Ellen DeGeneres did an interview on how much she loves Transcendental Meditation, and how it has improved her life in so many ways. She had been practicing for about a year at that time, and she said that she had tried meditation before, but something about the breathing and the stillness, she found herself opening her eyes, and only minutes have passed. However, when she started Transcendental Meditation, she noticed that she would be disappointed when the 20 minutes was up. She gets such a peaceful feeling and loves it so much. She supports the David Lynch Foundation whose director Bob Roth has been bringing Transcendental Meditation to inner-city communities.

Maharishi, the Father of Transcendental Meditation, Talks about His Beliefs around Transcendental Meditation.

Maharishi finds that, as a society, we need to use more of our minds. He truly believes that through Transcendental Meditation, we can utilize more of our minds, and add more creativity to our lives. He says that, through Transcendental Meditation, we can experience what he calls "an ocean of knowledge, intelligence, and energy." But that isn’t all. He also says we can experience pure bliss through Transcendental Meditation.

Why Hugh Jackman Does Transcendental Meditation

Jackman says that nothing ever helped him open his eyes like meditation. Growing up, he suffered with anxiety a lot. He had a lot of deep-rooted fears and hated heights. He spent his childhood, afraid of the dark and of what others thought. With Transcendental Meditation, he has been able to push his worry away. He noticed his anxiety levels decrease, and he says the greatest thing about meditation is that twice a day, the monkey brain just stops. He believes that meditation helps you see clearly what is going on inside, not only in your body but also your mind. He still gets stressed out and has anxiety, but he has now learned to cope with it through Transcendental Meditation.

Sharon Isbin, Classical Guitarist, Discusses Her Use of Transcendental Meditation.

Sharon states that over the years, if it weren’t for her regular practice with Transcendental Meditation, she would not be able to perform with such high standards. During her meditative sessions, she has been inspired, reduces her stress, and finds creative space. She credits Transcendental Meditation to her ability to complete projects on time. She has found that her creative juices flow more freely and that it's like, “I’ll be playing, and suddenly, there is a twist of a phrase, and you just feel a melting sense of beauty.”

Howard Stern Prides himself on Using Transcendental Meditation for Creative Shows.

Of all the things we know about Howard Stern, and at this point, we know plenty, one thing we never really considered was that he has been practicing Transcendental Meditation since he was a teen. On many of his radio shows, he talks about very risque subject matter. However, a select few have had interviews with him about his Transcendental Meditation practice. Stern believes that Transcendental Meditation has played a major role in helping his mom who suffered with depression. With his continued practice of Transcendental Meditation, he has found more creative ideas for his radio show. He says, “Everybody in my life meditates.”

How Megan Fairchild, a New York City Ballet Dancer, Uses Transcendental Meditation to Improve her Life.

Megan Fairchild started winning competitions for ballet, and when her career was at its top, she had a serious health issue arise. What was causing her to faint while on stage, she may never know. The doctors prescribed medications that didn’t fully work, and it made her a liability to the ballet. She was facing losing her dancing career. Then one day, a friend suggested she try Transcendental Meditation, and sure enough, it helped calm the fainting. But that isn’t all. Through her continued practice of Transcendental Meditation, she has gained the courage to take risks in her career such as auditioning for a lead role on Broadway. She went on to perform in that Broadway show as a lead role, and the show went on to be a box office hit. She is reaching new limits and expanding her super mind to be a better version of herself through Transcendental Meditation.

Sheryl Crow’s Talk about How Transcendental Meditation Changed Her Life.

Grammy-winning Sheryl Crow has been supporting a movement to bring Transcendental Meditation to inner-city schools to help the children. She believes that peace begins within all of us, and without Transcendental Meditation, those inner-city kids would suffer from drug addiction, violence, and gang activity. It gives them a positive resource to use to de-stress. That is why she supports the David Lynch Foundation and all the amazing work they are doing with schools. “One of the things – and this comes from someone who was highly self-critical, and a type-A personality – that has changed my life is meditating,” said Sheryl Crow.

Not only have celebrities seen amazing benefits from Transcendental Meditation, but so have many government agencies. For instance, consider the 2015 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. We all know that the Olympics is a high-stress time for not only the Olympians but also for the staff and government agencies protecting this great world event. So what does the Rio de Janeiro police chief do? He hires David Lynch to provide Transcendental Meditation to officers. Here is their story.

The Rio de Janeiro Police Officers Utilized Transcendental Meditation for the Stress Related to the Olympics.

In 2015, Rio de Janeiro held the Olympics, and to gear up the police of Rio de Janeiro, they introduced Transcendental Meditation to the force. A group of 400 officers participated, and the chief of Police explained why by saying, “A policeman that is less stressed will have better capacity to make decisions, and will fire less during an operation.” He plans on utilizing Transcendental Meditation for the whole police station if the resulting benefit is effective with the 400 participants. The best part is that the David Lynch Foundation supported and sponsored the movement. The objective is to have more calm, less reactive officers in an event of high stress such as the Olympics. David Lynch states that he aims to “prevent and eradicate trauma epidemic and toxic stress among populations at risk.” Transcendental Meditation has changed so many people’s lives. By changing one person’s life, a cycle of changing the world begins. The practice of Transcendental Meditation has a way of changing your perspective about life and the world.

