He tasted fine. Tasted of Italian spices and manly man. Maybe a hint of wine. A mint? Maybe. Whatever it was, she didn’t want to give him up. She returned his kiss with all the gusto she was feeling inside.
He kissed her until the doors opened. They both stepped out into the hallway on the fifth floor. He pressed her against the wall, seemingly unwilling to release her and slipped his hard body against hers. His body pushed against hers, letting her feel his very real erection. He kept pushing at her as though he couldn’t get close enough to her.
Neither could she get close enough to him.
They barely inched down the hall as they couldn’t keep themselves away from each other to make any progress.
The only problem with that was that it was going to take forever to get to his room and she wanted to be with him now.
His room seemed to call up a quandary in her mind but she couldn’t think as to why that would catch her attention. She couldn’t think long before she got lost in the embrace again with him against her.
She met him kiss for kiss and pushed back against him until he groaned in abandon. Her reward. He was as turned on as she was. Had to be to make that sound so low, almost like a growl, not a groan.
He pushed against her even more. “Just wait until I get you back in my room. “ Suddenly, he froze.
Voices.
Sounds seem to come from behind the wall, echoing around them with light strains of laughter.
They stayed pressed against each other. Kept hands stroking and ears open. Waiting. Didn’t want the interruption but it would come regardless. Or would it?
The voices passed by the door to the stairwell. Didn’t stop. Didn’t linger. Kept on moving away and up the steps. Until a beautiful, blessed silence descended on them both.
They were alone again.
They’d almost been caught. All it would have taken was one furtive look through the glass window in the gray, steel door to spot them.
A funky thrill went through her. Making out was one thing. Making out and being caught was something quite different. It was like being in high school and making out in your boyfriend’s basement. Or at least, playing video games when you both were grounded for playing too much in the first place.
“Almost.” His lips drifted against hers and touched her again. “That counts only in horse shoes.” His touch ran her through to her soul. He was better than a pirate’s cutlass and twice as sharp. “When I get you back to my room…just wait.” Then, he froze again. Said something under his breath.
She listened but heard no more approaching voices. Silence still reigned. She pulled her mouth completely free of his and said, “What’s wrong?” Maybe he’d thought of reasons not to be with her.
“Baxter.”
Not the response she’d expected. Why would he bring up that name at a time like this? “Baxter?” What was he doing there? She tried to peek around Joel to see if Baxter were in the hallway. He wasn’t. “Is he here?” She didn’t see him. Couldn’t imagine that Baxter had the stealth to sneak up on them.
Joel pulled completely away from her, divesting his body from hers in one swift movement. “No, he’s not here. Dammit.” He crossed his arms over his chest as he moved further away from her. He swore a little in what sounded like Japanese. Why would he be upset Baxter wasn’t here?
“What?” This was a hell of a time to bring up his erstwhile roommate and fellow online gamer… Roommate? Wait a minute. That was why she’d thought about the room being a problem earlier. “You and Baxter are sharing a room here at the hotel.” Like they shared an apartment. Her fingernails bit into her palm.
Joel looked morose. “Yes. Yes, we are.” His hands clenched again and again as though they were clams opening and closing for the sea. “One hotel room. Two beds. But…he doesn’t have anywhere else he’d be comfortable staying. Or anyone he’d be comfortable sharing a room with.” He didn’t look happy about it, no matter how matter of factly he said the words. He wasn’t removed from this situation. Not at all. He was just as invested in it as she was.
She could see what he’d said about Baxter. Baxter was too much like her. She wouldn’t be comfortable sharing a room with any of the online buddies she didn’t know either. Except for Joel. He was the exception to so many rules. “Ahh.” She patted Joel’s arm. He got points for thinking of his friend. Despite the halt to their amorous encounter. Leave it to fickle timing for him to remember this now. Only maybe this didn’t have to end…
“Home, it’s not a problem. We have a signal. But it’s only one room here and a small one at that. Dammit.” He stared down at the floor. “I can’t ask him to give up his room for the night. Not even for this. Dammit.”
She waited for him to ask her the next logical question. She soon realized he wasn’t going to ask her squat. For whatever reason, he would make her offer the only way they could continue the evening. “We could always go to my room.” She bit her lip after the words drifted out there. Maybe he’d been looking for an excuse not to be with her?
His head swung around. Delight centered on his features as well as surprise. He must not have considered asking her. Such a smart man to not consider all the options they had available. Course he was probably having blood flow problems, minimizing blood to his brain if the cock standing up under his jeans was any indication. “Your room?” His voice croaked with excitement that wasn’t concealed.
Least he was excited at her offer. “My room.” She nodded to make the point that she was offering up her room. She’d move fire and earth to get this man tonight. Deal with consequences of her actions in the morning when the sun came up.
“You don’t have a roommate?” He moved closer to her but not close enough. She wanted to go back to where they’d been before. “Didn’t share a room with anyone?” He seemed to be clarifying the question.
She shook her head. “I’m a single. In a double bed.” She’d thought of the advantages to the hotel only having bigger beds for one person rooms. This was an advantage that she’d never considered.
