“My guard says he recognizes you. He says you’re a petty thief, and he was in jail with you. He claims you made a deal with the cops. What do you have to say about that?” the thug asks.

I snort in disgust, as if I think he’s insane. Then, I say, “What kind of idiot is your man? Do I look like a petty thief? Do petty thieves blow out the brains of another boss’s best man? Unless he wants to die, I suggest he apologizes, and gets his sorry ass out of my sight.”

“It’s him boss. I know it is. I saw him with my own eyes. I heard him make the deal. It was in the city jail. You know, the big one where I was locked up for stealing that Ferrari,” the guard explains.

“I can honestly say, it wasn’t me. Check the records, fool. I’ve never been in that jail,” I say, pleased that it’s the truth.

“I say it is!” he shouts.

“Fight. I say whoever survives is telling the truth,” the thug suggests.

“By all means. Let’s go outside. I don’t want to ruin the rugs. They’re worth a fortune,” Harrison says, going along with the suggestion too easily.

I know he’s suspecting that the man is telling the truth, but in this case he’s not. I’ll have to kill him, and I still won’t be in the clear. I’ll have to use that backup plan.

We’re forced to give up our guns, and are given knives. The skinny guy dances around me, while I remain still. I wait patiently for him to make a move to cut me. I have all the time in the world, and the skill to cut him down without breaking a sweat.

He jabs at me, and I block it. I leave a streak of blood on his wrist where my knife nicks him. He howls, and I laugh.

He tries again, and I cut across his chest. It’s a shallow wound, yet he cries like a baby, and asks for mercy. I bow, ready to let him go, but Harrison orders, “Finish him, Adam. This is boring. I want his guts on the ground for this nonsense.”

Reluctantly, since all my anger is spent, I turn back to the fight. The man lamely tries to cut my throat, but I swivel, and sink my knife into his belly. It rips open, and the fight ends though it’s barely begun.

Ignoring the mess, and the thug’s roar of anger, Harrison then asks, “Was it you in that jail? Did you make a deal with the cops?”

My answer is one Agent Franklin had me practice. It’s easy to reply, because most of it is true. I have never been in that particular jail, and my deal is with the CIA, not the cops.

“No, Harrison. I was never in that jail, though I hear it’s filthy, and full of vermin. I have not ever made a deal with the cops. I hate them. I do, however, think I know who the man is that that fool thought was me. I’ve often been told that there is a petty thief who looks like me. I wonder if I have a long lost twin, because I hear it so much. Last I heard, he was up on charges for murder, and he made a deal. He’s working undercover to erase the charges. He’s with a group on the eastside. Do you know whose territory that is? Warn him, and you’ll gain his trust as an ally.”

“I do know whose group that is, and he did hire a new man. It turns out he is blonde, and tattooed. I’ve seen him around. Good job, Adam. I’d say you’ve earned more of my respect, and trust today. You’re going to be a valuable asset.”

I nod, and look at Kelsey. I’m scared she’ll be ready to turn her back on me. But, all I see is relief that I have covered for us, and we’re safe for now.

  Chapter Seven

  Kelsey

“I’ll be damned, but you’re actually pretty good,” I tell Adam through the window. He, once again, was ordered to accompany me to the greenhouse. He stands with his back to me, but I can see clearly his barely there nod. “We have to be careful. One more person accusing you or me and we’re dead meat.”

Another barely there nod. I smile, somehow I feel lighter knowing that Adam will do everything that is necessary to keep both our covers intact.

“Thank you for saving our cover.” I smile at the back of his head and see him slightly look over his shoulder to smile back at me. I can see a glimpse of his dimples, and that view hits me deep in my lower belly.

I fill in Agent Franklin on the very little information I’ve gathered in the past 2 days. He was more than pleased to hear that Harrison likes Adam and is slowly pulling him deeper into his close circle.

