Rosa: A Needful Bride (Brides 0f Needful, Texas Book 6)

by Danni Roan

Rosa plated bacon and eggs placing it on the table before him and grabbing one for her and Christina as well. She loved the morning routine and the quiet time with her family before the day began.

Soon she would be helping Cookie prepare breakfast for the rest of the hands. On days when she missed the Hamptons or wanted to go to town the old camp cook was more than able to manage, and it made it even more fun when she insisted that he had done it all wrong. In truth, Rosa adored the old man and the freedom he afforded her as the wife of the rancher and Mayor of Needful

Dan reached out taking her hand in one of his and touching Christina’s with the other as he bowed his head.

“Dear Lord,” his voice carried strong and confident through the kitchen. “Thank you for this new day and a chance to do the work you’ve set before us. Thank you for this food and the bounty of your provision. And thank you for the love you’ve given me in this family I never expected to have. I am humbled by the gifts you have given and will try to always remember to be thankful.” He looked up catching Rosa’s dark eyes studying him and smiled. “Amen,” he finished but didn’t let go of her hand.

“I am very thankful for you as well,” Rosa said a bright tear trickling down her cheek. “I did not know that I could find happiness again.”

Dan lifted her hand kissing it softly as his heart filled with love, joy, and hope. “I love you darlin’,” he said. “I don’t know what I ever did to deserve this life, but I’m mighty thankful for it.”

“I love you too,” Rosa said her smile mingled with joy, hope and sorrow melting his heart. She had seen many sorrows in her life, but if you were willing to take the chance, a new start could be right before your eyes if you could be brave enough to look.

“Are you two done making googley eyes at each other or should I go back outside,” Cookie said stomping into the kitchen and casting a critical eye over the stove.

Dan leaned over kissing Rosa with a big smacking kiss and making the old man groan.

“It ain’t decent two folks being so happy,” the old man said, slicing bacon and starting on the bigger breakfast for the ranch hands. “I think I liked you better when you was just pining for the girl. You was more interesting.”

“Cookie!” Christina gurgled banging a spoon on the top of her highchair tray. “Cookie!”

The old man turned, his gappy smile widening as his eyes filled with love. “No, you’re a sensible one,” he growled reaching into the warming tray and taking down a sugar cookie before handing it to the little girl.

“Why you sneak,” Rosa said releasing Dan’s hand and moving to the stove. “No wonder she calls you every time you step in to the kitchen.”

The old man slapped his knee laughing as Rosa glared at him.

Dan grinned finishing his breakfast with a full heart. Home was so much more than the word had ever meant before, and he couldn’t wait to see what came next.
