Central City. Someone that goes by the name Crynux. We think stopped him from doing, well, whatever he was aiming to do.”

“You should have left him alone. We’re not heroes. The reason why I brought you back was to be ready as soon as possible as we may have found another target for you,” Sharik told us.

He got a look of displease. I didn’t like the idea of us not doing the right thing. I looked over and saw Revolver contemplating. An assassin walked in and approached Remnant. It had been a while, but I remember the assassin’s name was Jakob. I had spoken with him on occasion in the past while not on a mission. Remnant leaned in, and Jakob whispered something to him.

“Here is the report,” Jakob said, handing Remnant a data pad.

Remnant scrolled through it then responded, “Good work. You’re dismissed.”

Jakob nodded his head in agreement, “Yes, sir.”

Jakob left the room as Remnant turned to Sharik and handed him the data pad.

“Lord Sharik my subordinate brought good news. It seems Senator Blyth has been spotted arriving in the Roc Domain,” Remnant explained.

Sharik gave a smirk and replied, “Good. He recently changed his mind about having Amaya as the Sovereign. He has a lot of backers that will go with whatever he does. We had an inside man try to change his mind, but they failed. We can’t have him change his mind.”

Sharik turned his attention to us. We bowed our heads.

“Blyth is the target. I need you to silence him,” Sharik continued.

Revolver and I were quiet for a moment before Revolver spoke, “It’ll be done, my lord.”

Suddenly, I remembered the book I found. I reached to pull it out from my bag.

&nb
sp; “Before I forget, I found this book, my Lord. I was unable to read it, but I figured you would like to have it,” I told him.

Lord Sharik looked at me with a straight face, like he was hiding that fact that he was upset. I was confused and worried.