“I figured you’d have shared a room.” His expression seemed wry. “But I’m glad you didn’t.”
She didn’t know anyone that well, but him. He’d already been sharing space with Baxter nor had he known she was coming, so she hadn’t even asked him. There was no one else she was comfortable sharing a room with. Yes, she had more in common with Baxter than she cared to admit. “I’m glad to.” She patted her pocket. “Shall we adjourn this to my room?”
Chapter Five
Joel didn’t answer but promptly kissed her silly. Had to be the kiss that got her giggling as they wound their way back to the elevator. Or maybe it was how they must look. Neither wanted to let go of the other long enough to walk down the hall. So they sidled like crabs to the elevator.
This time when the door opened, two Klingons, aliens from Star Trek, resided at the back of the elevator.
One of them curled his mouth up in a grimace at Joel and Sam as they entered. “Humans.” He then said something in Klingon dialect.
Sam pushed the eight button.
Joel didn’t let her go even after he was on the elevator with the Klingons glaring at them. He spoke in the same language the man had just spoken.
The Klingon leaned back his head and belted out a laugh. More words were said in the foreign tongue. He clapped Joel on the shoulder before he and his buddy got off on the seventh floor.
She glanced at Joel before the doors shut. “What did you say to him?” She needed to brush up on her Klingon.
“I said it wasn’t a good day to die because we hadn’t…” Joel scrunched up his nose. “…ummm well, mated yet. But that I had a beautiful woman at my side so it was a good day. That’s a loose translation.”
She rolled her eyes and stepped away from Joel. “I can’t believe you told him that. In Klingon.” She pushed at his chest as the doors opened again. Her floor. The moment of truth. She’d have to open her door and take this man into her hotel roo
m. Then, there would no going back. She was going to have sex. With Joel.
“Hey I didn’t lie.” Joel pulled her back against him as they exited from the elevator. “I do have a beautiful woman at my side.”
Sam’s knees knocked together. Every guy she’d dated had waxed poetic about her looks. But their poetry didn’t mean as much as that simple statement. Her stomach bottomed out to those shaking knees. She kissed him back with a fervor all her own.
Somehow they reached her hotel room without running into anyone else. And without letting go of the other.
But to get the door open required her to get into her pockets. Not an easy feat when a man was pressed tight against you and you didn’t want to lose that contact.
Finally, she did have to push against his chest. “I need to get my key out.” Damn hotels for going with the credit card keys too. A smaller key would have come from her pocket without having to disengage.
He moved his body away but not his mouth. They continued to kiss and let their tongues play as she managed to get the key from her pocket.
And promptly dropped it on the floor.
“Shit.” She tried to peek on the floor and see where it had gone. No luck. She couldn’t find the damn thing.
He moved his lips away from hers.
Her swollen and needy lips tingled with the roughness of his kisses. Her breasts felt suddenly tender too. As though her bra confined them too strictly and they wanted out. They felt swollen too.
He glared at her as she hesitated bending down to retrieve what would get them into the promised land. “Get. The. Key.”
Oh yes, she was supposed to be doing something. Not just sitting there like a bump on a log. She winced at the frustration in his voice. “Oh.” She pushed him further away and managed to bend down and snag the wayward key.
One insertion and a green light later, they were inside the cool hotel room. She’d left the air conditioning on because she liked a cold room to sleep in.
He shut the door behind them. Slung the chain lock into place as though they needed more than a locked door to keep out the world outside that door. If it were up to her, she’d barricade the door too like they were facing some zombie attack. But there might be an easier solution.
She grabbed the “Do Not Disturb” sign, unlocked the door, put it outside on the doorknob, and locked it back with the chain too.
He shook his head and grabbed for her. “I knew there was a reason I lov…liked you.” He moved in to press his body against her.
A minor slip of the tongue. No way he could be in love with her yet. But it sure made her heart beat like a race car engine to even hear the start of those words toward her.
“So where were we?” she asked, as his hands touched her skin, igniting fires. Nothing could quell this raging volcano inside of her. Fuck sacrificing a virgin to quell a volcano. She hadn’t been one of those in a while anyways. Perhaps the only thing that could quell her heat was being with him in the most intimate of ways. It was worth a shot to see.
His lips snagged hers, running his tongue against the seam of her lips before pulled back to say, “Right here.”
*
His world was swimming upstream and he couldn’t get a handle on the direction. He wanted to be too many places at one time. Wanted to do so much that he couldn’t even keep track. This needed to be perfect and he’d never worship her just right no matter what he did. She deserved to be a goddess served by a god. He was far from a god. He’d have to do the best he could. Was he going forward despite his shortcomings? Oh, yeah.
He looked down into her face as he pulled away. Yes, she deserved so much that he couldn’t begin to keep track.
Her eyes glowed up with cerulean fire. Her hair glowed golden in the lights from above the bed.
The bed.
One bed. That he was about to share with her. That he was about to make love to her on. Samatra300. Samantha.
