False Blood

Talon watches me get dressed, a look of hunger in his eyes, that makes me shiver with need. “When this is over, I’m going to bring you back here, lock the door, jam the dresser against it, and take you for however long I want,” he tells me matter-of-factly, as if he didn’t just say he was going to play out one of the fantasies I’ve had in mind since I met him and we fought over who was driving my baby to the coven.

I nod, knowing if I were to say anything, it would just come out as complete gibberish.

My mother is watching me with a massive grin on her face that is just plain creepy. Why is she smiling like that? “What?” I ask hesitantly, not sure I want to know what her mischievous mind is thinking.

Axel chuckles at her side, muttering under his breath, “You’re doomed.”

Talon comes in behind me, standing right behind me making it clear he won’t be leaving my side for a long, long time. This just makes Sierra smile even wider. “So, when do I get grandkids?” she asks innocently, making me choke on my own saliva. Talon laughs patting me on the back, while I try to breathe through the pain. Once I gain the ability to speak again, I answer her. “Firstly, there are never going to be grandkids if we get interrupted every time we try to have sex. Secondly, I’m only twenty-one. Kids can wait for a long, long, long time, don’t you think? And thirdly, is it even possible for me to have children? We were taught that vampires have a lot of difficulty conceiving due to drinking the correct blood type. Is that not true?” I ask, watching the sombre expressions fill the room.

My father pats Sierra on the shoulder taking over answering the questions. “Yes and no. Most of what we were told whilst I was a part of the pack is very close to the truth. Your mother was able to have vampire and wolf blood to keep you satisfied during her pregnancy, so she had it a lot easier than others. Most vampire pregnancies are very difficult unless they’re planned. If the woman drinks human blood that is not her baby’s blood type, then she will lose her baby. All successful pregnancies in the covens are usually planned so that we’re able to ensure they only receive the one blood type during pregnancy. She can still drink the blood of her partner as their blood doesn’t seem to bother the foetus.”

He takes a break and it makes me realize how lucky I was to survive. If I wasn’t a cross breed, then who knows what would have happened.

Hmm, I wonder if what I say next is going to be a big surprise then. “I don’t know if this is going to make things worse or not, but I can’t drink bagged blood. I keep throwing it up and my beast breaks out extremely violently if not fed immediately after,” I tell my parents, watching expressions of horror appear. If anything, Sierra looks like she has gotten paler.

Britt is over by the side watching us, and takes this time to interrupt. “It’s true. She threw up the bag when Dev was with her yesterday before the celebration. I’ve been talking to Aunty Mace and we have a theory on what happened. She’s able to keep Dev, Talon, and Nik’s blood down but all bagged blood causes some kind of visceral reaction to her beast.

“The theory is, because she hadn’t drunk blood before meeting her soul-ties, she has somehow imprinted on their blood, much like a baby in utero, does. She may grow out of it, but for now, she is only going to be able to feed from them. We may be able to try and trick her body into thinking the bagged blood is one of her soul-ties blood so you will be able to drink from a bag, without fear of throwing it up again. I have a feeling her ‘beast’ is the main reason behind it all. She wants her soul-ties,” Britt explains.

Everyone else seems to understand exactly what she’s saying, but I’m still confused. So what if my beast wants her soul-ties, why would that mean I can only feed from them?

I don’t even get a chance to ask before my mother is speaking again. “Emerald, the reason we chased you all down is because we want to know what happened and why? Not how you died, we got the visual of that, but how are you not dead?” Sierra asks, watching me excitedly.

I smile, relieved at the change of subject. I need privacy to process what it all means. Maybe then it will make sense. For now, I can talk about what happened to me. “There isn’t too much to tell. it’s a little fuzzy.

“I woke up in a dark room and I remember having a conversation with someone. I don’t know who, it’s like it’s been erased from my mind. I felt a connection to the person but that’s it. The only real thing I remember is them telling me I’m immortal, that unless all my soul-ties die with me, I won’t die. Same for them. They won’t die as long as the rest of us are alive,” I inform them, watching shock register on everyone’s face but Britt’s. She winks my way, knowing exactly what I went through and that it technically wasn’t a real death. We are so going to have to sit down and discuss everything that has happened.

