“I said my mouth watered at the thought of drinking your blood, even though our lives hung in the balance, and you’re caught up on whether or not you submitted to me?” Adam said incredulous.

“Yeah! I did not submit . I’m just making that very clear.”

Adam’s mouth started to turn up into a smile. “Fine… You didn’t submit.”

“Thank you. If anything, you submitted to my trust in you,” Sara said illogically. She’d turned the conversation around and that always made her happy.

“Now you’re stretching.” Adam’s white teeth flashed in his wide grin. “That makes no sense.”

“So. I made you smile and you are sickeningly handsome when you smile.”

Sara ran her hand from his shoulder down his back.

  “You flatter me.”

Adam cupped her cheek and looked her in the eyes.

“I have to know. Do you plan on continuing to see me after all of this… and the being a vampire thing?”

“Dude. I don’t think you understand...” Sara said, reading the raw vulnerability in his eyes continued quickly. “The magnitude of the fact, that this right here is many a woman’s fantasy. Don’t you watch movies?”

  “Seriously, Sara?”

  “I am serious…”

Sara was struck by a thought triggered by her mention of movies. “Wait! Wait! Adam, I watch movies and read books am I infected?!”

Sara’s hands went to her neck, a panic stricken look on her face.

“No. Calm down.” Adam pulled her hands away from her neck and spoke in a soothing deep tone. “That’s not how it works. I am not venomous or whatever they’ve come up with in fiction. Relax. You’ll be fine.”

“Oh, thank god!” Sara breathed a hard sigh of relief. The shot of new panic scattered her brain. She remained speechless as she shook her head. A shiver of relief gave her goosebumps.

“What? You didn’t want to be turned into a Vampire by a guy you just met three weeks ago?” He eyed her knowingly.

Sara loved when he raised one eyebrow that way. It was adorable. She smiled back at him.

“A girl can only take so much in one night.” She responded.

A yawn took her by surprise and she swayed a little off balance. She didn’t feel like herself. Too many adrenaline spikes. She’d never been in a life-threatening situation before. It had been an exhausting night.

“You should get under the covers and rest. I don’t know how much blood you lost. Your dinner is no longer… with you either. I’ll get you some water and that ice cream you mentioned. You need to rehydrate.”

Adam pulled the covers back with a no-nonsense look on his face.

It did sound like a good idea. She didn’t really want to be upright anymore. Sara slid under the covers and snuggled down. It felt good to be taken care of, so she let him fuss over her.

Adam returned shortly with her bowl of ice cream in the crook of his good arm and a big glass of water in his hand. He handed her the water first and waited for her to take a few big gulps. He traded her the ice cream bowl for the glass and set it on the bedside table. She scooted over for him and held up the covers. Adam climbed in fully clothed and settled in beside her.

“I’d offer to play a show on my phone for us but I don’t have one anymore,” Adam said shaking his head.

“That’s okay.” Sara said in-between spoonfuls of ice cream.

Exhaustion was catching up with her. Sara’s eyes were getting heavier with each bite. There was so much to think about. This beautiful man beside her was a vampire and had saved her life tonight.

He said her blood tasted like euphoria… What does that even mean?

Her thoughts became clouded with sleep. She felt Adam take the bowl from her hands and place it on the end table. Sara instinctively nestled herself into Adam’s side and drifted off.

The first rays of sunlight woke Sara. She blinked, squinting against the brightness, the events of the night before cascading through her mind.

  “Adam! Sunlight!”

She sprang into a seated position. He wasn’t in the bed.

A piece of paper lay on his pillow. She snatched it up.

  Sara,

I didn’t want to wake you, but I needed to be home before sunrise. I won’t be able to get a replacement phone until sundown tonight. I can only hope that you wake up still wanting me, because I will never change my mind about wanting you. You’ve brought joy into my life and there was nothing I needed more.

  Love,

  Adam

P.S. Looking forward to kissing you at New Year’s.

OH and this is our secret, obviously right??? I forgot to say that last night.

Sara clutched the letter to her chest and sighed. She chuckled at the last line.

  Yeah, obviously.

  My boyfriend’s a vampire.

She imagined telling Shawn and snorted at his imaginary reaction. She shook her head. She had wanted to live her life, and this was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Falling in love with Adam was only the beginning.

  The End

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed reading about Sara and Adam falling in love as much as I enjoyed writing it. Soon you can find out what happens next. Until then if you have a moment to leave a review, I would love you forever. Thanks in advance!
