The community came out, and the small party that I thought was going to be for a few people was far bigger than I could have imagined. The day meant a lot not only to me, but to the people of Shady Way as well. It was the day of their liberation. No longer would businesses be bribed, and citizens wouldn’t have to live in fear any longer. Real justice ruled here now. I had Baron by my side, and it didn’t get any better than that.

The party was mid-way through, and Baron and I were having a drink at the bar when an older man came up to us.

“Baron, it is good to finally meet you.”

Baron didn’t know who he was because of the expression on his face. I had never seen the man before either, but that feeling in my gut was back. Whoever this guy was, he was here for a reason, and I wasn’t sure what that was.

  “Yes, and you are?”

“I’m your father, Baron, Nick Scotia. I’ve been looking for you for a while. I just found out about you a few months ago when I ran into your mom again. She told me everything, and I’ve been trying to find you ever since.”

Baron was in shock, and I wasn’t far beyond that. I knew that Baron had been looking for years, and now he was standing in front of him.

“How do I know if you’re really my dad or not?”

He moved in close, and I could barely hear what he was saying to his son.

“Well, let’s just say that we have something in common that’s hard to ignore. You have that ring around your eyes. You’ve gone through the change by now, haven’t you?”

Baron made a sound in the back of his throat, and the two men hugged. The party was raging around us, but in this small moment, the two men were meeting for the first time. I was touched beyond words, so happy that he’d finally found someone to talk to about it. Baron was finally going to know where he came from. I had news of my own. We were about to start our own family, and now we’d both know what to expect. This time around, everything was going to work out. I wasn’t going to let it be any other way.

And from my view, it didn’t get much better than this to start.
