“I will. I promise,” nodded Miles.

Pulling him in for a rough embrace, George pounded his back and released him.

  “Go with God, Miles.”

Nodding, unable to speak from the emotion, Miles mounted, taking his place next to Phillipe and Meggie. The Root and Shield stood next to George.

  “God speed, Miles,” Owain said.

“May angels guide your steps, your blade and your heart,” the Root added.

“I’ll prove myself,” he told her.

“Oh, you’ve done that,” she smiled. “Now, prove it to yourself.”

He nodded and they went to Root Raoul who nodded.

“I’ve never trained an Englishman,” he stated.

“The English Roses are strong, oncle,” she replied. “They’ve had to be to survive.”

“And now with their Root, they will thrive again,” he replied bowing.

She bowed her head in return, stepping back with her Shield and George to join the others on the steps.

Root Raoul raised his hand. “For the Rose!”

The shout came from everywhere, startling a few sleeping birds.

  “For the Rose!”

  About the author

Family lore says Abby was telling stories to her stuffed animals and dolls as soon as she could speak. Then she learned to put pencil to paper, much to the delight of future English teachers, although not for teachers of other subjects. History has fascinated her ever since her father told her ‘if you want to understand why a country is acting the way it is you must understand its history.’ The myths surrounding secret societies piqued her interest as well so it was only a matter of time before everything combined to become the Order of the Rose.

The third, The Lost Rose, tells of Etienne's quest, with Armand at his side, to recover Marianna from the fortress of the Sons of Scion.