An hour after that I have to make my return to the expensive house I’ve come to loathe. The whole walk back I can feel the warmth radiating from Adam. The tension between us is becoming slowly unbearable, and it’s making me lose my mind. I want this mission to be over already so that I can do whatever I want again. In this instance, jumping on Adam and having my wicked way with him.

Once I’m back in the house, my feet are carrying me to Harrison’s bedroom. I am forced to endure his sweaty, disgusting hands all over my body and his grunts filling my ears. The worst part of all of this is my having to pretend I like it when in reality these are the moments I don’t give a crap about dying.

Soon, but not nearly soon enough, it’s over, and Harrison leaves me alone in the room. I curl up in a ball and cry myself to sleep.

“Kelsey,” I am woken up by a whisper. When I open my heavy eyes, I am locked in a green gaze.

“What the fuck are you doing here? Are you trying to get us killed?” I whisper-shout at Adam who’s sitting next to me on the bed, one hand resting on my hip. I feel the fire spreading from that spot to my entire being.

“Harrison went away for a few days. When he came back downstairs, he got a call. Apparently two of his coke factories are lit on fire and he went to deal with that.” Adam’s eyes are filled with danger and sexual promise. My breath hitches and his eyes widen.

“When’s he coming back?” I whisper, barely audible.

“Not for a few hours at least.” He leans down, and his lips crash on top of mine.

I know I should stop him. This is too dangerous. But I also know that I can’t. I move over so that he can join me on the bed. He has an advantage, I already am naked. I didn’t even bother to dress after Harrison left. I pull at his shirt to signal him to take it off. And he does. With one movement he then takes off his pants and his boxers.

I kiss him with all my might. My hands travel to his hair, pulling on it. He moans in answer, moving south. He trails kisses down my neck. I shiver at the feel of his tongue against my skin. His head moves even lower, one hand caressing my right breast, two of his fingers pinching my nipple. His lips sucking on my other nipple. I arch my back, giving him better access.

“Adam,” I moan, completely out of breath.

He sucks even harder on my sensitive nipple. I dig my nails into his back. He hisses and returns his head to my eye level.

He hovers over me, on his knees. He grabs the ankle of one of my feet, drawing it up to his shoulder. I don’t even have enough time to take a breath before he slams into me.

“Oh my god, Adam,” I moan as he grunts.

“Kelsey, fuck,” he groans, and I can see the veins straining in his neck.

He pounds me into oblivion with ruthless force and speed. At the feel of his fingers over my clit I am sent over the edge where he soon follows. He puts my leg back down and leans into me as he is trying to catch his breath.

“Did I hurt you?” he asks me as he withdraws from me. I shake my head no, I’m unable to say anything else.

On the next day I am welcomed by a silence in the entire house. I walk down the stairs to the kitchen to grab something for breakfast. As soon as I approach the sink, my phone rings, signaling a new text message. It’s from Harrison.

Kelsey, I had to go sort some mess the fuckers in my factories made. I’ll be gone for a short while, so I advise you not to do anything you’ll regret. You know I always find out. You can spend your time with your little hobby so that you won’t be busy when I come back.

I smile cheekily at my phone screen. This is the best news since forever. A few days without Harrison is going to be like the fresh air I’m gasping for. And, hopefully, I’ll have a chance to be with Adam again. Memories
of last night play in my mind, and I blush.

“Anything funny?” I shoot my head up to see Adam, standing against the doorframe.

“Harrison is going to be away for a few days.” I can’t help but smirk at him with an unmasked joy.

“I know.” He gives me a wicked grin that immediately makes me wet.

He steps towards me, lifting me onto the sideboard. I put my legs around his waist and kiss his neck. I lick the thick vein on his neck that’s leading up to his ear, and he moans.

He lifts my nightgown up to my waist and pushes himself into me. He keeps his face hidden in my hair as he chases bliss with me. I vaguely acknowledge the fact that this is insanely dangerous, but as long as I have him in me, I don’t care.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and within minutes I shatter. I take Adam’s ear between my teeth and gently tug. I smile as I feel him coming. We stay there for a while, panting.

