“Are you going to tell me about his shipment?” I ask, needing to change the subject.
He nods, puffs on his cigar, then flick ashes in the ashtray. A cloud of white smoke lingers in the air. I beckon my soldier with the suitcase of money, and he slides it to Matteo. Matteo opens the suitcase, beams at the fresh crisp hundred bills, and slides the suitcase back to me.
“You don’t have to pay me. I owe you for what you did for my wife.” He scratches his chin. “His packages will arrive on Thursday at midnight. A few of my men will be there. Don’t kill any of them.”
“Thank you,” I say, standing up from the chair.
“No problem. You should have dinner with me and Jasmine. Bring your wife,” he says, with a smile on his face.
I nod. “Let me know and we’ll come.”
If I can get Roselyn to behave then I’ll bring her.
“I’ll give you a call, soon.”
Roselyn
INSANITY IS BECOMING MY BEST friend. For a week and a half, I’ve been waiting for Devious to kill me. I haven’t seen him since he forced me to suck his dick. I’d rather take physical abuse than mental abuse. The—I don’t know if I’m going to die today game—is fucking with me. Every time I see the elevator door open, my heart beats so hard I think it’s going to burst, and my adrenaline spikes every day. My anxiety is back in full force. I cry a big bucket of tears hoping and praying it’s not my last day on earth and Devious is forgiving as Jesus. I can’t stand sitting in pitch black hours and hours of the day. I can’t take living off bread and water, nor shitting and pissing in the bucket. I can’t take being treated less than a human being. Loneliness greets me like an old friend. Trying to kill Devious was a dumb move and I should have thought twice about doing it. I could have made my life a lot easier if I would be an obedient wife.
I sit on the thin cot with my hands wrapped around my legs and my chin resting on my knees. It feels like it’s been weeks since I saw the sunlight. I miss it. The warmth of it. I miss being able to sit on the balcony and people watch. Now, I stare at the wall, beating myself up about Tommy’s death.
Most of the time, all I think about is Tommy, my mother, and Nonno. I wonder if he’s getting his medication on time and if the nurses take care of him. I help pay for his medical bills and medication. And Papa doesn’t want to have anything to do with him, so I know he’s not looking out for him. Pain bubbles in my chest. Usually, I start my day with tears, but not today. I don’t think I have enough tears in me to cry.
I never thought I’d say this, but I miss living with Papa. Swallowing, my throat burns from screaming for Devious to let me out of the glass box. I hate the bastard with every fiber in my bones. Thet night plays in the back of my mind as he pretends to take care of me and the next, he’s sexually assaulting me. Maybe, I deserve it for trying to kill him. The lamp flickers on and the sound of the keypad clicks. Marla juggles a thin white clean sheets in her hands.
“You need to stand up.” Her tone is harsh. I stand up from the cot, dusting off my pajama pants. I haven’t had a real shower since I took one with Devious. Normally, the maid bathes me with cheap soap which makes my skin itchy and rinses me with icy water. Marla snatches the dirty gray sheets from the cot, tossing it to the floor then she unfolds the clean bed sheet, stretching across the mattress. “I’m assuming you’re here because you betrayed him.”
I don’t respond, twirling the end of my dry hair.
“You should have taken my advice.” She says, stepping away from the bed. “If you don’t get your shit together with my cousin, he will kill you, Roselyn. But, if you obey him and get on his good side, then he’ll be good to you. He’ll treat you like a queen.”
She pats me on the back. Anger boils in my chest and I dig my chipped nails into my palm.
“Why are you telling me this? It’s not like you give a fuck about me.”
She rests her hands on her hips, blowing out fine strands of hair out of her face. “Honestly, I’m trying to help because I want Devious to move on from Shelby. I want the old Devious back where he was happy, but ever since the bitch died, he’s been walking around like an empty shell.”
Devious being good and nice. That’s hard to believe.
“Did he force Shelby to marry him as well?”
She grabs the dirty grey sheets from the concrete, smiling sadly at me. “No. The wedding was arranged by their parents, but they went to high school together. They were high school sweethearts,” she pauses. “It’s time for you to shower.”
