Bethany’s eyes widened. “You told him about me?”
Julius nodded. “He is very much looking forward to meeting my countess.”
“Do— Do my uncle and aunt, and brother, know about all this too?”
He nodded. “I asked both their permissions.”
“And they gave it?”
“Of course they gave it,” he chided. “The only person objecting is you. I will beg if I have to, Bethany.”
“Please do not,” she urged shakily
His eyes glowed, and he captured both her hands in his as he moved down onto his knees. “Marry me. Please, for the sake of my heart and sanity, marry me.”
Could she continue to refuse?
When she had no real wish to do so.
The thought of being with Julius for the rest of their lives, of being his beloved wife, was enough to dismiss all her earlier caution. “Yes.” She took hold of one of his hands and pulled him up beside her before launching herself into his arms. “I have missed you so much, Julius. I love you. So very, very much!”
They became lost in hungry kisses for the next few minutes, neither seeming able to get close enough to the other as they kissed and caressed.
Finally, Julius pulled away to rest he forehead against hers. “If we do not stop now,” Julius murmured shakily, “I will resort to making love to you in my carriage.”
Bethany’s laugh was both happy and carefree. “I am happy for us to do so.”
Julius held her at arm’s length. “We shall wait. After all, we can be married tomorrow if I can organize the church in time.”
Which was how, less than twenty-four hours later, Bethany was no longer Bethany Metford or Bethany Templeton, but Lady Bethany Soames, the Countess of Andover.
And that same night, she became Julius’s much loved and often ravished wife for the rest of their lives.