“I wish we could just run away,” Adam confesses as I hide my face in the crook of his neck.

“I know,” I whisper and hug him closer.

  Chapter Eight

  Adam

I walk through the halls in this filthy house. These last two months have been both the best and the worst in my entire life. I’ve been sneaking around with Kelsey every chance we get, every time Harrison was out dealing with his shit.

I walk into the dim lighted room where Harrison wants me for some reason. I expect to find some idiot who lost his product or his money. That is why I freeze at the sight of Kelsey being tied to a cold metal chair. It takes me a second to come back to my role I’m supposed to be playing here.

I fake carelessness as I walk in and come to a stop next to Harrison.

“What’s up?” I ask calmly even though I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my rib cage any second.

“This little cunt is a fucking government plant!” Harrison spits out.

My blood turns to a molten lava in my veins and I look to Kelsey.

“Really?” I ask, pretending that I am pissed off because of her being a cop, which is not even correct, I might add. The truth is that I am pissed off because Kelsey’s life is in danger.

I look around the room. There are two bodyguards in the room with me, Harrison and Kelsey and another two at the door in the hall. We have no chance to fight us out. I have no choice but to act like I couldn’t care less about this whole predicament we’re in.

“Do you know anything about this, Adam?” Harrison eyes me with suspicion.

I throw my head back with a laugh. “As if. If I did, she wouldn’t be here anymore.” Because she would be somewhere far away from here, with me.

“Okay, let’s deal with this, then.” Harrison cracks his knuckles. He steps toward Kelsey and slaps her. It takes everything in me not to flinch or jump toward him to kill him.

I look at Kelsey, but she is staring at the floor. I know she does this so she doesn’t take me down with her. But I don’t care. I want her to look at me so that I can try to reassure her that we’ll be okay, both of us.

“I actually knew about her being undercover for weeks, I just enjoyed toying with her and making her suffer without really telling her what each slap was for. It was nice to have a toy close by whenever I got bored with my business or my other sluts,” he tells me, and then he turns his attention back to Kelsey, “but you were pissing me off lately. You snooped around more than before. Funny thing is that you found only what I wanted you to find. You didn’t realize my true plan.” He laughs, and my stomach turns. I have a stone mask plastered on my face, careful not to give away anything.

I watch Harrison squat and get in Kelsey’s face. “But don’t worry, I’ll tell you. But you won’t have the chance to fill your boss in. I’m going to set off a bomb in DC.”

I look at Kelsey and see her eyes grow wide with shock. Harrison drags his fingers down Kelsey’s cheek. “It’s a shame really, such a beautiful face.”

My gaze meets Kelsey’s. She is so brave, her eyes don’t give away any fear. She quickly looks away from me.

Harrison pulls out a huge hunting knife, and I stand alert, ready to kill him at any moment. He puts the knife to Kelsey’s cheek. He runs the blade along her jaw, leaving a bloody, red trail. My hands are formed into fists, and I want to hit him, but I look at Kelsey and she is silently telling me with her eyes that I should stay put. I close my eyes for a brief moment before regaining composure.

Suddenly, I’m startled by Harrison straightening up and untying Kelsey from the chair, only to tie her hands together. He steps back a few feet and nods at the gorillas in the room. They step close and pull Kelsey to stand up.

“Come on, Adam, let’s watch the show.” He pats my shoulder, and I think about breaking that hand in 10 different ways before following him out.

  Chapter Nine

  Adam

  Fuck.

I watch helplessly as Kelsey's wrists are bound and she is pushed into the back of a car by two of Harrison's men. He leans down and tells her that he will meet her at an alternate location, one where they will be safe but will get to watch the north eastern Unites States burn.

