  Sara’s Journal

“Today is such a good day! My sister gives birth to my nephew, I’m writing today to express my happiness. I brought this journal in hopes that I can make this into a best-selling memoir one day. For now though, I just want to enjoy the joy of writing down my life events as they happen. Yes, I will also write what my nephew does as well.

Did I mention that after the birth of my nephew, which should happen in a matter of moments that I will marry my hubby? He’s such a hunk in that doctor’s uniform. It seems like my mother was right when it came to my life coming together.

My husband and I getting married, he’s getting a new job with the biggest pharmaceutical company, and I’m getting a new nephew. After all the depressing years I been through, this is my redemption at life. I’m so excited that I’m having trouble putting words together. Looks like I’m doing a bad job already at being an author, haha. Oh well, I’m sure as I practice more the words will come together.

When I’m done with one year in this journal, I might have my husband read and see if it’s good enough to make into a book. I’m sure he’ll say yes, but I hope that he’ll be a little honest. There goes the doctor calling us… Can’t wait to see my nephew!”

After reading the journal entry, he sees a woman all bitten up. He tries to feel a pulse, but he feels none. He assumes the woman who is dead was the one who wrote the journal entry.

“Poor woman, looks like her life came to an end thanks to the Hybrid Corporation. I sure hope that her nephew at least survived. Looking at the keycard that leads to the research room, I bet there cannot be anything good. I won’t hold my breath when it comes to the little one. Too bad her husband’s new job with Hybrid was nothing but a death trap.” He says soberly to himself.

Finding nothing else in the room, he walks to the door leading to the research room. He grabs the keycard and inserts it into the keycard reader. The maglock holding the door closed unlocks. He opens the right side of the double doors and enters slowly.

He peeks around the door to make sure there is nothing hiding. Seeing the coast is clear, he enters the research room. The room is dark other than the red lights coming from the machines and computers.

“I wonder why this door was locked. There must be something huge in here. That bastard Witwer must have been doing something sinister in here.” George says.

He walks with his pistol drawn looking around. A computer is seen displaying a map of the hospital. George begins to use the computer.

What floors do you want displayed?

  1. 1st through 3rd

  2. 4th through 7th

  3. 8th through 10th

  4. 11th floor

You have selected 4th through 7th.

Making his selection on the computer, the screen displays the map for the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh floors. Focusing on the 5th floor, he sees the main office is on the other side of the hospital. The path is blocked by the debris caused by Mr. Z. Looking at the sixth floor on the map, he sees a way he can get down to the other side of the fifth floor. He just hopes that there is nothing that will impede his way.

As he walks deeper into the huge room, he sees many capsules lined up perfectly. Looking in them, he’s shocked to see what is inside.

“Oh lord… it can’t be. They’re taking animals and pouring them inside these capsules filled with the Raven Hawk Virus. It’s what I feared since I broke into the facility by the reservoir. These guys are monsters. If I ever get out of here alive, I’ll make it my mission to destroy them.” He says angrily.

Continuing to walk around the room, he notices that it’s empty for the most part. It’s a bit too quiet for his own good figuring that something is waiting to ambush him.

Reaching the back of the room, he sees a baby on the table. He rushes to the table to see if the baby is alive. To his horror, the baby is not moving and it looks like a needle was struck through it on it’s right arm. The baby has no pulse and he believes that its dead.

“No, what did these monsters do to this kid? Lord have mercy!” He says disgusted.

He sees a locker behind him and opens it. Inside of the locker, he sees a green herb.

  Picked up a Green Herb.

George uses the Green Herb. Condition: Caution (Level 1)

Once he heals himself, George sees a document on the floor next to the table. He picks up the paper and begins to read it.

  Research Progress

“This might sound like a strange request, but I want you to take one of the babies from the maternity ward. We research each baby for a reason. We look at the genes, medical conditions, and even down to the DNA. After all, these babies will be the future of our research.