I follow her out to the elevator, and we stop by the laundry room and she stuffs the dirty linen in the hamper then we stroll to the small bathroom.
“Can I have some privacy?”
“No. Devious gave me instructions on not letting you out of my sight.”
Rolling my eyes, I yank down my cotton panties and sit on the toilet. The sound of urine hits the water as she turns the chrome knob on the shower. After I do my business, I undress and stare at my reflection as my eyes water. I don’t recognize myself. My skin is pale and broken by the welts with specks of blood on my ass. My lips are crack, and I appear as if I haven’t eaten in weeks. Sometimes, it hurts when I move or walk or sit.
Marla shakes her head.
“Do you think Devious is going to kill me?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. Sometimes his behavior is unpredictable.”
Devious ripped away a piece of me in so many ways. Making me watch Tommy die, choking me, beating me with the belt, leaving me in complete darkness and making me live off bread and water.
“Obviously, he has some kind of plan if he told me to bring you up here to shower.”
The sound of the water taps the gray pebbled floor.
I don’t recognize the girl who is staring back at me in the mirror. I used to be the girl who had a lot of fire inside of her, the girl thought about traveling the world and being a famous painter, who wanted to live life to the fullest, but Devious stomp the fire inside of her. Whatever he has planned for me, I hope he hurries with it, so I can be put out of misery.
I want to be free. The only way out of this is to earn his trust and if I earn his trust, he’ll give me freedom and if he gives me freedom, then I can come up with a plan to escape him. I know it’s stupid to try escape him and I’m digging a grave for myself. But, it’s the only way I can be set free from this hellhole.
Devious
My Father was cruel to me and treated his famiglia like shit. He didn’t beat my momma, but he sure ass hell beat the fuck out of Aiden and I as if we ruined his life. Whatever object he can find at the present moment, he would beat us with.
Momma neglected us to the point where she would forget to feed us and bathe us, because she was too busy fucking her bodyguard. I wasn’t sad when she died in a car accident six months ago. The tire popped and the car spun out of control, she ended up hitting a tree.
Enzo was like a father to me and I glance up to him. It was Enzo who used to help me clean my wounds. It was Enzo who tried to make my life a lot better. He counseled me through my nightmares. Every so often, I don’t sleep because of the vivid dreams of Draco torturing us. If I decide not to kill Roselyn and if she has my child, I’m going to make sure they won’t grow up in an abusive home.
I may be cruel, cold, and ruthless like Draco was. But I’m capable of love. I’m capable of loving Aiden. I love philosophy and Greek mythology. I love the rain on a summer day, art, and history. I love saving the environment.
But I’m not going to love Roselyn. I can’t afford it either. The last time I fell in love, I ended up killing Shelby. I end up losing the very few things I hold dear to my black heart.
I sit in my Black Bugatti waiting for Cashel to show to pick up the coke. Several minutes later, one of his underbosses gets out of the car, heads over to one of Matteo’s men and hands him a suitcase. Matteo’s men get into their vehicles and drive off.
As soon as I get out of the car, I grab my Glock from the holster a
nd add a silencer on the tip. My soldiers get out of the car and follow behind me. I aim my gun at the underboss, shooting him in both of his legs. Dark blood seeps into the concrete and he wails in pain. His soldiers shoot at us and my soldiers kill them one by one, their bodies dropping like flies on the concrete. I hurry to the underboss as he crawls to his gun, leaving a streak of blood.
“I’ll be taking this,” I say, stepping on his tan hand, digging the heel of my brown loafers into his flesh. He screams in agony and I take his gun, strap it in my holster.
“Damien, toss this piece of shit in the trunk.”
Nodding, Damien picks up the underboss, tossing him over his shoulders.
I get back in my car and dial Aiden’s number, but he doesn’t pick up. Forty-five minutes later, I pull up the driveway of his manor, park my car, and knock on the oak door.
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” He rubs his eyes, yawning.