Now I know I was put here for a reason. The CIA hid stuff form me, go fucking figure. But I am here to do what has to be done. This is not the typical mob boss trying to own a territory, this is a terrorist organization. I don’t know how this asshole has gotten away with this plan for so long, but this is serious business, and I am in over my head.

My only hope is to get an SOS out to our handler and then, hopefully, the military will swoop in and handle this.

The only trouble is, I don’t know if I will survive it all. Depending on this bomb, the blast will be massive. I don’t know if I will escape if this goes awry or if the military coming in guns blazing will cause the plan to go forward early and kill us all.

I act hard, unphased. It seems like my cover is yet to be blown. So, for Kelsey’s safety and possibly the entirety of DC and even our government, I need to be play it cool.

Harrison turns to me with a smirk as the car drives away. "Are you with me, Adam?” he asks, his hand slapping over my shoulder like I'm his best pal.

Harrison is good at what he does. Good at manipulating others, hiding information, being all around fucking bipolar.

I'm not fooled by this camaraderie. I know what he’s capable of, especially now.

"What do you need me to do?” I say meaningfully.

"I don’t know what it is about you, but I have known from the first day you came you would be useful to me.” I didn’t like that word - useful. "I don’t trust anyone else with this, or I wouldn’t put you in the line of fire. But the process is almost complete. I have a friend who has a property just outside of DC not too far from here. That's where we have planted the bomb. It only needs one component in order for the plan to go off with a bang.”

He laughs at himself, a deep, dark, maniacal sound that sends chills down my spine. No matter how much of a badass I have always seen myself as, I never saw myself going up against a man who could get a hold of soviet bombs to blow up the nation’s capital.

"What is it?” I ask, raising an eyebrow as if I am truly curious. In truth, I don’t give two shits what it is. It won’t be making it there, even though it risks my life.

  "Uranium.”

He proceeds to give me pieces of paper, things easily destroyed, with various instructions, names, and addresses on them. Then, an Uber is called for me to take me into downtown Baltimore, my first stop on this journey. For some reason, I am being trusted to do this part alone, but he says that too many men would make it suspicious.

I know this is also about me being new. People won’t know I work for Harrison. It won’t come back on him if I fuck up and get caught.

But as I climb in the Uber, I thank my lucky stars to be allowed to be alone. It’s the only way I'm going to get the message out to those I need to help me here.

Because we need to save the people of DC an
d Maryland or we're going to have the worst terrorist attack and national shut down this country has ever seen.

  ***

This is the craziest thing I have ever done in my entire life, and that includes killing a man.

Well now, I have killed three more men under the guise of working for Harrison. The only difference this time is I mostly killed them for the safety of this plan.

I am in a delivery truck, one I'm sure has a tracker on it because why would Harrison have me drive a delivery vehicle full of uranium and not protect such an asset?

So, the two men in the back, I did away with them, leaving their bodies to rot in the back with the uranium, stabilized and hidden in a large delivery box which is lined with led to help keep it from being detected.

My handler was amazing, even though I hated that I was put in this situation to begin with, I am grateful he was able to have the FBI on the line in just minutes with a plan.

All I had to do was stop at a fueling station, feigning that these incompetent assholes gave me a delivery truck sitting on empty.

  Check Done.

At the fuel station, things were switched out, planting a large box that resembles the other, loaded with something that looks like uranium but isn't. That is what I will be delivering. I have to complete the delivery in order to not be found out and not be killed, but I will also be doing it without the men I killed. I will cite their incompetency if asked.

The FBI is sure Harrison must have a backup plan that cannot be allowed to be activated.

It's not this part that scares me but the after. See, I have to kill every motherfucker involved, find the bomb so the military can extract it, and then save Kelsey and the entirety of the country by stopping a man that has been under the radar for more than two decades.

  Harrison.

When I reach the property I was told about, it's abandoned other than one man who looks like he has seen prisons a time or two.

Russian, I figure, covered in tats, and his teeth are covered in a lot of gold and silver caps.
