A Monster for Two Bears
Page 23
Kai met Lane’s stare in the mirror.
“What we want… is for you to be happy,” Lane whispered.
Turi didn’t respond. He turned back in his seat and stared out the passenger window as the valley raced past.
Kai pulled their SUV onto the gravel lane up the mountain and soon pulled up before the cabin. He went to work rebuilding their fire as soon as they were inside, focusing on that heat instead of the fire in his blood.
“Snow’s coming down real good. We might be stuck in here a few days,” Lane said from his spot at the window. “Good thing I stocked up this morning. We should be set.”
Kai had cut wood the days before, his nose telling him a storm was brewing. He’d stacked it up on the porch and brought a bunch inside. “And we’ll be warm. Let it snow.”
He rose to his full height and stared down into the crackling embers, watching Turi from the corner of his eye.
Turi was acting cagey. Finally he disappeared into the bathroom.
Kai caught Lane’s stare. “You think he’s good?”
Lane shrugged. “Maybe one of us should stay awake at all times tonight. Take shifts. Just in case.”
“Maybe,” Kai sighed, hating that they were still worried at this point if their mate would run from them.
Even if this time felt different.
When the bathroom door opened, Turi emerged.
Naked.
Kai turned to fully face their mate, the heat he’d felt earlier sparking into an inferno.
“You two saw me at my most naked tonight at the farmhouse—and you didn’t seem to flinch. But I need to know…” He paused, frowning. “I need to know that you still want me.”
“Of course we want you,” Lane murmured.
“These last few weeks… I haven’t sensed the same desire I first did.”
“Because we’ve buried it,” Kai spat. “You needed time to heal.”
“I feel better now,” Turi whispered. “Because of you both.”
Kai glanced at Lane and then back at Turi before he took a step forward. “Are you sure you’re ready?”
“I am,” Turi said, shaking his head confidently. “I want you to claim me.”
Kai gasped as lust slammed into him. His bear roared within his mind, definitely approving of Turi’s statement.
Turi climbed into the middle of the large bed and turned to look at them expectantly.
Lust threatened to take Kai’s breath away.
“So? Do you want me?”
* * * *
Turi swallowed back the fear he felt. Neither of his mates took one step. Their faces were blank masks and showed no emotions. Had he assumed they’d passed their test only to learn they would now refuse their claim on him?
Had meeting Cal and Cameron and being faced with his truth been too much for them to handle? He closed his eyes, tears burning the backs of his eyes—and then he heard something drop.
When Turi reopened his eyes, he saw Kai’s other shoe fall to the floor. Both men were peeling their clothing off, their hands shaking. A laugh of relief escaped Turi, and he smiled at them. Smiles began to form on both their handsome faces… and more and more of their delicious bodies were exposed by the second.
Kai won the race and slid into the bed beside him seconds before Lane. Their hands and lips were on him in an instant, tasting and caressing him all over. Turi closed his eyes again, this time in delight. Their touch was all he’d craved for weeks and now he was getting what he wanted.
He wanted them.
Sighing, he reveled in their warmth, their touch, and their scents. He could smell their lust, just as he could sense it in the urgency of their fingers. Reopening his eyes, he met first Lane’s stare and then Kai’s.
There was more here than lust… he could see the emotion in their eyes. Could they feel for him what he felt for them? He wanted a future with the men he’d already fallen in love with a long, long time ago.
And maybe… just maybe… he’d want a family with them down the road. He knew the claiming to come might result in a child. There was a chance it could happen. He was aware of bear mating rituals. Two brother bears claiming their mate. A true claiming was them both inside him, their seed together and unprotected. It could produce a child.
In glimmer of panic hit his belly… but he let it go.
This child would be born of love, of his choice. It was nothing like the times before when he’d been forced. Now… now he was in control.
And his lovers were his mates, men who weren’t forced to touch him but relished in it. They touched him with reverence and desire, and made him feel loved.
Languid hours they prepared him for the act to come, reminding him of the day he’d awakened in Chicago. They painstakingly built a slow fire within him, making him gasp and beg them to consume him. Still, they licked and tasted him, drawing him to the edge—only to pull him back again and refuse the crashing of his orgasm.
When they finally came into him, two thick cocks spearing within, he cried out, riding the edge of pleasure and pain. There was more pleasure than pain—they’d done their jobs well, readying him for what they brought. They’d gotten him to the point of no return.
Kai swallowed his first aching sobs that eventually turned into moans of pleasure. After changing position, Lane had the chance to kiss his lips as Kai drove deep within. Before it was all over, Turi claimed Lane’s body as his own, his cock tight inside his mate’s ass as Kai filled him, as well.