“I have a gift for you,” I tell him. “Come with me.”
He follows me to the trunk, and I hit the button on the keypad. Aiden’s eyes light up with delight, displaying his grin.
“I figured you would enjoy a mini torture.” I pat him on the back.
“Hell yeah. I haven’t carved up a body since we chopped up the hitman’s body. My hands are itching to kill someone,” he pauses. “Where did you find this trash?”
“Matteo gave me the whereabouts of one of Cashel’s underbosses. Get in the car.”
I close the trunk as Aiden slides into the driver’s seat.
We drive for hours into the middle of nowhere, then Aiden stops the car. He hits the button, popping the trunk open.
The sky is hues of purples and orange with ripples of white clouds. The smell of trees are thick in the air. Perfect day to shed more blood.
We both get out of the car, stand in front of the trunk. The underboss tries to break free from the ropes, he’s tied up. I remove the rope from his mouth, and he screams at the top of his lungs.
“Shut the fuck up,” Aiden says, grabbing his gun from his sweatpants, pounding on his face with the handle. Bones cracks in his nose and blood colors his face bright red.
“Where is Cashel?” I ask.
“On Staten island.” He slurs on his words.
I grab his phone from his pocket and swipe the screen, pulling up the keypad. what’s his number?”
“Dial number one.”
I do what he says and tap the speaker button on the screen.
Cashel picks up on the second ring. “Yeah, Leon. Did you complete the trade?”
“No, you dip shit. He’s going to be dead in the next ten minutes,” I say.
“You miss me?” Cashel chuckles through the phone. “I bet Shelby would miss riding my dick. She had good pussy. Tell me if your new wife’s pussy is just as tight? I might have to sample her too,” he laughs louder. “She can ride my dick too as she tells me how lousy of a man you are toward her.”
I grip the phone so hard it might crack.
“You come anywhere near my wife and I slaughter you. Did you like the gift I sent you?” I grit through my teeth.
He ignores my question. “Call off the war, Cayden, or you’ll watch all your people die,” he threatens.
“Nope. You brought it on yourself, you betrayed me. You think you’re going to get away for what you did, you’re dumber than I thought.” I pace the dirt ground.
“There is something you should know. The baby Shelby was carrying wasn’t yours, it was mine.” His tone is low.
“Your fucking lying.” I spit.
“No. I’m not. She was going to tell you, but she didn’t get a chance.”
I hit the end button. My brain tries to process what he said.
Aiden glances at me in shock, but doesn’t say a word. My hands tremble and my pulse accelerates. After all I’ve done for Cashel and Shelby. I’m the one who helped build up Cashel’s businesses and I also was the one who help torture and kill his father, Declan for raping him in the asshole. And Shelby, I’m the one who paid her tuition for school and got her out of poverty.
I yank Leon out of the trunk onto the dirty ground, shooting him in the head. Meat and blood flies on my pants.
Aiden and I don’t say a word as I think about Cashel’s words. The baby was his and not mine. Cashel was my best friend and for him to do that shit to me is so fucking immoral.
“Draco had no business aligning with the Irish mob,” Aiden says. Pity shines in his eyes.
I don’t respond, pain pings in my chest and my throat becomes dry. I’m sorry for what happened to you, Santo. I’m sorry baby, boy.

ROSELYN SITS AT THE END of the bed with her head bowed. I type in the code and the door slides open and her cornflower blue eyes have lost their shine and are replaced with dullness.
“Please get me out of this cell. I promise I’ll be a good wife.” Her tone is on autopilot. Her words don’t do anything for me. I don’t believe her. This could be an act to get on my good side and she can think of another way to betray me.
Leaning against the glass door, I shove my hands in my black slacks. I’ve been invited to Risqué, a sex club for trafficked women and my brothels are short on women and I need to restock. Roselyn will be the eye candy on my arm tonight.
“Take off your clothes and crawl to me.”
She stares at me as if I grew three heads. “What?”
“You heard me. If you’re true to your words I want to see results.”