With that being said, I’m eyeing one newborn in particular. His name is Jason Parker, his genes seem to be strong, and I want to see what would happen to him if we gave him the Raven Hawk Vaccine. I’m sure he’ll probably grow into something better than Polybius.

If this is successful, then babies will be a hot commodity for us. This makes it paramount that we keep this room a secret. Knowing the social justice warriors out there, they’ll try to say we’re wrong.

The dawn of a new era is upon us! Soon New York will be under the boot of the Hybrid Corporation!”

“These are some sick individuals to use newborns as subjects for their sick experiments! Now I know that these people must be stopped. They say that a dawn of a new era is upon them. The new era will be when George T. Fisher takes them down and they end up in prison.” He says in his head.

He crumbles up the document in disgust and feels something under his foot. Picking up his left foot, he sees a key that he picks up.

Picked up a Key. Looking at the key, it’s tagged 5th floor east stairway key.

There is nothing else in the room of great importance, so he decides to leave. As he walks away from the table with the baby, he hears a loud boom. A few seconds later, he feels the vibration of the wall behind him.

“Oh crap, don’t tell me he’s back.” He says concerned.

  Chapter 6

The vibration begins to pick up in intensity and the wall behind him breaks. Looking behind him, Mr. Z breaks through the wall and begins to give chase.

“Oh crap, I’m out of here! Not sure what that thing is, but it’s trying to tell me to get out of here.” Ge0rge shouts.

He begins to rush out of the room. As cowardly as it might be, he realizes that survival is the name of the game. Escaping the room, he heads back to the maternity ward. As soon as he leaves the research room, George slips onto the floor while Mr. Z breaks through the door leading to the research room.

“Lord have mercy! That bastard is one bad motherfucker!” He says in shock.

Mr. Z walks towards him as he tries to get up. George is able to get up, but Mr. Z tries to deliver a haymaker at him. He quickly ducks under the punch which goes into the wall. The punch creates a six inch hole that George simply avoids looking at.

He continues to sprint from Mr. Z after seeing the power it possesses. Getting to the locked stairway door in the waiting room, he grabs the key he got before. He sees the tag and realizes that he has the wrong key. Looking behind him, Mr. Z begins to walk towards him and he quickly pulls the other key out of his pocket.

Turning the key on the lock, he’s able to open the door and run up the stairs to the sixth floor. He runs up the stairs like never before and sweats as he’s running until he gets to the landing for the sixth floor. Opening the door, he enters the hallway hoping he loses Mr. Z.

On the sixth floor, he sees that he’s in the ICU area. Walking through the hallway, he spots a red herb next to a set of double doors.

  Picked up a Red Herb.

As useless as a red herb is by itself, he knows that he’s only a green herb away from having a herb that can heal even the worst of wounds. Opening the double doors to the next leg of the hallway, he spots two froggers in the hallway. With his limited magnum ammo, he has to shoot wisely.
/>
One of the froggers grabs his leg with its tongue and attempts to pull him towards its mouth. Pulling out his magnum, he shoots the frog in the mouth twice until it dies leaving behind a pool of green blood.

  Magnum Rounds: 2

Falling on the floor, he has little time to recover before the second frog begins to hop towards him. When the frog reaches him, it attacks him by slashing him with its claws created from the mutation.

  Condition: Caution (Level 2)

The attack causes a decent amount of damage to George. He attempts to shoot the frog when it opens its mouth, but his arm jerks due to the pain he’s taken. The arm jerk causes him to miss and shoot the smoke alarm above him.

  Magnum Rounds: 1

With only one bullet left in his magnum, he knows he needs to be precise in his next shot. Looking at the huge frogger in the eye, he waits for it to open its mouth. The frogger tries to spit a poisonous white substance at him. He’s able to dive to the right just in the nick of time to avoid contact with the vile substance. The poison has a high acidity level similar to what the giant spiders spit. The spit hits a door and begins to cause the door to melt.

