Many of my books are about difficult choices—and Ross has an important one to make. We are often a product of our upbringing, and since I had to give Ross a decent reason for following the likes of MacKinnon, I deliberately made his childhood a difficult one, so that we understand his ambitious streak and dogged loyalty to the vile Duncan MacKinnon. I love a good ‘reformed rogue’ story (who doesn’t have a soft-spot for bad boys?), so Ross was a fascinating character to write. In contrast to Gavin MacNichol from Book #1, Ross has a bit of growing to do—fortunately Leanna helps him with that.
I realize you’ve probably got your knives out for MacKinnon (he’s a revolting individual, I know!), but since he’s the arch-villain of the whole series, I have to keep him alive for a while longer. Bear with me—his downfall will be worth the wait!
MacKinnon’s behavior in the book was unforgivable. Rape—attempted or otherwise—isn’t easy to write about. And even though I have Leanna taking control in that scene, it made her romance with Ross harder to write.
Unlike UNFORGOTTEN, this novel doesn’t spend much time at Kilbride Abbey. However, expect to return there for Book #3, as Coira and Craeg’s story will unfold around the goings-on at Kilbride. I’m so excited to share the final book in this series with you—if you thought AWOKEN was dramatic, FALLEN is going to blow your mind!