“That’s…just really hard to believe. I don’t think I’ve heard of that happening before,” Axel says, pride shining in his eyes.

I laugh at the grin on Britt’s face. “Oh no, I’m not the first one in this room it’s happened to. Apparently, it has something to do with multiple people being tied together. There’s one other in here who has ties to multiple guys. She just isn’t a vampire,” I grin, watching Britt’s mock outrage.

“Me? I’m not invincible. Ok, I am, but no one asked and it’s not like I knew having multiple soul-ties would make you immortal. I was told it happened to us because of Meron and his magic. I hoped but when you didn’t start healing immediately, I assumed you were dead,” she says when accusing glares are sent her way.

I take pity on her, saving her before an argument breaks out, “Seriously, guys, would you have believed her? You would have all thought she had lost it. Just as I would have if it hadn’t already happened. Now, how much longer is this going to take? I feel gross, and I want a shower.”

My mother looks over at me, disappointment on her face. “Do you mind if we stay? I’ll organize someone to clean up out here so you can sit down without all the destruction being an eye sore.” I look to my father and see a similar look. I guess they aren’t coping too well with my ‘death.’

I sigh, knowing I will regret not having time to myself but wanting to appease my mother and father. “Yeah sure. That would be amazing,” I smile, enjoying the delight on my mother’s face.

She jumps to her feet, clapping her hands together enthusiastically, “Ok, everyone but Emerald, Talon, Nik and Dev, out! Emerald needs some time to have a shower after that dramatic display of coming back to life while she was on fire. I’m sure she has soot in places we wouldn’t believe,” she says chiding me.

Jeez, it’s not like I could predict I was going to be on fire.

Talon seems to hear that last bit and turns, anger on his face. “You were on fire? You didn’t say you were on fire! God, Em, do you have no regard for your own safety?!” he raves, while I watch on, a smile lighting my face. This is the real Talon. The one I want. No pretending, no girlfriend, no restrictions and lots of sexy time. Well, not yet, but soon. Very soon. If I can ever get some alone time. “Are you ok? Do you need to feed?” Talon’s concern is obvious in his voice.

I take his hand, moving it up to my cheek, staring into his eyes. He smiles down at me, taking my hand and leading me back into the bedroom, Nik and Dev following us and leaving my parents to organize the front room.

When we’re safely hidden away, I move into Talon’s arms, to calm him down. “It was nothing, ok? I woke up on the pyre, and they had already lit it. I’m fine. I’m not hurt. I promise it barely touched me,” I reassure him.

“You’re sure you’re ok?” he looks down into my eyes, concern creasing his brow.

I sigh, exasperated. “Yes, I’m sure. Now, why don’t we all lay down and rest. I’m so fucking tired and if I’ve got to meet with the head vampires, I’ll need all the energy I can get.”

We all climb into Talon’s bed as it’s the bigger of the three and I snuggle between Nik and Talon, Dev reaching over Nik’s body to grasp hold of my hand.

  This moment here, is
what I’ve wanted since I met them.

I’ve only known the three of them for a couple of days, but it feels like a lifetime has passed. Soul-ties, death, witches, so much that I didn’t know existed. Now I get to lay back and enjoy the ride. I just hope no more surprises come our way.

That’s it for now guys. Sorry. But I do want to let you all know, there will be a book 2 and Britt’s story is currently in the works. I have many other new stories on the way so make sure you join my group if you haven’t already.

  ABOUT ME

Hi guys! I’m Tamara and I love, love, love swag. I discovered this addiction recently and it has now become a problem. Feel free to find my Facebook group ‘Tamara’s Swag’s Anonymous’ if you too suffer from the need to see swag on a daily basis.

Some things you should know about me. I’m crazy! The good kind, I think. I absolutely love my dog, Mikey (photos pop up of him in the group). I’m married to an amazing husband who seems to put up with my craziness. I’m not as old as a lot of you seem to think I am. I have a four-year-old daughter, Allison, who I love with every bit of my body and soul. She loves helping me gift you all swag packs and putting her favourite lollies in them.

And finally, the last thing you should know is I love helping. Mainly animals because they are my passion but I help the occasional human too.