On the floor, George is still hesitant to shoot his final magnum round. That hesitation causes him as the frog grabs his shooting arm with its tongue and begins to pull him. His mini camera falls from his pockets and breaks into pieces.

George stretches his left arm to reach his right arm that is holding the magnum. Grabbing the magnum with his left hand, he aims the best he can on the froggers mouth.

“I gotta make sure this one counts or it’ll be RIP for me.” He says.

As the frogger’s tongue continues to pull him, he closes his eyes and hopes for the best as he squeezes the trigger. He shoots his last magnum round and the bullet travels perfectly into the froggers mouth. The bullet doesn’t come out of the back of the frogger like the other, but its enough to kill it.

  Magnum Rounds: 0

Just like the other frogger, green blood comes out. Unlike the blood of the spiders though, the blood doesn’t have that pungent smell that made him vomit. With his mini camera damaged and lost, he won’t be able to take pictures of what he’s seen. Looking in his pockets, he notices all the pictures he took are gone as well along with his car keys.

“It’s a shame that I can’t take pictures. I must have dropped the other picture when the monster was chasing me. Not to mention my car keys are gone, it looks like I’ll need to invest in a new car. That Mustang was my baby. Crud, no one is going to believe me. It’ll be my word against theirs. Knowing my brownnose boss, he’ll fire me if I try to give him the truth. For now, I just need to get out of here. I’ll see if I can get Elaine to come get me.” He says in his head.

He pulls out his retro style flip-phone and calls Elaine. He hears a few rings until his friend Elaine picks up. He and Elaine go way back. She was a fellow co-worker when George was a local politician. George was actually romantically involved with her until she revealed that she was still married. Not wanting to cause Elaine trouble with her marriage, he stepped away. Nevertheless, he still has feelings for her. She is around 50 just like he is.

“Hi George, how does the battle go for you?” Elaine answers.

As soon as she answers, he thinks how to answer.

  What will George say?

  1. Elaine, as much as I want to have a friendly talk, I need your help right now. (Passive)

  2. Elaine, I’m in the nut house known as Woodhull Hospital and if you don’t come get me, zombies will eat me. (Neutral)

  3. Elaine, can you come rescue me from the hospital and after that I like to go out on a date with you. What do you say, my hero? (Aggressive)

  You have chosen choice #1.

Figuring that she will not be interested in a date with him, he goes with the passive response.

“Elaine, as much I want to have a friendly talk, I need your help right now.” He answers Elaine.

“What’s wrong baby? What do you need for? Feeling depressed again? You need me to cheer you up again?” She answers him.

“I don’t need that kind of help believe it or not. I’m in Woodhull Hospital for an appointment and all of a sudden the building becomes infected with… zombies.” He answers her questions.

“Zombies? You must be joking!” She replies.

“I’m not, I don’t know if you can see the news about the hospital. If not, forget it, just come get me. I’m in bad shape right now.” He says hurt.

“Babe, do you know how the zombies came about? Is it a virus or what? I’ve read books about them before, just never thought they could be real.” She asks.

George thinks about whether he should tell her what he knows.

  What will George say?

  1. Mention nothing about the Raven Hawk and Hybrid (Passive)

  2. Tell Elaine about the Hybrid Corporation. (Aggressive)

  You have chosen choice #1.

“I have no idea where these zombies coming from. Just come get me, I’ll be in the parking lot. At least, I hope I’ll be there. If I don’t call you, just leave and save yourself.” George says.

He decides to keep his knowledge to himself as he doesn’t want to risk Elaine’s life.

“I’ll be there babe. It’ll take me about a half hour to get there. If there are any zombies in the street, I’ll take care of them with my car.” Elaine responds.

“Cool, see you there. By the way…” Before he can finish, he hears the door to the stairway slam open.

Looking behind him, he sees that it’s Mr. Z continuing to pursue him.