She grinds her teeth and nods. Slowly, she removes her white shirt and black jeans, then her lacey undergarments. She bites her lips as she gets on all four and crawls on the hard concrete, stopping at my feet.
“Kiss my shoe.”
Exhaling, she leans down and kisses the tip of my expensive loafers. Her cheeks turn bright pink.
“Get up,” I say, and she does what I say. “Put on your clothes. You’re going to be my date for tonight.”
“Where are we going?” She asks, putting on her clothes.
“Don’t worry about it.”
She follows me to the elevator. Once we get inside of the bedroom, she eyes the sexy lingerie and the silk robe.
“You’re wearing this.”
She takes off her clothes again and puts on the lingerie that exposes her pink nipples and there is a slit opening where her pussy is at. My dick gets hard from at her. She wiggles the robe on and I open a box of Louis Vuitton heels. Most women would be thrilled to receive expensive stuff, but not Nymph. She eyes the shoes like they are going to jump up and bite her.
“I don’t wear heels.”
“I don’t care,” I answer. “Sit on the bed.”
I grab the fishnet stockings, roll them up her legs, then I place the heels on her soft feet.
“Stand.”
I grab the shock collar from the dresser and place it around her neck.
We leave the manor and the car ride is filled with silence. Resting my hand on her thigh, I squeeze lightly. I’m going to fuck her tonight after the meeting whether she likes it or not. She’s going to be my pet and I’m going to tell her after the meeting. I decided not to kill her after all, until she gives me a reason to.
Her eyes trail to my face as she bites her lips.
“What happened to Shelby?” she asks out of the blue and my heartbeat gets faster.
How the fuck does she know about her? Marla must have run her mouth. I’m going to have a talk with her.
“Why the fuck is it any of your business?”
“Because I’m your wife and I deserve to know.” She taps the button on the side of the door, rolling down the window. The summer breeze fills the car and the city lights twinkle like stars.
“You have to earn the right to know my personal business. I don’t trust you, Roselyn. I know the minute I give you an inch you’re going to betray me. I’m not stupid.”
“You’re wrong,” she scoffs, twisting her body towards me. The short robe ri
des up and exposes her thigh and I want to bite it with my teeth and mark it with my cum. My dick grows hard as a rod and aches. Soon, I’ll have my cock buried in her virgin pussy soon.
“You think I like sitting in the dark for hours and hours of the day? You think I like eating bread three times a day? I don’t want to live in a glass cell.”
I ignore her. “When you get to the club, do not speak to another man. You ask for permission to speak. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
I rub the back of her head, getting my fingers entangled with her curls as I rest my other hand on the steering wheel. Every part of my body is tense. I pull up to the curve of the street, and I hand the valet my keys. As I grab Roselyn’s hand, she steps out of the car, then she closes her eyes, inhaling in deep, getting the waft of the city life. She hasn’t been seen outside in three weeks, so I let her enjoy the fresh air. When we stroll in the building, the music is loud and blaring and women are in cages dancing to a techno song. There are lounge chairs and beds and everyone is fucking like animals.
Roselyn clings to my dress pants for dear life as we make it upstairs. She watches everyone have sex and her skin is flush.
“Do you like to watch?” She doesn’t answer and I stop at the top of the wooden stairs, glaring down at her. “I asked you a question.”
“No, sir.” Her words are rushed and fast, but she frowns.
We make it to a red door and the bouncer opens it up. Creaser, the owner of the club, stands up from the poker table, holds out his hand and I firmly shake it. He takes one look at Roselyn and whistles. Her cheeks flushes but she keeps her head down. “Your pet is so beautiful.”
“Pet?” Roselyn snaps. “I’m not his fuc—”
“Roselyn!” I yell.
She shakes her head and stares down on the tacky ass crimson carpet.
“She’s my pet and wife.” I smirk and if looks could killed, I would be dead from the glares she’s throwing at me.
“She’s a little feisty,” he says, winking at Roselyn and my blood fucking boil. He stares at her as if she’s a piece of meat. “She can go for three million.”