He took a deep breath. His biggest challenge and he was up for it. So up for it that he hurt a little.
He took both hands and ran them along her cheeks as he kissed her. Such smooth skin. One hand drifted down her slender neck. He began the inching of their way toward the bed, even as he kept kissing her thoroughly.
Couldn’t wait to get her onto the bed.
Naked even.
Against him.
Pliable.
In his arms.
He groaned against her lips. Enjoyed the place where they met and lips touched. The sensations rolled through him.
She stopped as they finally reached the bed. Her knees shook a little as the mattress touched the back of her leg.
He pulled his lips away from hers and rained kisses down upon her neck. He nibbled the pulsing vein in her throat, enjoying the shivers that he induced. He nibbled back up to her ear and slowly flicked his tongue in and out of the orifice.
Her body straightened, and he heard her swallow.
The motion was much like he’d be doing later with his hard cock. He couldn’t wait…
He broke from her ear. “Dammit.” Probably said a little too loud against her ear. First the room situation, now this. It was like someone was conspiring to keep throwing kinks into their sex life. Not the fun kind either.
She blinked down at him. “What?”
“Do you have…protection?” He held his breath, waiting for the answer. If she did, they’d not have to stop this.
Her mouth opened into a small “oh.” “No.” She bit her lip between white teeth. “I don’t have anything. I’m on the pill…”
But that didn’t do anything about other things, not to mention sometimes double the birth control was well worth it. Only it meant leaving her… He frowned. “I don’t have anything either.”
“At all? Or just not on you?”
“At all.” He met her gaze with a grin that probably looked sheepish. “I didn’t exactly expect…you know…to have sex while I was here.” He’d never expected to get laid at a convention like this. Maybe he should have. He did know some gamers who had hooked up in real life. But not at a convention. Not like this.
“The hotel store…probably sells them. I mean they sell tampons.” Her eyes widened and a flush spread up her cheeks.
He nodded. “I know. I’ll be right back. Do not go away.” He dashed for the door and waved his hand at her. “Seriously, don’t go away.” Least they hadn’t been naked. That would have been a real ball buster.
Her laughter was light and followed him out the door along with her comment. “I’m not going anywhere. Just hurry.”
He ran for the elevator and pressed the button. “Come on. Come on. Come on.” It was taking too long. He blessed the transportation out a few times, then tried the door to the staircase. It opened. He smacked the handle and opened it all the way. What was eight flights of steps?
As he skipped steps down to the bottom of the stairs, he could honestly say, “Nothing.” He didn’t feel winded at all. After all, he had the promise of sex to keep him focused on his goal.
Condoms.
He ran into someone going into the store in his attempt to get in front of them. “Sorry.” That hadn’t worked out so well.
They grunted back at him, muttering something. He didn’t care what they’d said. He glanced quickly back and forth at colorful shelves. Condoms, where would they be? He found them near the pain reliever and tampons. How much marketing went into that product placement? But at least they weren’t behind the counter.
Large. Regular. Lubed. Ribbed.
Why did they have so many damned choices? He just wanted a condom. He finally grabbed ribbed, figuring she might like that and located the register.
The clerk had a knowing smirk as he rang them up. “Want them in a bag?” His lip curled. “Or you just going to carry them?”
Joel tossed him money. “Carry.” They would be open soon as he hit the door to her hotel room.
The cashier handed him the change with an eyebrow raised. “Have a nice even
ing. Looks like you will be.”
Joel grabbed the condoms from the counter and dashed off. He opened the door at the same time a woman that looked familiar did. “Oh, excuse me.”
“crosscounty500…” The voice purred at him with all the insufferability that it could muster. “Joel…”
He shook his head. She was in his gaming group maybe? Yeah, that was it. A new person he’d been talking to for a while now. “Sorry. I…gotta run. Catch you later.” He didn’t give her time to argue but loped away, even as he heard her voice calling after him.
He reached the lobby and found two people already waiting. Didn’t bode well for the elevator. He eyed the door to the stairs. He was about to take that route again when the ding told him the elevator had arrived.
Of course the two people got on with him and their floors were before eight. Of course the doors seemed to stay open an inordinately long time after each person got off. Damn, couldn’t this thing go any faster?
He ran off the elevator as soon as the doors opened on the 8th floor.
Now what was her room number?
He looked, trying to remember where he had come from. Only he’d been in such a hurry, he hadn’t noticed. When he’d headed for her hotel room, his eyes had barely been open. His mouth had been all over hers. He had no idea what direction he’d gone while he’d been kissing her, much less what door it was.
He looked both ways down the long hallway.
Her room was along here somewhere. What was the number? He just had to recall the information from his conscious mind and he’d be set.
723?
Yes, that was it! He hurried to the door and knocked enthusiastically. He brandished the condoms in front of him.
The door started to open. Before it revealed anyone, he said, “I’m bac…” He broke off, looking at the bored looking woman with a champagne flute in one hand who opened the door. “Sorry, wrong room.”
She muttered something about sci-fi conventions and slammed the door as he moved away.
