BOOTY HUNTER
Page 26
But after writing non-fiction for a few years I decided to see if I could write fiction. I am a HUGE science fiction fan so naturally my first series was new adult science fiction back in 2012. That series was called I Am Just Junco and while it never really sold a ton of copies, it has a small, fanatical cult-following. I promised people more Junco after the last book and they never stopped asking for that book when it didn’t get written. I had moved on to contemporary romance and dark romance and so there never seemed to be time to write any more stories in the Junco world.
Also, I didn’t really have another Junco story. I tried writing another one a few times and it just wasn’t there. I never got past twenty thousand words and it never seems to go anywhere. So for a long time I just gave up and figured… well, maybe I’m done in the SF world? Maybe that’s all there was?
Then right around New Year’s 2019 I got this new idea for a sexy SF series. A bunch of bounty hunter brothers living on this outlaw station where they collect runaway princesses. And I thought to myself… OK. I can work with that. And from there the story came out like it did in the Junco days. I just fell in love with these boys, and these girls, and the station, and the AI, and the bots and yeah. This is what I like to write most of all.
And it’s not like I didn’t kinda write other SF stuff in the interim period after Junco and before Harem Station, because I did. I wrote three books in the Anarchy series about sexy supervillains and that was a lot of fun (and the story is actually really cool).
But… there’s always a but. I realized that I could not write both contemporary romance and SF romance and keep my regular romance fans happy. The sexy SF books REPLACED the contemporary romance books and then the wait between new cont romance books got to be too long.
So I stopped the Anarchy series and for the last two years I’ve only been writing cont romance.
Plus I was doing other things. I partnered up with Johnathan McClain to write a pilot for a TV series, and we started writing books together too, and now—just last week—we actually have a second TV show deal. So I just kinda gave up on the SF for a while.
But when I realized that Booty Hunter was a “thing”. Like… it was another Junco, just not Junco, I decided to find a way to keep this going.
And that way is this:
Get a pen name. People always ask why authors use pen names and sometimes it’s because they want to be anonymous but sometimes, like in my case, it’s because they have already cultivated a reading audience with EXPECTATIONS.
Right? My readers expect me to deliver dark, twisted, sexy romance. That’s what I gave them all these years and that’s pretty much why they stick around. So releasing books under the JA Huss name like the Anarchy series just confuses them. And then you lose some, right? They see me going another direction and they go find someone else to give them what they’re looking for.
So I didn’t want to do that to my loyal readers.
I needed to find a way to keep delivering JA Huss books if I wanted to write more sexy science fiction and my solution was to get another author name (KC Cross) while still releasing books under JA Huss.
Also, to work harder. Like crazy harder.
I’ve done nothing but write the first three months of 2019. I have literally written almost 400,000 words since January 2019 when I came up with this plan.
This book won’t release until the last week of May and that’s two months from now as I write this EOBS, so I’ve been holding on to this book (and several others) trying to set this whole pen name strategy up.
About a week ago I finished the free prequel book about Crux and Corla’s early days (called Star Crossed) and right now I’m in the middle of writing Harem Station book two, Jimmy’s book called Big Dicker. By the time Booty Hunter releases the last week of May I will be writing book five. Because I like to be consistent, I want to release them once a month AND I want to release JA Huss books too.
So I’ve found a way to trade off. Write a sexy SF book, then write a contemporary romance, then another SF book, then another CR—you get the idea.
Which means… starting very soon I will be able to release one book in each genre every single month. Probably for at least a year.
Harem Station series has six books total but there will be a five-book spin-off series about Angel Station after this one is done. And then after that there will be another spin-off series that I’m not going to tell you about just yet.
PLUS… if you’re into paranormal romance more than you are SF romance, then good news. I have a three-book vampire series that will release in October. And OK, you think you’ve read every kind of vampire story you can think of, right?
Wrong. Um, I’m not bragging, OK? I’m just telling you right now you have never read vampires like these guys I’m writing. A totally new way to look at the vampire mythos. And did I mention it was SUPER SEXY? It is. :)
If you’re only reading Booty Hunter because it was on sale and you really prefer my contemporary romances, good news for you too! I will release a new sexy romance every month as well. They will be slightly shorter than what you’re used to getting from me—about 250 pages instead of 350, but that’s the trade off I had to live with in order to write 350 page sexy SF books.
But more good news—while the sexy SF books will remain at $3.99 pricing (unless I’m running a release week sale), the new, shorter contemporary romances will all be priced at $2.99 or LESS.
See, everyone’s happy. :)
So you’re all caught up on why I’ve suddenly made all these recent changes.
This is why.
I want to write both genres. I want to release often. I want to keep people happy. And I want to find new readers.
So now that that’s out of the way, I have a few more things to tell you about Booty Hunter. I am already anticipating a bunch of questions from my Junco fans so I’m just going to address those here in the Booty Hunter EOBS to make things simple.
First question I’m going to get from my Junco fans is:
IS THIS A JUNCO BOOK?
No. But yes.
It’s in the same world and if you read Junco you’ve seen some familiar things. The autocook and autoshopper, for one. I had an austocook in the Anarchy series too, but sadly, no autoshopper. Also, the mention of a station called Angel should make you nervous. ;) There was a lot of talk of angels in Junco and none of it was good. No, I’m not heading in that direction with this series, but there is a reason it’s called Angel Station and we’ll get to that eventually.
All the AI stuff should feel familiar because the Junco series had quite a few AI’s. Almost all of them were trouble, even HOUSE. So you can expect all the AI’s in this series to behave the same way.
Another question might be:
WILL YOU EVER CONNECT THE JUNCO CHARACTERS TO THE HAREM STATION SERIES?
Probably not. But then again maybe I will. I don’t know yet. If I do, it probably won’t be soon. BUT… if you think I forgot about Gideon, Isten, Braun, and Mish—you’re wrong. I haven’t. I know for sure Isten and Gideon WILL be back some day. They might not be together in the same series, but they will be back. I have a plan for Isten even though I promised you Gideon’s story first. Gideon has to wait. That story just hasn’t appeared in my head yet. I have thought about Isten a LOT. For like two and half years I’ve been piecing together his story, what happened to him after Junco ended, and where he might be on this Harem timeline.
DOES THIS STORY HAPPEN IN THE SAME TIME LINE AS JUNCO?
One hundred percent NO. This is far, far future stuff. Junco was near-future. But the cool thing about many of the Junco characters was that they were immortal. If you read the prequel to Booty (Star Crossed) you will get some hints as to where I’m heading in this series. I don’t want to spoil anything in this EOBS for the prequel and books to come, so that’s all I’m gonna say about that.
If you have more questions please feel free to join my fan group on Facebook called SHRIKE BIKES. Just ask to
join and someone will add you. You can ask me anything you want in that group and I will personally answer your question. I read EVERY POST. Every day. So, seriously, if you have a question please ask it in the group.
Also, KC Cross has a website! Please check it out HERE.
OK, I guess that’s it for this EOBS. I didn’t swear very much and I didn’t say anything controversial, so maybe this one is boring! Hah.
And don’t forget to pick up your FREE (absolutely fucking FREE) PREQUEL BOOK to the Harem Series. THIS INCLUDES AUDIO! So if you’re an audio fan grab this for free HERE at AudFans. (No log-in required)

Twenty years before Serpint brought Queen Corla home to Harem Station she met Crux for the very first time. They were destined to be soul mates but could never be together. All they had was just one night.
This is the story of Crux and Corla and how all the outlaw brothers came to reside on Harem Station. Meant to be read after Booty Hunter and before Big Dicker, it contains a star-crossed love story and secrets that are as deep and dark as space itself.
