“I have no objection at all, and I suspect that would be a wise decision on your part anyway, Mr. Darcy.” She lowered her voice slightly. “I confess to a strong measure of unhappiness to learn I was not pregnant despite knowing it would have been a disaster. I would like to begin having children as soon as possible, so I do not want to delay the wedding. Are you agreeable to that?”
The idea of making love to her without the condom separating them ever again, knowing they would be creating a child born of their mutual love, filled him with excitement and a hint of reverence he couldn’t express. Instead, he nodded as he kissed her once more. “I love you, Lizzy.”
“And I love you, Fitzwilliam.”
Epilogue
The Pemberley nursery was full in the next many years, as the Darcys brought seven children into the world. They were fortunate to have strong, healthy sons and daughters, and each of their children survived infancy and beyond.
They were a close-knit family. That was common knowledge in Derbyshire. It was also well-known the Bingley cousins were more like siblings than cousins to the Darcys, due to the time spent together. Both families sometimes received strong envy.
One of the strongest reasons for envy was the way Mr. Darcy still looked at Mrs. Darcy, even after twenty years of marriage. Her deep and abiding love was just as visible when she looked at him. It made the ladies sigh in envy and then lay bitter words at their poor husbands’ feet for not being so loving and attentive as the dashing Mr. Darcy.