Chapter 6: Techniques to Incorporate Transcendental Meditation Into Your Life

“Transcendental Meditation is like a car, a vehicle that allows you to go within. It’s a mental technique.” David Lynch

With all of these amazing success stories, it's no wonder the world is taking an active role in learning more about Transcendental Meditation. So what can we do to be more active in this movement? First off, we can donate to those charities that are bringing Transcendental Meditation to inner-city youth and veterans. For instance, the David Lynch Foundation is always taking donations and asking for support.

Secondly, we can learn Transcendental Meditation for ourselves. So how do you start the practice of Transcendental Meditation and get the full benefits of it? In general, there is a 7-step program through a Transcendental Meditation training school that not only teaches you how to practice Transcendental Meditation but also will certify you to teach it to others. It starts with a 60-minute lecture on the general history and information about the technique and proper procedures for achieving the full benefit. Then you will go to a 45-minute class on a more specific training session.

Once you have completed both of these, there is then a 10-15 minute interview process and a 1-to-2 hours private, personal instruction. This is when you will take place in a brief ceremony to celebrate the accomplishment, and then you are given your personalized mantra, which you must keep to yourself. But th
at isn’t all. The next 3 days, you will be checked in on to ensure you are doing the proper technique for Transcendental Meditation, and you will get private instruction of 1-2 more hours.

The 1-to-2 hours of extra instruction will explain the practice in greater detail. It gives you corrections if needed. It also provides information about the benefits of regular practice. Best the best advantage to taking the training course is that you get several months of instructional one-on-ones with the teacher to ensure that you are practicing correct procedure.

Do you need a training course to practice Transcendental Meditation? It is not a requirement to have training for an at-home practice, however, if you plan on teaching others, then yes, you need to be certified. “Transcendental Meditation is always taught one-on-one, at least initially, by a teacher who is a longtime meditator.” Rosenthal continued with telling us a little more about the training program, and what we can expect by stating, “They are trained not only to instruct new students and provide follow-up, but also to customize the approach for each student.” As Rosenthal explained, “Initial instruction has seven steps, two lectures, and a personal interview with a certified teacher.” At the end of these sessions, you continue on with, “four teaching sessions on four consecutive days. Each session lasts about ninety minutes.”

“Ideally, the fledgling meditator then follows up with the teacher perhaps weekly for the first month and monthly thereafter.” Rosenthal said, “These thirty-minute “checking” sessions give students a chance to ask questions and make sure their technique is still on track.” This is so that the practitioner can derive the maximum benefits of the program and the technique.

So how can you incorporate Transcendental Meditation into your life? It’s pretty easy when you think about it. You can start with a training program, which is your best route, if you can afford one or have one in your area. There are many training programs all over the world from Los Angeles to London. So do a search for the one closest to you, and talk with a specialist about your options. Sometimes, programs consist of a weekend conference or even a month or two-month-long class. The programs that are available are dependent on what you can do. If that is not an option, then you can try some of the methods listed above, and watch a few videos on YouTube to have a visual guide. There are also several online courses that can be purchased. A general search online should bring up more options for you in your area. Usually, you can find a Transcendental Meditation teacher in a yoga study or ashram.

Although Transcendental Meditation is an easy process to learn, it is best to find a training facility. This will ensure you are getting the best training that is available. There are several Transcendental Meditation facilities around the United States and Europe. If you are in a rural area or an inner-city area, check into the David Lynch Foundation. This is a non-profit organization that supports bringing Transcendental Meditation to those that could really use it, and do not have access.

They have programs for many different types of situations. They support our veterans and their families and have started bringing the Transcendental Meditation technique to public schools, private schools, and universities. David Lynch is dedicated to bringing Transcendental Meditation to everyone, so if you are in an area where there are no teaching facilities, maybe contact them about setting one up in your area, or holding a conference in your area to gauge interest. Many times, entrepreneurs, who are doing non-profit work, are more willing to collaborate and bring their services to a new area.

If you choose to go with a private instructor, make sure they are fully licensed and insured. There are several ways to check on this. For instance, they will have a certificate showing their qualifications, a business license, and information about their training located on their business wall. Don’t just take someone at their word. Many people use popular activities to lure unsuspecting people into paying for services they can not or will not fulfill.

By checking with certification companies online, you should be able to look at a list of practitioners in the area. This guarantees that you will get the fullest benefit from the training. Although meditation instructors are not required to have any special licensing or training, Transcendental Meditation teachers are required to be certified to teach so always check the credentials. Just because someone says they are licensed doesn’t always mean they are. Also, check their reviews, and ensure they have positive feedback.

As with any new practice, consult your doctors about the safety or any concerns you may have. Transcendental Meditation is rated safe for everyone. However, you want to be sure you are doing it properly to ensure its effectiveness. And remember to have fun, and enjoy the process. The reprogramming that you get from doing Transcendental Meditation will take you out of your anxious, chaotic life, and place you in a safe, happy bubble that will increase your creative juices, raise your energy levels, and balance your lifestyle.