“Babe… babe are you there?” Elaine loses George.

Mr. Z shows up in the hallway and gives George quite the scare.

“What the hell? How do you know where I am? What do you want from me or are you a programmed killing machine? Now I know I better get out of this hell hole!” He replies to Mr. Z.

Mr. Z seems to have no intention of answering back. With no ammo for his magnum, George runs from the superhuman. He runs through the ICU area where zombies are seen getting up from the beds and floor. With barely any ammo, he decides to run through the room. Looking behind him, he sees Mr. Z punching the zombies like they were ragdolls.

“This guy is a monster! He just plowed his way through those zombies. This is like the nightmare I used to have as a kid.” He shouts.

He keeps running as fast as he can from the monster. As he continues to go through the double doors, Mr. Z continues to break through the doors like nothing. George tries to lose Mr. Z by making quick turns as he runs. Despite going out of his way from the other side of the hall, his focus is to lose the superhuman first.

He ends up in a break room for the employees. Peeking out of the door, he sees Mr. Z turning around and going back the other way. He takes a deep breath and catches a short rest by sitting on one of the chairs.

After a couple of minutes, George realizes that he cannot sit too long as Mr. Z is bound to find him soon. He walks around the break room looking for anything useful. All he finds though is expired food in the fridge along with flat sodas in the vending machines. He does see a pick up on the table though upon further review.

  Picked up a Green Herb.

George uses the Green Herb. Condition: Caution (Level 1)

After healing himself, he finds nothing else besides a note that he reads.

Memo: Today’s menu for the Patients

  - Mashed Potatoes and Gravy or Grilled Cheese with Bacon Sandwich

  - Pineapple Slices or Apple Slices

  - Water or Orange Juice. For select patients, milk will be given.

  July 11th 2007

  Woodhull Hospital Cafeteria Staff

“Oh great, just today’s menu. Too bad, nobody counted on human beings being in the menu.” He says.

With nothing useful on the on the memo, he walks around and finds nothing else useful in the room. Before he can leave the room, Mr. Z busts through the door and strikes him with a strong right fi
st.

  Condition: Caution (Level 2)

He falls hard to the ground as Mr. Z tries to stomp him with its foot. He’s barely able to roll out of the way. After rolling, he shoots three pistol rounds at the head of Mr. Z.

  Pistol Ammo: 51

The head shots are enough to cause Mr. Z to cover its face and kneel down. That gives enough time for George to get up and run out of the room. He runs out of the break room and back to the hall. Getting back on the path to the other side of the hallway on the sixth floor, he runs as fast as he can until he sees a sign saying he’s on the west side of the building.

He looks behind him to make sure the monster is not behind him. George sees nothing but an empty hall, but he doesn’t take a chance as he keeps running through the hallway. When he stops to catch his breath, he sees an autopsy room to his left. He decides to check it as he might find something useful while hiding from Mr. Z.

  Chapter 7

George opens the door and he counts six dead bodies lying on the floor. He walks carefully to make sure none of the bodies are alive. With his pistol in his hand, he walks to the back of the room. For the most part, the autopsy room is empty minus a few beds, and the storage compartments to store dead bodies.

The door has a small window that George looks through. When he looks through the window, he sees Mr. Z.

“Oh crap, I better hide! This monster is determined to kill me.” He whispers.

He hides under the table and keeps his eyes on Mr. Z. Luckily for him the monster decides to walk past the autopsy room. He breathes a sigh of relief and sees that Mr. Z is walking the other way. With the monster out of the way, he continues to explore the room.

He opens the draws on the table and finds nothing but autopsy records along with studies.

“Damn I can’t find jack shit in this place. As much as I don’t want to leave that girl here, I gotta save myself first and stop Hybrid before anymore people die.” He whispers.

Ransacking the rest of the room, he continues to come up empty until he reaches a counter in the far back. Opening the door to the counter, he finds another keycard.
