  Epilogue

This incredible Journey began with Uncle Henry winning a Nobel peace prize, I in turn was awarded the Medal of Honor by the president at a private function attended by, apart from top government and military officials, Eel, Uncle Henry and me. The function, I was later told by Uncle Henry as we flew back to Washington in a military chopper, had been held at Camp David, a presidential retreat or lodge in the middle of a forest. My name it seems would forever be remembered in secret government files.

'Danny, you need to go back to school.' Uncle Henry broke the silence amidst the wincing helicopter blades in the cold night skies. 'I will have you enrolled in the University of Washington and have you tutored by Doctor Diana Lynn, a good friend of mine whom you two claim to have met before although I still insist you have her confused for someone else.'

'Eel, talk to him,' Uncle Henry continued,' you are his grandfather after all.'

'Danny, you need to go back to school.' Eel said looking bemused.

'I agree.' I said finally as the helicopter swung towards the University compound. In case you are wondering, Don Zsalohah and his golden army did receive their gold but that's a matter of top secrecy.

Later that night, Eel took me for a stroll outside in the cold, along the Nordheim court housing complex inside which we had pitched camp. It was Uncle Henry's idea of luxurious yet functional apartments, and most important of all, a walkable distance to the University.

'There is someone we need to pay a visit back in nineteen ninety four.' Eel said placing both his hands inside his corduroy front pockets. 'Come see.'

The atmosphere looked rather sereneas we weaved slowly through eager thick haired student crowds, crisscrossing lit up walkways, past a few cafes with blaring rock and roll music before finally taking a left turn into some quiet residential area.

  'Richard.'

  'Doug!'

'Is it really you? Douglas Snow?'

  'Yes it is.'

'You haven’t changed an ounce, how did you find me? Did Maggie let you in?'

I thought we lost you back in forty four. Forgive me Doug, I shouldn’t have let you near that creature.'

'I know, but am here and alive old pal.'

'How long has it been Doug? I can't remember.'

'Fifty years Richard, but who's counting?'

'Who's he?' the old man's shaky fingers pointed towards me. Uneven watery eyes roved behind thick lenses.

  'That’s Daniel Snow.'

  'You have a son?'

  'He's my grandson actually.'

'Am old Doug, but you, you look the same. Maybe am dreaming again.

'No, you're not dreaming, it's really me.'

'What happened in that God forsaken place Doug? Whatever happened to that thing?'

'Richard old friend, that thing sent me here, to you.' Eel answered calmly.

  'How is that possible Doug?'

'Yeah. He sends his regards.' Eel said transforming right before the old man's petrified old frame.

Suddenly, a clamor for breath engulfed the terrified old man before a lingering gaze into oblivion followed giving way to a sudden, violent clasping of teeth, arms and feet rigidly stretched out and then, a peaceful surrender.

'Who was he?' I asked petrified too as we hurried back onto the street.

'He was the man who convinced me to enlist in the secret program back then.' Eel said calmly. 'After the presumed failure of the experiment, the same man decided to join politics, marry and run for office.'

'Which office?' I asked panting trying to catch up with Eel's long strides.

He stopped suddenly, turned and looked me straight in the eyes. I could see a sense of satisfaction in his narrow brown eyes. He opened his mouth to speak.

'He was the thirty seventh president of the United States of America.'
