Mint to Be Loved

Page 15

by Elias Raven

“After we open the last envelope,” I said playfully.

My father handed me the last one and I tore it open with reckless abandon sliding the key out of the soft cloth covering and handed the envelope to Nick for him to read.

The final clue is in hand...

  Will you know the answer?

  before you turn the key?

  What you seek stands

  at the threshold...

  Remember always to go

  with your intuition.

  Love will guide the way…

  Regards,

  (The Mint Leaf Signature)

“Silence is the perfectest herald of joy. I were but little happy if I could say how much.—Lady, as you are mine, I am yours. I give away myself for you and dote upon the exchange.”

  (Act II, scene i)

  ~Shakespeare~

I wrapped my arms around Nick and kissed him deeply. Then as we started breaking the kiss, because I was getting harrumphed by the gathered parents and friends, I pulled the key out and handed it to my man.

“Let’s do this together,” I said.

My dad came over to the dining room table and set the mystery box down which had both keys still inserted. There was only the final lock (yeah it had a wedding cake kind of feeling to it).

Then taking the final key we inserted it on the left side of the box and turned it.

There was a loud click, then a small tremor from the box. Everyone watched as a small seam opened along the top of the box and then the lid split in half and opened to the sides revealing the contents therein.

“Just a second, I have to catch my breath. This thing is badass! Where on earth did you get this?” I asked Richard.

The old man just smiled and touched the side of his head then did the zipper motion over his lips.

“You better watch it! I might be your daughter in law someday!” I replied teasingly.

At that, I got a playful smile in return

Nick motioned for me to look inside. I pulled back the antique cloth coverings and found a ticket to Frankie’s dinner show (the night I dumped the champagne on him) and a small jewelry box. I looked at Nick and everyone and closed my eyes (because he hadn’t even asked me to be his girlfriend yet and it was way too soon to get married) and then opened the lid.

Inside was a beautiful sterling silver locket. Antique, probably from the turn of the century. I carefully opened the locket and peered inside. Inside on the left side was an aged black and white picture of a beautiful woman dressed as an adventurer, then I realized it was me! Whoever had photoshopped the picture had done a marvelous job! On the right etched in the silver was the following epitaph:

  “What a woman! Bravo!

  Love,

  Nick

Everyone burst into applause! I had solved my first mystery and gotten what I had always dreamed of. That man that I could come home to every night. I had a feeling that this was only the start of our adventures together. Tonight was only our beginning. How many people can say that they have a family that loves them so much that they help you find what you’ve longed for your entire life? Not many... I must have been Mint To Be Loved…

  ~The End~

  Epilogue

I wasn’t in a hurry for sex (ok that’s not true. I wanted to rip his clothes off and pretend he was the mechanical bull in Urban Cowboy). It was more like I didn’t want to rush things. After the big reveal, I had a long talk with Nick privately. I understood why he did everything and I was truly flattered and yes I was head over heels in love with the man for all of the efforts he had put into the mystery (along with the assorted Motley Crue he had gathered to pull it off). I still couldn’t get his father to tell me where he had found The Mystery Box, but time was on my side and he would let it out at some point (If I had to pull his toenails off one by one) okay; I’m not a sadist or anything. Sometimes I have Dr. No moments, but in general, the whole pain and pleasure ship hasn’t docked in my harbor (yet).

We had been steadily dating since the big reveal and one thing had led to the other. I wasn’t necessarily one of those girls that needed a ring on her finger to have sex (but then again, a diamond the size of a small meteorite did have a certain glamour to it). We had done everything but (the naughty) and finally, the moment was at hand. Nick’s father must have given him some pointers because most guys don’t have the cellular power (brains) to engage a woman on so many levels. Not just the garden of desire, but the heart and mind as well. I mean this man spoke to my heart and soul in so many ways and there was no BS about it. He opened booked me and we’ve kept it real.

We spent the evening dining on a harbor cruise with a full buffet and dancing on the deck. The moon was full and the other couples just seemed to blur into the background. There was only me and Nick on that ship and it was beautiful. The way he slow danced with me and his hands playfully explored, but nothing too inappropriate (that would come later on). The boat finally docked near midnight and we jumped into Skyfall and started the engine.

“Let’s go to your place tonight…” I whispered.

“Sounds good to me,” he replied and leaned over and kissed me deeply, his hands exploring and dialing up my heat.

  “Yes... lets…” I groaned.

Nick smiled and grabbed my knee. I grabbed my cell and sent a text to my mom.

“Don’t wait up for me; I had a lovely evening with Nick. I’ll see you in the morning.” then I hit send.

Then reaching over I returned the favor. He made short work of the drive home. We pulled into his riverfront house and as soon as the garage closed, let’s just say the windows were steaming quickly.

We hopped out of the car and Nick took my hand leading me gently toward his bedroom.

I was ready to go all cavegirl on him and throw him over my shoulders and run to his room. I was red hot and the clothes were an absolute luxury at this point.

He picked me up and carried me into his room; gently laying me on the bed (he was smooth).

Everything I wanted from a lover happened that night. The tenderness, the strength, the passion. All walls fell to the wayside and he let me go deep inside of his soul to see him for the man he truly was and I reciprocated. I think we both started to tear up when we finally hit that moment where the spirit leaves the body and you're screaming so loud that the neighbors are beating on the walls. We didn’t care. We were consumed in reckless abandon. Lust had enveloped us completely and when she was finally sated, we laid next to each other completely exhausted. Spooning skin on skin we held on for dear life waiting for our heartbeats to return to normal watching the moonlight shining brightly through the blinds…
