“Talinka, I’m in our bedroom at home. I’m waking you up with a kiss. Do you remember our last kisses?”
Talia was still drowsy, but she sat bolt upright. The memory of their last sexual encounter enveloped her momentarily. Her body tingled as she felt currents coursing through her flesh.
“Jonathan, it’s you! How lovely...”
“Talia, have the kids gone out?” His voice sounded infinitely cheerier and heartier than when he’d parted.
“Yes, Jenny took them for a walk. My fatigue makes it hard for me to get up in the morning. But I’m feeling much better, really.”
“I shouldn’t have left, Talin.”
“Nonsense, Yoni, I’m fine.”
“Are you, really? What would you like me to bring back from home?” “Bring me my pink shoes, the ones you bought me to go with the pink Chanel outfit. I need them for Saturday, for the dinner at Orit’s house. They’re in the shoe drawer in the closet.”
“Is that all?”
“Yes, or perhaps a kid’s video for Udi. Oh, and I just remembered, my blow dryer. I can’t get used to the new one here. Now, what’s been happening with you, Jonathan? How are you passing the time?”
“Your mother pampers me, her liebchen, from morning to night, with omelets and wienerschnitzels as only she knows how to prepare. Her boyfriend, Heinz, is quite a guy actually. I must say it was a good idea letting him stay in the apartment...”
“But what about Nahum? Did you settle everything?”
“It’s not so simple, but I’m working on it. We sat and talked with the people, and tomorrow I’m seeing them again. Then Saturday evening, I’m taking Orna out to a restaurant. She’s here on a short visit from New York. I miss you, Talinka. If I manage to wrap things up here, I’ll fly back Saturday night.
Orna? She felt a pang in her heart. Jonathan had always like Orna. “Great, Jonathan. Come back soon. I love you.”
“I love you more. A thousand kisses, my angel. I’m on my way.”