They did not take from him.
They only gave.
All of themselves.
And even more… a child that would grow within Turi’s body.
Deep in the night, not long before the sun began its ascent over Bear Mountain, they collapsed in a heap—a tangle of arms and legs.
Turi was in the middle, content.
Knowing he was loved. There hadn’t been words, but he knew in action and the looks on their faces.
In the light of their eyes…
He drifted off to the sounds of their hearts beating in his ears, a smile on his face.
Turi felt their love surrounding and filling him.
Finally, he accepted it, letting him fill him and wash away the darkness.

A little later…
Kai stared down at his sleeping males, a smile on his lips. Both Lane and Turi were tangled together, looking like angels sleeping in the moonlight. He reached out and caressed Turi’s lips and then Lane’s, hungry for more kisses, but he dared not wake them.
The night had been an emotional rollercoaster. They all needed rest.
He glanced out the window and could see the snow still coming down fast. Kai smiled. It was the perfect time for a snow-in.
A flash of light outside caught his attention. Slipping out of the bed, he grabbed his robe and wrapped it tight before sneaking out onto the porch to see what the light had been. Glancing into the air, he saw the stars and smiled at the clarity. He’d missed watching the night sky in the city.
“About time you came home, boy.”
Kai lowered his stare and saw his father.
Gregor.
He inhaled a shaky breath, his knees just as unstable.
His father took a step forward, and Kai realized Gregor was slightly translucent. He could see the glistening snow through the image. His footfalls didn’t crunch in the snow or leave footprints, either.
Kai rubbed his eyes, sure he was seeing things. When he moved his hands, his father was still there. “How… how are you here?”
“A lot of favors had to be made,” Gregor said, grinning. “But it’s worth it. This visit needs to be made.”
“Why’s that?”
“I know what my sons think of me,” Gregor said. “And for some of it, it’s due. I deserve it.”
Kai didn’t say anything. He couldn’t. His dead father had just confessed to his own failures.
“I inherited a den in chaos. Just like you boys, I learned dark secre
ts about my own father and the things he did behind closed doors. I tried to clean up my father’s messes. I did. But I wasn’t strong enough to fix all the things that needed fixing. I sensed Declan could. He has the heart… the strength… everything this den deserved in a leader.”
“So you knew what was going to happen? You went to your own death?”
“I had a good idea. And I hoped. It turned out pretty good in the end.”
Kai grew sad. “What about me? LJ? We needed you.”
“No. You didn’t. You were on the cusp of being men. You just needed a good push out of the nest. Things might’ve gone a bit sideways for a while… Benny was a mistake… but you’re on the right track now. That omega of yours is perfect for you both and will give me strong grandchildren.” He smiled. “LJ’s moment is about to come.”
Kai frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Just know I love you, son. I always did. I always will.” Gregor smiled and was gone.
“Father!”
A cold breeze washed over Kai and left him shaking. The door to the cabin opened, and Lane came out, wrapped in a blanket.
“Who were you talking to?”
“Gregor,” he whispered.
Lane smiled, looking a little sad. He glanced around, as if he didn’t quite believe Kai. “And what did he have to say?”
Kai hugged his brother bear. “We’re going in the right direction. For once. And everything’s going to be okay now.”
Lane smiled, cocking one brow. “Good. I’m glad to hear it.”
Kai ushered a shivering Lane back inside before they both slid back into bed with their omega. He held both of them tightly before drifting back to sleep.
Excited about the days to come.
Epilogue
“Pass the pineapple, please,” Lane said, gazing down the spread. Christmas Eve dinner had always been a big deal at his house, and this year was no exception.
His papa handed it over with a smile. “Need seconds, do you?”
“I forgot how good baked pineapple was on ham,” he answered, loving how strong his papa looked.
A new shock of white hair had grown on his head to accompany the added weight, appetite, and strength. His papa still had a ways to go, but the treatments were miraculous, at best. He saw the man he’d always known returning to them and had hopes for the future.
“My grandmother always served that,” his papa said. “Every single holiday. It’s not a holiday meal without it.”
Lane plopped a big spoonful onto his plate before adding some to Turi’s plate. “You’ve got to try this with your ham.”
Turi took a tentative bite, his expression not looking excited. But he smiled. “That is good.”
“Of course he likes it,” Papa said. “He has good taste. He loves my son, doesn’t he?”
Turi smiled, looking down.
Lane grinned and met Kai’s stare on Turi’s other side.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am to have all three of you here,” Lane’s dad said. “This house needs this. Family. Laughter. Life.”
“Where are you going tomorrow?” Terrance asked.
“We’re spending the night tonight with Royce’s family so we can see the kids open their presents in the morning. And then Declan’s family is coming over, along with LJ and Chase, and we’re having a big Christmas brunch,” Lane said.
“Sounds exhausting,” Terrance said.
“It’s one day a year… and we’ve missed a lot of Christmases,” Kai said. “Which we shouldn’t have. I have a lot to make up for.”
The table grew quiet for a moment before Terrance spoke up.
“I’ve been rough on you since you guys returned. I was unfair.”
“You’ve been rough on me since I met you,” Kai said.
Terrance chuckled. “Maybe I have… but you took my son from me.” Terrance lifted a hand to stop Kai from arguing. “From the moment you two were bonded, there was a spark of something special. He thought the sun rose and set on you—and he still does. He wanted to be everywhere you were. He spent more time with your family than ours most of the time—and it hurt to lose so much time with him. Our only child.”
“Father… that’s not all his fault. I shoulder some of that.”
“But he’s right. And I never realized,” Kai said staring at Lane. He turned back to Lane’s father. “I didn’t mean for that to happen. I guess I didn’t think.”
“You were a child. Of course you didn’t think. I can’t blame you for that.”
“I love him just as much, you know. I couldn’t bear to think of being apart from him, still can’t.”
Lane warmed at that and smiled.
“Neither of my males,” Kai said, turning to smile at them both.
“I know you love him,” Terrance said. “It’s the one thing that kept me sane all these years. I knew he was safe with you. Always would be.”
“Always,” Kai parroted, looking back at Turi and Lane.
The rest of dinner was fairly uneventful… until Turi leapt from the table and went running through the house.
Lane jumped up after him and followed Turi to the bathroom. He found their omega on his knees before the toilet, vomiting. Kai nearly knocked him over as he came to a stop at the doorway. Lane grabbed a clean washcloth and rinsed it before turning to Turi. He caught Kai’s gaze a moment before kneeling to brush some of the hair away from Turi’s brow.
When Turi sat back, Lane helped wash his face off.
“You okay?”
Turi nodded, catching his breath.
“I think we all know what this means,” Turi murmured.
Lane held his smile in, not sure how Turi felt about the news.
“And it’s going to ruin the presents I got for you now.” He sighed. “Surprise!”
“You knew?” Kai asked.
Turi nodded. “Yeah. The docs figured it out because of all the bloodwork they’re always doing. They had to adjust the serum, yada yada.”
No one spoke for a moment.
“How do you feel about this?” Lane asked hesitantly.
“Worried I might run?” Turi asked, smiling.
“Maybe just a little,” Kai answered.
Turi smiled, a brilliant one. “You’re never getting rid of me now.”
“Good!” Lane said before rising. He offered a hand to help Turi up. Once their omega was on his feet, Lane dragged him into a tight hug. Kai dragged them both into a hug.
They stood there for long moments, just holding on tight.
Lane drew back a little and saw the smile still on Turi’s face.
“You’re really okay?”
“This child was made with love,” Turi whispered.
Kai ran a hand through Turi’s hair. “Yes… it was.”
“We’d better get back out there,” Lane said. “I’m sure they’re worried.”
Turi took a deep breath before they exited the bathroom—to find all three of Lane’s fathers standing near with excited looks on their faces.
“Merry Christmas!” Turi cried.
“Yesss!” Lane’s dad said, giving the air a fist pump.
His papa raced over and took Turi into his arms while Father gave both him and Kai handshakes and smiles.
“That’s a pretty good way of making up for lost time,” Father whispered to Kai. “We better see a whole lot of that cub.”
“I promise,” Kai said with a wide grin.
Lane’s dad came over to hug them both before they ended back up around the table, listening to old stories and making new memories to last them a lifetime.
* * * *
LJ stood at the picture window of the old cabin, looking out over the valley. The fire to his side was warm, but Chase added another log to the fire anyway. The crackling of the embers filled the room before the light grew.
“You cold?” LJ asked his brother bear.
“No,” Chase said, frowning. “But I just have this… feeling. Something’s off.”
> LJ frowned. “Off?”
A knock came at the door.
LJ walked over and opened it, a blast of cold air blowing through. A man stood at the opening. He pulled down his hood, snow flurries cascading down. He had a gash to his forehead and looked a little stunned.
“I’m sorry—there was no one down at the office. This was the first place I saw a light on. I had an accident down on the road.” He wobbled a little on his feet and leaned forward. LJ caught him.
“I don’t feel well,” he murmured before he passed out.
LJ lifted the man into his arms and kicked the door closed, before turning to Chase.
“Off, hmm?”
